Because they want to fuck them, they have to pretend that they actually like them. Deep down women annoy the living hell out of them for their cattiness, their silliness, their reliance on religion, their emotional outbursts, and their fondness for casseroles, among other "virtues." In order to gain access to their pussies they must play nice. This is a fact. %0D %0D %0D I wish the phobic fraus would stop saying we gay men have mommy issues every time we criticize them. [quote]I even think psychopathy is about equal in both genders but males are more prone to physical violence - or maybe they are just braver.%0D %0D Psychopathy is a forensic term and not a clinical diagnosis. by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 18, 2010 5:02 AM |
Well maybe, but I think it just manifests differently in women so it isn't diagnosed as often. If you define it as lack of empathy with sadistic elements. "Mean girls" don't act out the same way boys and men with APD, so I still think it might be roughly equal.

There's a big difference between "mean" and APD, R30. And APD is more common in males, beyond any doubt. But when we're talking APD, we're really talking extremes, so that really isn't that pertinent to a general discussion of male vs. female personalities and/or behavior, IMO.

Two young people who work for me have good marriages. The young woman just went with her husband to China. They brought back amazing photos and stories. He did not have to prop her up -- she is an adventurer, not a harpy.

He wasn't threatened by women and always had a girlfriend and a series of other female friends who were always taking care of him, driving him around, making him meals, etc.
Perhaps his lack of insecurity had to do with his really beautiful 8 inch penis and his nice, lean rock climber body.
I finally realized I'm not hetero, but his wife is a lucky woman. We're still friends.

I find OP's post very strange. Aren't men the ones who started religion (and have often used it to women's detriment)? Don't they have emotional outbursts (and sometimes very violent ones, at that)? Don't they have their silliness and their cattiness and their fondness for foods (if not making them, then eating them)? The answer to all these questions is yes. Men, straight and gay, have plenty of their own annoying "quirks" that women have to live with. And chief among them, especially on DL, seems to be declaring their perceived superiority every two-to-three seconds.

It is fascinating to see how some gay men -- in their conflicted attitudes towards women -- exemplify Freud's theory of the etiology of homosexuality as a form of arrested development, specifically during the Oedipal process. %0D %0D In other words, the little boy, believing that females are only castrated males (the father having cut off the penis as punishment for being bad), sees female genitals as frightening and disgusting(witness the disgust and horror so many gay men express at female genitals, with talk of the bad smells and the "gash," suggesting amputation).%0D %0D Since little boys value their penis above all else, females are thus seen as mutilated, damaged males. Straight males get beyond this stage, passing through the entire Oedipal process into the latency period, etc. Gay males remain stuck somewhere in the Oedipal stage, continuing to see the female as an inadequate male, dispossessed of the most valuable attribute of maleness and thus to be disdained. Only those possessing the all-important penis can be objects of romantic and erotic attraction.%0D %0D This theory goes some way towards explaining the features of some gay men's attitudes towards women. Horror, disgust, disdain, hostility rooted in fear (of being similarly mutilated). This is one interpretation of the kinds of attitudes towards women one can see towards women on DL, the OP's in particular.%0D %0D Maybe Freud was onto something.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 18, 2010 8:23 PM |
Addendum to previous posting on Freud:%0D %0D Before everyone jumps all over Freud, remember that Freud did not see homosexuality as an illness in need of treatment. by Anonymous | reply 78 | December 18, 2010 10:56 PM |
I think what the OP described is true of some straight men, I don't know if most or all. I work in an all male environment, and all the guys seem to worship their wives. They're all geeks though, so maybe that's somehow part of it. But some straight guys you just wonder why the heck they aren't gay, if they hate women so much. I mean, they like anal and oral I assume, so why bother trying to find a woman? Of course it works the other way too. With women it's even more baffling. With men, they at least seem to be into the pussy, even if they hate the human being it's attached to. But I've met women who seem to hate both the dick and the person it's attached to, and yet are still somehow straight.

by Anonymous | reply 82 | December 18, 2010 11:34 PM |
R81, I wouldn't say straight men are more misogynistic than gay men. They are differently misogynistic because they relate differently to women. If you check out my earlier posting on Freud's theory of homosexuality, you might say that gay men's misogyny is rooted in physical disgust at women and because they are not engaged with women as partners their misogyny is less harmful, though perhaps more open, as OP demonstrates.%0D %0D Straight men's feelings towards women are complicated, a mixture of love, hate, and deep dependency. And women's feelings are equally so.

