"Please Like Me" a new Australian comedy about a gay 20 yr old starts tonight

From its website:
And when Josh finds himself in bed with a very attractive man after being dumped by his girlfriend, it’s clear he has a few things to sort out.

All six episodes air tonight on Pivot, a new cable station formerly known as Halogen. Well-received by critics, it should be fun to watch.

It has a page at Wikipedia, but here's the link to its website.

by Anonymousreply 18203/06/2015

mm.. don't see listed on Halogen for today and search FiOS doesn't come up with a match.

by Anonymousreply 108/01/2013

He looks a lot older than 20.

I look 20. And I'm 55.

by Anonymousreply 208/01/2013

On my FiOS (New York) Pivot (Halogen) is channel 287.

by Anonymousreply 308/01/2013

Mine too, but this show isn't listed.

by Anonymousreply 408/01/2013

You can watch the first episode here:

by Anonymousreply 508/01/2013

I wanted to like it more than I did. It's like a less good Grandma's House.

And the casting of the ex-girlfriend and new boyfriend was ridiculous. Both are far too good looking for Thomas.

by Anonymousreply 608/01/2013

His stand-up DVD (Surprise) and that of his ex-boyfriend, fellow comedian Tom Ballard (Tom Ballard Is What He Is), are worth a look.

by Anonymousreply 708/01/2013

Saw it months ago. Incredibly good. Hot boyfriend, nudity. Fuck yes!!!

by Anonymousreply 808/01/2013

I'm glad all six half-hours are on tonight. One less thing to keep track of.

Article from NY Daily News:

Contrary to popular wisdom, says Evan Shapiro, the millennial generation would love to watch TV.

“The problem,” he says, “is that the TV industry doesn’t give them anything they want to see.”

He’s hoping to change that, starting today, with a new network called Pivot that’s aimed entirely at the generation that started coming of age around the turn of the century.

Shapiro is Pivot’s president.

Because one accurate stereotype of millennials is that they are tech-savvy, he says, Pivot invites potential viewers to get acquainted through www.pivot.tv and an app.

More traditionally, it is available on Dish TV, DirecTV and Verizon FiOS, among other places.

Viewers will see a mix of entertainment and talk programs.

[italic]The first scripted show is “Please Like Me,” a half-hour comedy by Australian writer/actor Josh Thomas. It’s a slice of his own life, filmed in a style not designed at all for the five-second attention span all millennials are said to possess.

In the first episode, Josh loses his girlfriend, discovers he might be gay and learns his mother has tried to commit suicide.

As he deals with all this, we see him walking slowly down corridors, or just sitting in silence.

“There was talk of making an ‘American’ version,” Thomas says. "But Pivot liked it just the way it was. It’s not a show where I tell jokes. The humor comes out of the situations, and they have to be real. So when we’re in the hospital, there’s a lot of sitting around. Hospitals are boring."[/italic]

The first episode is available on the Pivot website; the six-episode first season will air Thursday starting at 8 p.m.

Other new programs on Pivot will include “TakePart Live,” a daily talk show premiering Thursday at midnight with hosts Jacob Soboroff and Cara Santa Maria, both Huffington Post veterans.

On Sept. 14, Pivot will premiere the docu-series “Jersey Strong,” about Bloods and Crips in Newark, and the talk show “Raising McCain” with Sen. John McCain’s daughter Meghan.

The channel will feature original programming on Saturday nights and movies on Sunday. Those films are likely to include “An Inconvenient Truth,” “The Help,” “Contagion” and “Lincoln" — all made by Pivot’s parent company, Participant Media.

It will also run the series “Friday Night Lights,” starting Friday.

As this lineup suggests, Shapiro thinks millennials like to discuss social and political issues and get involvedin the world around them.

“People say this is a generation of navel-gazing narcissists,” he says. “Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a generation that’s past arguments about gender equality or same-sex marriage or race.

“It’s a generation that’s aware, involved and wants to make the world better. It’s the next greatest generation.”

by Anonymousreply 1008/01/2013

I´ll be watching.

by Anonymousreply 1108/01/2013

I watched the beginning and it looks pretty good. Season Pass on TiVo even if it is not available in HD. Looks like they are running five or six eps in a row tonight.

by Anonymousreply 1208/01/2013

All six episodes (that´s all they´ve made so far.)

by Anonymousreply 1308/01/2013

What is that thing on his lip?

by Anonymousreply 1408/01/2013

It took me til the 5th episode to realise his mother was Pippa on Home & Away.

by Anonymousreply 1508/01/2013

I liked it and I usually hate sitcoms. As Josh said--it doesn't set up jokes in the ham-handed way most American shows do then tell you to laugh with a laugh track.

