Curb Your Enthusiasm

I recently rewatched seasons 1-7. The show is often stupid and the set ups get a bit repetitive, but on the other hand, I often find it hilarious.

Was this show ever discussed much on DL? Any fans?

Does anyone else find Cheryl David to not be that sympathetic of a character? Not that she's awful or anything, but she's sort of annoying, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 1November 30, 2010 3:54 AM

Why would you do that, Larry?

by Anonymousreply 2November 30, 2010 3:56 AM

Funny you should mention that. I just put a bunch of seasons on my Netflix queue. The first 2 discs of season 1 just arrived, and I'll be watching them in the next couple days.

by Anonymousreply 3November 30, 2010 3:58 AM

I don't think Cheryl is supposed to be likeable. If she were, Larry would look like the complete asshole he is.

I adore Susie.

by Anonymousreply 4November 30, 2010 4:00 AM

Susie Green should be a DL icon.

by Anonymousreply 5November 30, 2010 4:00 AM

I loved the "The Freak Book" when Larry bought Ted Danson the book "Mondo Freaks" as a gift and he and Jeff proceed to "oh my god" comment about it at the party.

I love Susie and Jeff Greene and Marty Funkhouser.

by Anonymousreply 6November 30, 2010 4:01 AM

Jinx, r5!

by Anonymousreply 7November 30, 2010 4:04 AM

Cheryl becomes a bit more bitchy each season. Sorry, you married the guy, have an assload of money and all you have to do is put up with his quirks. I find that in 80% of confrontations on the show Larry is in the right.

by Anonymousreply 8November 30, 2010 4:06 AM

R7 = FOUR-EYED FUCK!

CARWASH CUNT

by Anonymousreply 9November 30, 2010 4:08 AM

Cram It, Fattie!

by Anonymousreply 10November 30, 2010 4:09 AM

The best episode was with the black prostitute, the ball game, the weed and the commuter lane. The entire show was laugh out loud funny.

by Anonymousreply 11November 30, 2010 4:19 AM

She looked a lot like Jackee from her "227" says

by Anonymousreply 12November 30, 2010 4:24 AM

Yes, R11, that was great. Kim Whitley played Monena the prostitute.

by Anonymousreply 13November 30, 2010 4:25 AM

days*

by Anonymousreply 14November 30, 2010 4:26 AM

I like the "beloved cunt" episode. Also when Larry shoved the head of Sammy Greene's doll down his pants.

Auntie Rae was the best.

by Anonymousreply 15November 30, 2010 4:34 AM

At first, I had a really hard time watching the show since it felt so uncomfortable facing any fear one might have about social faux-pas and embarrassment. Once you get used to it, it's incredibly funny and probably one of the best comedies of the last 10 years or so. My guess is that it's sort of therapy for Larry David that helps him deal with his real life anxieties.

by Anonymousreply 16November 30, 2010 4:35 AM

Whatever the name of the episode was where they all shouted obscenities at Larry's restaurant was double over, can't get your breath funny. OMG.%0D %0D And "beloved cunt" was a gut buster, too. I agree that if you can get into the show, it is hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 17November 30, 2010 4:44 AM

My favorite episode is "The Nanny from Hell" guest-starring Cheri Oteri as Martine. Larry makes a penis faux pas about a child, and a dozen spongecakes come into play.

by Anonymousreply 18November 30, 2010 4:48 AM

Oh, and from this last season, the episode about the little girl and her itchy pussy. The shit that this show gets away with amazes me.

by Anonymousreply 19November 30, 2010 4:51 AM

The series is proof that Larry David was the important creative force behind "Seinfeld". Jerry Seinfeld himself is painfully unfunny.

by Anonymousreply 20November 30, 2010 5:16 AM

I have to agree with you r20 and I was surprised actually with the revelation that David was the real talent in the whole Seinfeld production. Not one of them has been involved with anything remotely as successful since, other that LD.

by Anonymousreply 21November 30, 2010 5:22 AM

Agreed, R20. Seinfeld was the weak link in the show. The rest of the cast made the show. I don't think I ever saw an episode where Jerry didn't break character by smiling when he wasn't supposed to. Horrible actor. Larry is the reason Jerry has money.