Honey, that shit's more than 100 years old and not based on a shred of, you know, something called science.
Freud makes for some interesting reading about the foundations and underpinnings of the intellectual movements of the 20th century, but other than that: Give. it. up.
His theories have nothing to tell us about the "origins of homosexuality" or whatever nonsense it is you're trying to sell here.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | December 19, 2010 12:00 AM |
R84, I am aware that Freud is not taken so seriously as he once was, especially in the U.S. But he is still taken very seriously in European psychiatry, where he is foundational.%0D %0D As for theories of the etiology of homosexuality, anybody's guess is probably good at this point. The purely biological theory is still unproven and the consensus in the psychiatric community at this point seems to point to a combination of the biological and the environmental/developmental. So %0D Freud may have a place. %0D %0D And no matter how old Freud's theory might be, that is no basis for dismissing it out of hand. Going to dismiss Newton and Darwin as well?%0D %0D Freud's take at least provides the only coherent explanation I have ever encountered for the irrational, almost violent hostility and disgust that many gay men express towards women's bodies, particularly their genitals.%0D %0D Inadequately negotiated Oedipal process. That's what a European psychiatrist might say. In fact, I have heard one say it. But that's debatable too, of course.%0D %0D It's all up for grabs.%0D

A friend of mine thought he would get more sex and understanding in the gay world. He went to gay bars (this is before the interwebs).
He felt it was weird not to hear womens' high heels and bracelets making their customary noise. He was disoriented not smelling womens' scent -- face cream, perfume, and so on.
And he was shocked by the artificiality, unfriendliness, and one-up-manship of the gay environment.

"My impression is that the guys have a deeper emotional dependency on their wives, whereas the women's dependencies on their husbands are more pragmatic." I think that's true. r21, In my experience, it is true that some straight guys really love talking to me about their spouses/girlfriends and relationships. And I do think it's comparable to the way some straight chicks love to hang around gay guys.
In some cases, it's because we have similar interests. I'm not particularly butch (I can't recall anyone ever knowing I was gay until I told them), but I love sports and sci fi movies and shows and that is often a lot of what we talk about. On the other hand, since I'm a woman, sometimes they will want to talk to me about problems that they have, wanting my perspective on it or maybe just wanting someone who was willing to just listen to and understand relationship issues.
I think there's a safety there sometimes, someone who can understand your perspective but has an entirely different one of their own. And since I do usually have more common interests with straight guys than straight girls and I'm sure that's a part of it, too.

Freud was parochial in view, basing everything he came up with on his own culture and particularly on his relationship with his mommy. %0D %0D His Oedipal theory was created after he announced that large numbers of women with "hysteria" were actually molested or raped by family members. The backlash was so overwhelming Freud recanted the idea that these women had been imposed on and changed it to their reaction to their fantasy of having sex with their fathers.%0D %0D He also had this dentist friend who routinely supplied him with cocaine. This is well-known in Europe and the US. Freud was a red-hot mess.%0D %0D However, what Freud did do was popularize the idea of the unconcious and turned the attention of numerous folks onto the idea that studying the unconcious could be something wonderous. And he was right about that.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | December 19, 2010 3:02 PM |
Here's a rather irreverent reference to the dentist.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | December 19, 2010 3:02 PM |
Freud also focused on "hysterical" women because they "interested" him more than men whom he acknowledged to be equally hysterical.

I don't think even a large percentage of gay men or straight men hate women. What I do find is that when a straight man comes to hate women the hate is different. Straight men hate lends to abuse, rape, murder, and anything they can do to subjugate women.
When expressing their hatred of women gay men usually just use barbs like "you're, fat. That's right I said it. Kitty has claws"
The gay's hatred of women I think 99.98027% of the time is pussy envy.

Why don't you anonymously poll straight men and find out what they want? My guess is sex with different hotties (men and women) all the time. Then these partners will leave when the sex is over so he can watch sports or work on his car. Men will marry her if she has moneymaking potential or comes from money.%0D %0D In fact, it's all about money.%0D %0D I think long-term relationships are unnatural. It's a fairly modern institution in the history of humans.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | December 20, 2010 6:00 PM |
He'll also marry her if she'll cook for him and keep the house clean. And also raise his kids. I also agree with r102. Straight men are the bane of the species. They kill women. They kill gay men. They kill each other. For the supposedly more ration species, they settle a lot of their conflicts in a blind rage. I think a lot of their dislike of gay men is based on the fact that gay men are superior.

Frau-type women have totally messed up the office environment, but mostly because the straight men look at them, see their wives, and run to hide. They leave the rest of us to deal with them.