I enjoyed the fantasy that when you meet a hot friend of a friend he just crawls into you bed and makes out with you.

The mother trying to kill herself by swallowing a bottle of Tylenol and drinking half a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream is pretty funny.

If only he would get rid of that thing on his lip.

by Anonymousreply 1608/01/2013

I didn't understand the friend's disbelief at drinking half a bottle of Bailey's. I could polish a bottle off like that.

by Anonymousreply 1708/01/2013

I went to Time Warner's website to check their channel lineup and Pivot is listed as 188, but when I tried to turn to it, it's not there.

Maybe I will try to watch this online.

by Anonymousreply 1808/01/2013

I´ve seen the first four episodes and the star/writer/creator seems to be an unlikable, major pain in the ass. (And I mean that in a negative way.)

by Anonymousreply 1908/06/2013

It was interesting enough. Josh clearly has a personality disorder, although I'm not sure exactly which one...

by Anonymousreply 2008/06/2013

r19

And whaaat?

by Anonymousreply 2108/06/2013

Two of Thomas' ex-boyfriends are also comedians and both are called Thom(as).

by Anonymousreply 2208/06/2013

it's really annoying based on the first two scenes.

by Anonymousreply 2308/06/2013

I watched all 6 episodes and I'm amazed that someone would use this series to launch a new network. Obviously I'm too old for it so maybe this has great appeal to the 20 somethings.

What's good is he at least acknowledges his flaws (like having an old looking face) up front and uses it in his comedy bit. The actor playing the boyfriend is very appealing. Too bad I kept thinking Josh was a bit of a jerk throughout the whole series.

by Anonymousreply 2408/09/2013
Too bad I kept thinking Josh was a bit of a jerk throughout the whole series.

I don't see that as a bad thing. He had nothing on the best friend's girlfriend.

I wish the boyfriend relaxed his cheeks when filming the bathroom scene.

by Anonymousreply 2508/09/2013

Josh Thomas is one of the most annoying people on earth.

That fake, nothing accent, ugh.

by Anonymousreply 2608/09/2013

Just finished the last episode. Josh grew on me but he's still generally insufferable.

by Anonymousreply 2709/02/2013

He's more insufferable in this Joan Rivers-focused interview than he was in the series. He comes off like an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 2809/02/2013

So there,R2,you`re the woman from the `Woman is 55 but she looks 20` ads!

by Anonymousreply 2909/02/2013

i'm way, way past Pivots demographics and loved the 6 episodes. Josh is a total ass, and i'd not want to be anywhere near him in real life, but really enjoyed the humor. the scene of him changing clothes behind the door had me laughing out loud.

by Anonymousreply 3009/02/2013

I couldn't help but compare it to Simon Amstell's "Grandma's House". They both conform to the "awkward asshole" category.

by Anonymousreply 3109/02/2013

Why did he break up with Geoffrey? Josh is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 3204/26/2014

I've just watched the first three episodes of the six-episode first season, and I'm going to watch the next three later this afternoon. I really like it so far. It's a great mix of comedy and drama--it made me think of Muriel's Wedding. (Are they both very Australian in tone?) My favorite scene so far was when Aunt Peg was asking Josh about the size of his testicles and telling him he was pear-shaped.

by Anonymousreply 3308/03/2014

I really liked it. Season 2 starts Friday.

by Anonymousreply 3408/03/2014

I finished watching episodes 4-6, and they were great as well. Unfortunately, the cable guide had mislabeled episodes 4 and 5, so I watched them out of order (and they really do need to be watched in order). Looking forward to season 2.

Wade Briggs is quite the hottie, n'est pas?

by Anonymousreply 3508/03/2014

I'm watching the third one and think it's awful. Josh is not appealing in any way whatsoever.

by Anonymousreply 3608/03/2014

What's up with six, half-hour episodes making an entire season? Who the hell can get hooked on that?

by Anonymousreply 3708/03/2014

Friday at 10:30pm, with plenty of rebroadcasts.

by Anonymousreply 3808/03/2014
What's up with six, half-hour episodes making an entire season? Who the hell can get hooked on that?