by Anonymousreply 22November 30, 2010 5:23 AM

The scene where Larry stabs Ben Stiller in the eye with a skewer fulfilled one of my fantasies. Thank you, Larry.

by Anonymousreply 23November 30, 2010 5:29 AM

For all the fans, esp. r16: one of the funniest things I've ever heard on the radio was an interview with Cheryl Hines talking about Larry David. She is the classic Fall Guy. By just plainly stating thinks that she has seen him do or say in real life is as good or better than one of the best episodes. It was on NPR (Teri Gross?) over 4 years ago. Sorry -too lazy to look for a proper link.

by Anonymousreply 24November 30, 2010 5:52 AM

Cheryl Hines' freaky, generic plastic surgery gets to me. Wikipedia has her age at 45, but I'd guess she's actually in her early fifties.

I liked the episode where Larry thought he was inviting two Holocaust survivors to dinner. Instead he got a cranky old Holocaust survivor and Colby from "Survivor," who then proceeded to argue over who had it worse.

The episode where he tried to sneak a bottled water into a movie screening and the little girl hugged him and thought it was his erect penis -- so wrong. And so fucking funny.

by Anonymousreply 25November 30, 2010 6:03 AM

"Curb" was good back in the day, but it needs to end already.

by Anonymousreply 26November 30, 2010 6:17 AM

I avoided this show for years, just like I avoided Seinfeld. I find that the public usually doesn't have good judgment when it comes to television. While that is generally the case, I was wrong about both Curb and Seinfeld. Curb can be hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 27November 30, 2010 7:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 29November 30, 2010 11:45 PM

Used to love Curb a few years ago but haven't seen it since Season 5 for no real reason. Are the following seasons any good? I think I'll start watching from Season 6.%0D %0D Anyhow nice to see some love for the show here. I remember being at a Sex and the City last episode of the season party way back when and when SatC went off and Curb started all the queens hissed and moaned about how they "hate that show". I thought I was the only gay male who appreciated it (and found it far funnier than SJP & Co.).

by Anonymousreply 30December 1, 2010 12:02 AM

Totally disagree R26. I thought season 7 was one of the best. How can you not love Catherine O'Hara as Bam Bam Funkhouser?

by Anonymousreply 31December 1, 2010 12:04 AM

"Gimme the head, Larry! Gimme the fuckin 'ead!"%0D %0D The doll episode still leaves me peeing.

by Anonymousreply 32December 1, 2010 12:50 AM

"if she's so gifted, how come she doesn't know that a doll's hair doesn't grow back?"

by Anonymousreply 33December 1, 2010 12:57 AM

I love the show. It always makes me feel better for some reason. I love Larry's obsession with Doctors and how they always manage to make you feel ripped off. The weak link to me is Cheryl. I wish Larry had married Susie instead. Now that would be a perfect match!

by Anonymousreply 34December 1, 2010 2:12 AM

"It's vanilla!! What do you think it tastes like? It tastes like VANILLA!!!!"

by Anonymousreply 35December 1, 2010 2:34 AM

Love the one where he picks up the hooker so that he can drive in the HOV lane LOL...

by Anonymousreply 36December 1, 2010 2:41 AM

I can't wait for the new season to start. I love the show. Love Larry.

The preview featuring Michael J. Fox looked funny.

by Anonymousreply 37December 1, 2010 2:51 AM

It gets too repetitive. I'm bored of it now.

by Anonymousreply 38December 1, 2010 3:01 AM

I actually like Cheryl's "Alright . . .okay . .."

I find myself doing that when people get worked up. It drives them even more crazy.

by Anonymousreply 39December 1, 2010 3:03 AM

I love Curb and LD. I also really like Cheryl and think you are supposed to like her because she put up with Larry for so long.%0D %0D Every one of her gripes with him was right on. She endured and was put upon for many years. I'm happy she took him back even though it breaks with Real Larry David.

by Anonymousreply 40December 1, 2010 3:09 AM

r26, season 7 was one of the best. I did think season 6 it was kinda jumping the shark with the Blacks but it delivered the next season. Cannot wait for more.