The writing is on the wall.. %0D %0D %0D That being said, I love being a woman. Being a woman means having power. Being a woman means men can't live without you. No they don't, 126. If you were referring to me at R125 please note I did not say all women. Not liking a personality type and obnoxious behavior is not a "problem," as you suggest. %0D %0D The problems lie with those females who so easily conform to life styles and behavioral habits that are off-putting to healthy and mature people. %0D %0D Like it or not, willing to admit it or not, there ARE behaviors that are common to segments of the female population (similarly in the male population) that are just annoying or even repugnant to what I think are more normal folk. %0D %0D Just one case in point: this revived silliness of over the top engagements and weddings. So common now and yet sooo disgusting and oddly enough IMO quite removed from real romance. I want nothing to do with the females who foist this on the rest of us and particularly on the men they claim to love. (Yes. I know some men gladly participate)%0D %0D I also hate the whole sorority mentality and gaggle of girlfriends schtick. And, no, I was never rejected by a sorority and, yes, I have lots of friends and colleagues - in assorted shapes and sizes.

I feel confused by DL lesbians. On one hand they seem to be extremely laid back and easy going, intelligent; other times they come across as belligerent. It's difficult to get a read on where the DL lesbians are coming from.
For example, once I asked "what is lesbian drama, and how does it differ from gay drama". I got some silly answer regarding a U-Haul. I asked then why feed stereotypes, why not just give a straight-up answer; no reply. So I figure the lesbians here have a sense of humor.
I love my lesbian friends, I would never have the audacity to ask them what "lesbian drama" is (it seems lacking in my friends). Since "LD" is so freely discussed here I figure it's a safe question- turns out I just got a deficient, juvenile answer; so every now and again I check in with a question or two, and a little fun jab- nothing hateful.

OP, a lot of what you say is true, and certainly confirmed by the testimony of many straight men and the reality of relationships today.
Where I would say you go off track is when you say women have a "reliance on religion". That is a broad statement, and you need to explain what you mean. Afterall, women are usually less conservative than men when it comes to many issues eg. more women vote Democratic than Republican, more women are pro-gay etc.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 4, 2012 9:18 PM |
I came out kind of late after several straight relationships. I found the women I went out with to be much smarter, more open minded and sexually curious then most of the men I've been in relationships with. Unfortunately they weren't penised.

I think for many straight men their image of their masculinity depends on women, on how desirable they are to them, on how respected and appreciated they are by them and when they don't get all/enough of that (or think they don't get it), they resent them. Not so different than how gay men judge their own gay market value.

By the same token, r166, if gay men have been villified, demonized, denigrated, attacked, mocked, and murdered, for thousands of years, how can you expect there not to be some mild mocking of straight people in return. And why is that the point at which you finally bristle?
by Anonymous | reply 167 | February 19, 2013 12:12 PM |

R181, most women are less honest than men though. They maybe hate men but their vanity would never allow them to end up with a woman. That thing goes for most women, including myself maybe...
I find women frustrating as friends. They can seem very good at the beginning, but later unfortunately, you realize those terribly undercurrents that undermine your bond with them. I hate it when other women do that. That leaves me so cold and makes me want to fly away. Men are more loyal emotionally at least...
by Anonymous | reply 182 | November 7, 2013 1:24 PM |
Could you elaborate, R182? I have been friends with some women who establish trust with me - not easy for me - only to use it against you behind your back, like you're something to be dissected on a tray. by Anonymous | reply 187 | November 7, 2013 4:15 PM |
R188 makes a great point. I see men nowadays totally dependent on their wives, completely pussy whipped, and even enamored with their bitchy, back stabbing fraus. I'm talking lower-middle class and middle-class whites.
It seems to me that men are weaker than ever and give up on masculinity at younger and younger ages. Why else would a decent guy settle for a mean, droll, ugly woman? But I see it all the time.
Last night I happen to catch that John Grey dude on the radio, and he was saying that most men are suffering from low testosterone levels and don't know it. I believe it.
Or, they are incredibly lazy and just want a bitchy wife to boss him and others around.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | November 7, 2013 4:21 PM |
The straight married male friends I have love their wives. They seem perfectly content to move out to Brooklyn and start raising families. The women aren't ugly trolls or dominating forces of evil either.
Maybe it's just the women that some of you associate with that are giving you a false impression of what most married couples are like.

by Anonymous | reply 191 | November 7, 2013 5:21 PM |
Not sure that most men suffer from low testosterone levels, but agree that John Grey does.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | November 7, 2013 5:25 PM |
R184, i can't elaborate on it...
All i can say is that i think that most women, more or less, unfortunately, are not as friendly as they appear to be. Men have many imperfections, ok, but for most of them their betrayal is just something goofy. A woman can be so frustrating in so many ways with another woman. I don't know why that happens, i guess, because it just does. What else can i say?
I find women very attractive and a good company, but i think that they are not the friends they were supposed to be. They fake it and they find that reasonable.

You have to look at the picture in its entirety and low T has nothing to do with saving your battles for the right time. The situation would be the same if you were gay or straight.