I know. How on earth did Absolutely Fabulous become an iconic sitcom? Or Fawlty Towers? Each of those series had 6 episode seasons, too.

by Anonymousreply 3908/03/2014

I thought this was awful. I mean, it sorta' got better around the third episode but the main character, Josh, is just so incredibly unlikable that it tarnishes the whole thing. Plus, I think he's hideous to look at.

How in the world did this make it to television?

by Anonymousreply 4008/03/2014

Josh is adorable, and the show is actually heartbreaking if you give it a chance. The final episode of Season 1 is really well done, as was the whole Auntie Peg story arc.

Can't wait for Season 2 over here.

by Anonymousreply 4108/04/2014

Josh Thomas is fucking annoying. And don't get me started on that fake Welsh accent he puts on.

by Anonymousreply 4208/04/2014

All of the negative posters on this thread come off as more insufferable to be around than Josh ever does.

It just makes me like Josh even more.

by Anonymousreply 4308/04/2014

What a shame that other Australian show A Place To Call Home which also a gay character and good storytelling got axed in the middle of season 2

by Anonymousreply 4408/04/2014

So he's bisexual, not gay.

by Anonymousreply 4508/04/2014

He's absolutely hideous and dumber than a box of hair.

by Anonymousreply 4608/04/2014

I'm an Australian and I have never heard another Australian talk like him in my life. I don't know if it's an affectation or if there is something genuinely wrong with him, but it's fucking awful. He was also on the Australian version of that celebrity diving show and it was painful to watch his body shame.

by Anonymousreply 4708/04/2014

Really, R47?

No gay person in Australia has body shame? No one on Datalounge?

Reads like people around here hate in Josh the character what they don't like in themselves.

It's a comedy. He's admitting the flaws in the character. How can people not get that?

Lots of humourless people on DL, surprise surprise.

by Anonymousreply 4808/04/2014

What are you talking about R47? I was referring to Josh's appearance on a nationally televised show where he got his kit off and looked like he wanted to kill himself. No one for ed him to appear nearly naked diving into a pool.

by Anonymousreply 4908/04/2014

I'm talking about what you're talking about, R49.

The thread was about the show, and you decided to bitch about the person and the comic.

No one forced you to watch the show either. "Painful" to watch? Turn it off.

He's a comic, mocking himself and his anxieties in his TV appearances, including the show. He wants you to laugh at him.

Again, I think he's funny. You seem awfully bitter not to get it.

by Anonymousreply 5008/04/2014

I'll check out the second series but I have little interest in Josh himself. He's like a less effective version of Simon Amstell with his "charming arsehole" persona.

He has introduced me to a lot of Australian gay comedians, though.

by Anonymousreply 5108/04/2014

R47 - you need sunglasses to look at his pasty, white body. Don't you have tanning beds in Australia? Or at least spray tans?

by Anonymousreply 5208/04/2014

Tanning beds in Australia?! Is that meant to be a witticism?

by Anonymousreply 5308/04/2014

Haha - just googled - didn't realize Oz is moving to ban tanning beds. Great idea.

by Anonymousreply 5408/04/2014

Apparently Josh has had his hair done (plugs? weave?) for the second series. I didn't notice he was losing it in the first one.

by Anonymousreply 5508/04/2014

New episode tonight

by Anonymousreply 5608/08/2014

Josh is the gay Hannah of Girls. It's his friends that make the series interesting.

by Anonymousreply 5708/09/2014

What did everyone think of the first episode of the new season?

I talk to people with various accents from all over the world every day, and usually I don't have a problem, but I kept needing to go back and listen to parts again to try to get everything. I think the sound mix is bad.

I liked it, though. A bit of eye candy, which was nice.

by Anonymousreply 5808/14/2014

They gave everyone a makeover for the second season. Probably a condition for the American cable network Pivot to bankroll it.

Josh got more hair, and perhaps a nose job? Or chin tuck, or .. something. He looks different and not so off-putting. Ditto the fat roommate's fat girlfriend, Josh's mother, Josh's dad...

Unwisely, the insanely hot Wade Briggs is gone. So I will be too, probably.

Wade's ass:

by Anonymousreply 5908/14/2014

I have no idea how to watch it... is it online somewhere, because it doesn't seem to be on any channel I have...

by Anonymousreply 6008/14/2014

R58, put on the closed captions.

by Anonymousreply 6108/14/2014

I got it through a torrent, R61, so there were no captions. That's what you get for stealing!

by Anonymousreply 6208/14/2014

Season Two is underway.

by Anonymousreply 6308/22/2014

Josh Thomas is great. He made a tv series where he gets the hot muscle dude. Which one of you would have had the balls to do that?

Anyway, he breaks up with him in season one.

by Anonymousreply 6408/22/2014

Josh being interviewed back in the day. That's apparently not an accent but his normal speaking voice.

by Anonymousreply 6508/22/2014

Geoffrey -- perfection on a plate. And I think that's the point.

by Anonymousreply 6608/23/2014

Anyone still watching? Charles Cottier, who plays Patrick, is quite the cutie. I hope he gets naked.

by Anonymousreply 6709/06/2014

Josh is a knowledgable, capable, and well-spoken gay activist in addition to his comedy and creative activities. He will be a community leader for the rest of his life.

by Anonymousreply 6809/06/2014

There is something strangely beautiful about this show. I look forward to it every week.

by Anonymousreply 6909/06/2014

The main star is distractingly ugly.

by Anonymousreply 7009/06/2014

I just can't bring myself to watch this. When I first saw Josh I thought he was Chloe Sevigny in drag and thought this could be interesting. Then I heard him speak and I had to change channels immediately.

by Anonymousreply 7109/06/2014

This show is amazing and I want to see Arnold's hairy feets.

by Anonymousreply 7209/06/2014

Now that you mention it, R70 - you're absolutely right!

What a pity that they didn't make this premise one of the foundations upon which the whole show is built.

by Anonymousreply 7309/06/2014

I've watched the entire first season and the first three episodes of the second one and I love it.

by Anonymousreply 7409/07/2014

Absolutely love it....just watched season 1 and first four of the second season. There's going to be a third season, as well.

All the characters are nice... like a modern day Jane Austin lol. Josh is talented and annoying, the relatives are a fuckin' hoot (Aunt Peg and Mae, Mom and Dad). Very well written, unique, heart-breaking at times and so damned funny. No laugh tracts or idiotic one-liners; really good situational humor and the actors are quite talented.

by Anonymousreply 7509/07/2014

^ *Austen oops.

by Anonymousreply 7609/07/2014

Josh clearly belongs with Arnold. They would make mad passionate love!

Tom is such a prick, so true to life as a straight man.

by Anonymousreply 7709/07/2014

Just watched episode five. Ginger nearly made me pee laughing. Such a brilliantly tragic and funny group of characters. Tom is an utter prat but hilarious just the same.

by Anonymousreply 7809/07/2014

All signs point to Josh getting together with Arnold, although I'm not sure if they'll do it this season or next season.

I love Patrick though, Charles Cottier is cute as hell. I hope he's a permanent addition to the cast.

by Anonymousreply 7909/07/2014

Loved that takedown of Reiki massage middle class white people thinking Asians are magic.

by Anonymousreply 8009/07/2014

Love Mom's new 'friends'...Hannah and Ginger! lmfao. Patrick is a doll. Mae's parents' online chat. The dog and another's dress-up photos!

by Anonymousreply 8109/07/2014

I think Josh is kind of cute and I love how he gets to kiss all the hot guys on the show.

by Anonymousreply 8209/07/2014

Geoffrey is so Australian: "These things happen for a reason! If they hadn't happened, you wouldn't have such a cool car!"

by Anonymousreply 8309/07/2014

That puppy Velvet was beautiful. I guess it can't stay in the show because it is cuter than John, but what an incredible puppy.

by Anonymousreply 8409/07/2014

Josh Thomas is on Fresh Air right now.

by Anonymousreply 8509/15/2014

Good episode this week! Poor Ginger!

by Anonymousreply 8609/15/2014

Hunk Tommy Little teases poor Josh.

by Anonymousreply 8709/15/2014

Possibly the show is a little misogynistic with the portrayal of Neve, but I'm sure Josh will rein it in.

by Anonymousreply 8809/15/2014

Too bad they never gave Will Anderson a show.

by Anonymousreply 8909/15/2014
The main star is distractingly ugly.

Honestly attractive people tend not to make good comics. You experience things differently when you grow up unattractive. Those comics have seen more ugliness from the world and they have learned how to get people to love them by laughing with them.

When you were always an attractive person and always had people who just liked you and treated you nicer, just changes things and *tends* not to craft that real comic edge.

by Anonymousreply 9009/15/2014

Tommy Little doesn't need to be funny

by Anonymousreply 9109/15/2014

In one of his sets Josh said he discovered he was gay when he made out with his friend Tom. Now the guy who plays Tom is a friend so I'm wondering if it's that guy.

by Anonymousreply 9209/15/2014

He was on NPR with Terry Gross today. They ran ads for it about eight or ten times where Terry said he told about texting his father to announce that he's gay. In the ad, he read the text but I couldn't understand anything he mumbled. I turned up the volume but still couldn't get it. I wasn't going to waste my time listening to a mumbled interview.

by Anonymousreply 9309/15/2014

R92, no that was Tom Ballard (who he made out with), his friend is Tom Ward.

by Anonymousreply 9409/15/2014

Tommy Little's body not as great as I thought during his nude bungee jump

by Anonymousreply 9509/15/2014

Love Josh but the hair is an affectation. You know they can do better with it. He doesn't need to keep it like that.

by Anonymousreply 9609/15/2014

Josh did kiss Arnold in episode 6. Awesome. Arnold is way prettier than Patrick and Geoffrey. Nicer, too. But that was a super sad ending. But Josh can't really move into the mental home to be with Arnold, now can he?

by Anonymousreply 9709/16/2014

All the characters are well developed except Patrick. I'm still not getting that one. He likes spending time with Josh and likes to hug and kiss him but doesn't want to have sex? Seems most peculiar.

by Anonymousreply 9809/16/2014

I'm thinking Patrick must be based on someone real and Josh hasn't figured it out himself.

by Anonymousreply 9909/16/2014

I love this show so, so much..it mixes comedy and tragedy and creepy stuff really well.

by Anonymousreply 10009/16/2014

R89 Having met him I can unfortunately advise that Will Anderson is a self-important tool

by Anonymousreply 10109/17/2014

I think there may be repercussions from Josh not realizing Ginger was going to off herself. He should have realized something was up because she was dressed up, had put on makeup, and had a flower in her hair. All so she could enjoy some alone time? I think maybe some of them are gonna blame Josh for not stopping this.

by Anonymousreply 10209/17/2014

I wonder if comics in Australia do loads of meth and so on.

by Anonymousreply 10309/17/2014

Dude playing the mental patient is HOT!

Josh Thomas spoke before Congress this year about mental health.

The crazy mother is based on his own.

It's hilarious how he writes in all these guys who wouldn't give him the time of day. He's the male Lena Dunham.

by Anonymousreply 10410/02/2014

Can't believe they got the real Hannah, who's a comedian to play a role on the show. She has the biggest hips in the world.

The house the show uses is Josh's actual house.

Josh gets the shit kicked out of him all the time for that fake accent he puts on.

by Anonymousreply 10510/02/2014

"Would you pay a restaurant not to feed you?"

by Anonymousreply 10610/02/2014

Love the new roommate. He is the hottest and a better nonchalance gay since that awful Happy Ending gay.

by Anonymousreply 10710/05/2014
Love the new roommate. He is the hottest and a better nonchalance gay since that awful Happy Ending gay.

Did you use Google Translate?
Can't believe they got the real Hannah, who's a comedian to play a role on the show.

What do you mean by the real Hannah? Is she playing a dramatised version of herself?
It's hilarious how he writes in all these guys who wouldn't give him the time of day. He's the male Lena Dunham.

Not quite. Here's one of his exes. I'd say Josh punched above his weight with this one. His current boyfriend, btw, is the long haired guy who walked out of the dinner date with Josh cause he was being a dick.

by Anonymousreply 10810/05/2014
Not quite. Here's one of his exes. I'd say Josh punched above his weight with this one. His current boyfriend, btw, is the long haired guy who walked out of the dinner date with Josh cause he was being a dick.

Well Josh is a celebrity so one of the perks is he can land hotter guys. However his character would not be dating these hotties.

by Anonymousreply 10910/05/2014
Well Josh is a celebrity so one of the perks is he can land hotter guys. However his character would not be dating these hotties.

Fair point but the first (and hottest guy) was a space cadet and the latest guy has a mental illness, which leaves only the guy who decided he actually didn't want to have sex with Josh. I think he can get away with that as believable.

by Anonymousreply 11010/05/2014

The latest episode was actually the first in the show's history that I haven't liked.

Josh barricading Tom in his room for eating his truffle mac and cheese (which he mentioned about 400 times in the 24 minutes) was stupid, it departed from the show's usual cleverness into campy sitcom territory.

They shouldn't have killed off Ginger, she made the mental hospital scenes entertaining, they're going to be dull now that she's gone.

by Anonymousreply 11110/05/2014

They shouldn't waste too much time on Tom. He's better as a generic sideline pig. The bath scene was ridiculous - did he stick GI Joe up his butt or something?

I liked this episode. It was the walking in Tasmania episode that got a little lame because he threw in bits from old standups.

I really wonder if they gave him more weeks on season 2 than he originally planned or something. It looks hilarious that the next episode will require him to have a chaperone on his date with Arnold.

by Anonymousreply 11210/05/2014

I like the show. I can't really see hot guys being interested in him (Lens Dunham, indeed), but it's smart and well written. And well acted.

by Anonymousreply 11310/05/2014

That guy looks like Pavel from the Irish soap opera "Raw." He dated Josh?

by Anonymousreply 11410/05/2014

I don't think we're through with Patrick yet.

by Anonymousreply 11510/05/2014

R115, apparently Patrick comes back in episode 10. Charles Cottier is really cute, I wish they would've given him more screen time.

I don't particularly like Arnold, but I think Arnold is a more realistic person for Josh to be dating.

by Anonymousreply 11610/05/2014

Did anyone watch Josh on Q&A? I think he did quite well.

by Anonymousreply 11710/08/2014

I think Josh needs rabies shots after messing with that opossum. They have rabies in Australia, don't they?

by Anonymousreply 11810/08/2014

Josh looked hot in his apron. His face isn't bad until he starts talking. Loved the psychiatrist, who was appropriately condescending, insecure, and offbeat. Of course Arnold is rich. Josh can't make a living off that cart.

by Anonymousreply 11910/08/2014

R118, Australian possums (different from American opossums) wouldn't carry rabies. There is only one form of rabies found in Australia and it is only carried by bats.

by Anonymousreply 12010/08/2014

Another link to Josh speaking smartly and eloquently

by Anonymousreply 12110/08/2014

The last three episodes (Tom locked in his "fort", the hiking trip with mom, and the skinny latte coffee cart with the family brawl and no customers) were a real letdown. I'm not really liking the subtle episode-by-episode slide towards the sitcom format. If it goes on like this, it'll be slapstick and pratfalls for all of season three.

by Anonymousreply 12210/10/2014

Hate to say it, but I sort of agree with R122.

The first series was impressive not only because of its originality but because it was meticulously crafted. Every episode seemed vital to the plot and the evolution of the characters. Series 2 is playing out like he just made it up as he went, without much thought into its trajectory, and he's dropped the ball on some of the character development (like Patrick, for example).

Oddly I sort of enjoyed the hiking episode, it was one of the few episodes of the series where the characters didn't seem completely shallow, and the discussions he had with his mother about mental illness were interesting to me.

Is he purposefully writing Arnold to be unlikable now? When they first introduced Arnold I figured he'd be perfect for Josh but after the latest coffee cart/possum episode he's coming off like a whiny, entitled brat.

by Anonymousreply 12310/10/2014

I'm thinking it's Josh's intention to end each season on a down note. And he's still a gay virgin, right?

by Anonymousreply 12410/10/2014

Maybe Patrick has HIV and that's why he didn't want to fuck Josh but was too lame to talk about it.

by Anonymousreply 12510/10/2014
And he's still a gay virgin, right?

You mean he hasn't been fucked?

by Anonymousreply 12610/10/2014

I can't believe we don't get Pivot here. Our city = Comcast hq. We get ten billion channels, and they can't give us Pivot and Logo or OWN in HD?? Unreal.

by Anonymousreply 12710/10/2014

I was so hoping the last episode would be amazing, but it wasn't....

Still no resolution of the Patrick story line, I guess we're not getting one.

I know Arnold is supposed to be sweet but his man-child act is actually really tedious and annoying. Josh continuing to fawn over him after he had a nervous breakdown on both dates they went on is stupid and unrealistic. Josh (and any other gay man) would run for the hills.

On a positive note, I loved the hot-air balloon scene and I think the Mum/Hannah friendship is the most endearing relationship on the whole show.

by Anonymousreply 12810/14/2014

When did Arnold say that he couldn't have a boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 12910/15/2014

125 maybe you are right, he was a bit of a hussy, and maybe thinking Josh is one of those nice guys, didn't want to tell him.

by Anonymousreply 13010/15/2014

I loved it, r128, and it's typical of Thomas. There's no ending. I love Keegan Joyce. That boy has the most deranged smile I've ever seen. His panic attack was done very well. I thought that the mother may try lesbianism, but I'm glad they didn't go that route. Too predictable. Also, the father being turned down for marriage was also unexpected. Josh seems to really like going the opposite direction when it comes to what people expect to happen or want to happen. Keegan fit David Sadaris' books in scenes. It's amazing that he only gave his ex-girlfriend one episode this year, like his former love interest. He had ten episodes to work with, and he ditched them. I totally don't mind.

"Please Like Me" is now up for an Emmy Award this year (International). He has a very good chance of winning.

by Anonymousreply 13110/15/2014

Why is he playing a 20 year old if he's 27 irl?

by Anonymousreply 13210/15/2014

R132, because a 20 year old with no ambition who lives off his dad's money is still sort of acceptable, it's not if you're 27, then it's pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 13310/15/2014

.

by Anonymousreply 13410/15/2014

He's 23 in the sh how now?

by Anonymousreply 13510/15/2014

Why did Halogen fail as a network? It had such a nice name.

by Anonymousreply 13610/15/2014

Arnold's chest hair was really quite hot.

I'm wondering if Arnold was more disappointed in Josh's body revealed at the beach than he let on.

by Anonymousreply 13710/15/2014

They overheated and burned people's eyes.

by Anonymousreply 13810/15/2014

Patrick had a lovely ass.

by Anonymousreply 13910/15/2014

Also I thought Josh's mom sold her house so where are she and Hannah living?

by Anonymousreply 14010/15/2014

R133=mentally ill dinosaur. How did they implant seventeenth century Puritan values in a modern? It must have been with booze and cocaine.

by Anonymousreply 14110/15/2014

But didn't Patrick have sex with Steven, Arnold's brother, in season 1?

by Anonymousreply 14210/15/2014

I mean season 2 at the start?

by Anonymousreply 14310/15/2014

And how bad with the gays can Arnold's dad be if he named his adopted boy "Arnold"?

by Anonymousreply 14410/15/2014

It didn't seem like much of a breakdown to me. I guess I've been having them all along and didn't know what they were called

by Anonymousreply 14510/15/2014

What are you talking about, R141?

by Anonymousreply 14610/15/2014

Nobody is obsessed with your stupid ideas about ambition and self-reliance except some ministers from the seventeenth century who are all dead.

by Anonymousreply 14710/15/2014

I thought the ending was OK except I don't like Tom's subplot. That mouthbreather is too blank to have any "deep" storylines be effective in his hands.

by Anonymousreply 14810/15/2014

Are we supposed to think he was trying to kill himself in the kiddie pool when we know they have a spa?

by Anonymousreply 14910/15/2014

That Aussie mental home looks really nice. I used to volunteer at a public hospital in the US and whoa, you would not want to be there.

by Anonymousreply 15010/15/2014

Josh getting in to the pool in his shirt was random. Perhaps he didn't want to show his naked torso in natural light.

by Anonymousreply 15110/15/2014

r142, that wasn't Arnold's brother. Arnold's brother is the one who is offended by Josh's trash talk aimed at Arnold during the party game.

by Anonymousreply 15210/17/2014

R132, they're actually around 22. Because the show started with the coming out story in S1 and Josh had his tv version do that at the same age he did.

by Anonymousreply 15310/17/2014

Josh came out in 2010, so I do believe he is 25 or 26.

by Anonymousreply 15410/17/2014

What do we know about Keegan Joyce, Josh's mental patient love interest? He's adorable.

by Anonymousreply 15510/19/2014

Is that a wig? The hair doesn't look real to me.

by Anonymousreply 15610/19/2014

Looks like Joyce the professional actor with by far the most good credits of anyone in the cast. He played Oliver Twist in the Asian road show of "Oliver!"

I wish Josh would take a lesson in enunciation. Sometimes I miss things he said because he doesn't pronounce individual words distinctly like an actor is trained to.

by Anonymousreply 15710/19/2014
I wish Josh would take a lesson in enunciation. Sometimes I miss things he said because he doesn't pronounce individual words distinctly like an actor is trained to.

That's all part of his persona. Same with the "from nowhere" accent.

by Anonymousreply 15810/19/2014

Tommy Little's "It Gets Better" video is outstanding.

by Anonymousreply 15910/19/2014

Josh Thomas' former boyfriend Tom Ballard

by Anonymousreply 16010/19/2014

Tom Ballard is younger

by Anonymousreply 16110/19/2014

Is he talking about his breakup with Josh? Did Josh give him scabies?

by Anonymousreply 16210/19/2014

Did Josh sleep with his grandma?

by Anonymousreply 16310/19/2014

Arkansas' Republican attorney general committed vote fraud.

by Anonymousreply 16410/19/2014

The most important case of voter fraud in U.S. history was committed by Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio Secretary of State, in 2004, a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 16510/19/2014

Hannah Gadsby's standup.

by Anonymousreply 16610/19/2014

Her novel arguments for gay marriage.

by Anonymousreply 16710/19/2014

Keegan has a natural afro. He performed as Oliver more times than any other actor in the business. He's a professional musician. He has the weirdest smile, though adorable. If Keegan isn't gay, he has to be bi. No straight man can kiss another man that way unless their name is Meryl. His meltdown scene was unreliably accurate.

It's amazing how Thomas gets actors who can perform as socially retarded as he is. Has he birthed these actors?? He must really direct them on set to get them to do it just right.

There's been a bit of controversy regarding the portrayl of his father's girlfriend. The actress sounds nothing like it, this people find it to be a racial stereotype. The actress has some sort of medical degree irl. Smart woman.

by Anonymousreply 16810/20/2014

Keegan Joyce as a teen. He had beautiful hair. I think they ruined it somehow.

by Anonymousreply 16910/20/2014

An old Hannah Gadsby that is very funny.

She does talk a little too much about her body.

by Anonymousreply 17010/20/2014

I love Caitlin Stasey as Claire. She also plays the slutty Kenna in "Reign".

by Anonymousreply 17110/20/2014

Keegan is dating an Asian chick = Gay.

by Anonymousreply 17210/20/2014

I love series 2 a million times more than season 1.

by Anonymousreply 17310/20/2014

"'Please Like Me' creator surprised rape wasn't a bigger deal"

In "Please Like Me's" Season 2 finale Josh (Josh Thomas) is torn between Arnold (Keegan Joyce), a cutie with some slight mental problems and Patrick (Charles Cottier), Josh's old roommate and the first man to kick him out of bed. But the more important issue on the table is what in the world in going on with Tom (Thomas Ward).

His dabble with hiring a prostitute is just the latest in a string of crazy ways he has been recovering from a moment of trauma that seems to have gone over a lot of viewers heads. "I'm a bit worried about Tom, because he got raped and only some people seem to have noticed. I feel like if we had done that scene with the genders reversed it really would have been spoken about a lot more," show star and creator Josh Thomas tells Zap2it.

So will the show be acknowledging the incident in Season 3? Viewers shouldn't bet on it. "We won't. We are just having it show in his character. He's really in a weird place. We don't specifically talk about it because I don't think he would," Thomas says.

Even though the incident won't be addressed Thomas says, "It definitely will effect how Tom views relationships for a long while."

by Anonymousreply 17410/27/2014

Wait, when was Tom raped? By the obnoxious gf-turned-fuckbuddy?
It's amazing how Thomas gets actors who can perform as socially retarded as he is. Has he birthed these actors?? He must really direct them on set to get them to do it just right.

Which actors do you mean? Tom is his friend in real life and he has that affect naturally. Apart from Arnold, Hannah Gadsby's the only awkward one and she's a comedian.

by Anonymousreply 17510/27/2014

Oh, I remember - the Asian teen. I don't think that was rape.

by Anonymousreply 17610/27/2014

He didn't even fight her off. What is Josh talking about?

by Anonymousreply 17711/06/2014

The girl who was upset about her rabbit dying? That was a rape?

by Anonymousreply 17811/07/2014

Or maybe the woman who called him evil in the first episode.

by Anonymousreply 17911/07/2014

No it was the rabbit girl. He resisted taking his clothes off and she slapped him then she put him on the floor and avoided condom, so...is he going to have a child with her then?

But of course he was twice her size so he could have gotten away at any time.

by Anonymousreply 18011/07/2014

Just watched Season 1 and 2 and love it. I especially love Mae! I guess hot Geoffrey comes back in Season 3? More please!

by Anonymousreply 18103/06/2015

Any news in session 3 yet?