Crazy eyes Killah...best episode ever

Has anyone seen the new episode tonight?

by Anonymousreply 43July 11, 2011 3:11 AM

Welcome back "Curb" Great new episode, off to a good start. Jewish lawyers, tampons and Girl Guide cookies... same shtick, but after such a long wait, it was great to have them back.

by Anonymousreply 44July 11, 2011 3:28 AM

Very nice episode. The period was squirm-inducingly funny.

Susie was back in form. Jeff Garlin looks like he's gaining the weight back.

Can't wait for the Michael J. Fox episode. The only clip they showed was an appalled security guard asking Larry, "Were you making fun of MICHAEL J. FOX?"

by Anonymousreply 45July 11, 2011 3:32 AM

One of my best friends, who is Jewish, hates it and says it should be called "That Horrible Jew" because it reinforces so many anti-Semitic stereotypes (i.e. that Jews are pushy, selfish, stingy, self-obsessed, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 46July 11, 2011 3:33 AM

Funniest show ever!

by Anonymousreply 47July 11, 2011 3:50 AM

What is there not to love on this show? LD simply says out loud what the rest of us post anonymously on DL every day...

by Anonymousreply 48July 11, 2011 4:42 AM

My fave is when Larry was late to a baseball game and picked up a hooker so he could ride in the HOV lane. And then she wouldn't leave him when he tried to get rid of her.

What in the hell is up with "Super Dave's" face? Did he have cancer? There is no other excuse for him to look so freaky. His "eyebrows." His skin. He's hideous.

by Anonymousreply 53July 11, 2011 5:26 AM

Krazee-Eyez Killa is played by Vanessa Williams' brother, Christopher. Handsome.

You do know this is how the average older straight man really behaves. It's like they have retardation around social behavior. A kind of high functioning Aspergers. This is why many straight women seek the company of gay men.

Funny episode.

R46 I'm Jewish and Larry David's character is an amped up version of most of my male relatives. The show makes me cry with laughter.

By the way, I think Larry is more of a schlimazel than anything, meaning someone without luck. He gets blamed for lots of things that aren't really his fault. The fact that he can't let anything go is what makes him an asshole. He has to keep pursuing the argument until everyone around him wants to kill him.

by Anonymousreply 63July 11, 2011 12:15 PM

I like the "mulatto" baby doll episode.

by Anonymousreply 64July 11, 2011 12:35 PM

I don't know a soul who watches this show. I have it a try a couple of years back and just couldn't handle Larry David who apparently sees himself as some iconic comedic genius.%0D %0D Then again, those Mob Wives and Jersey Housewives shows are on the air so I guess if that drek can make it to a network, this can do.%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 65July 11, 2011 12:50 PM

R65 Oh go watch Antiques Roadshow and leave us alone.

by Anonymousreply 66July 11, 2011 2:49 PM

I tried to watch it last night but then when he did not know, to just send the girl home, when she got her period. I just lost patience with him. For some reason, he drives me insane. I want to enjoy the show but it's just too much for me.

by Anonymousreply 67July 11, 2011 2:54 PM

I don't know why I can't seperate Larry's crazy behavior from reality but I can't. The show makes me too uncomfortable.

by Anonymousreply 68July 11, 2011 2:57 PM

Rosie O returns this season. She's hilarious with Larry.%0D %0D My favorite episode might be the one where Larry dates the doctor.%0D %0D I love Cheryl, I think she's great with Larry. I hope LD stays single so he can go on more disastrous dates (like the gal in the wheelchair) but I still want Cheryl on the show.

by Anonymousreply 69July 11, 2011 3:00 PM

65 I hated the show and Larry the first couple of episodes then stumbled upon Crazy eyes killer and I've been a huge fan ever since. It's an aquired tasted. 68, really are you the biggest Mary I ever witnessed?

by Anonymousreply 70July 11, 2011 3:03 PM

Yeah, sometimes the absurdity is annoying. I find myself saying, "no one would ever do/say that" a lot when watching it. Those of you who love, love, LOVE that screaming fish-wife Susie, ick. No real man would put up with that yammering shrew for 5 minutes let alone years.

by Anonymousreply 71July 11, 2011 3:08 PM

[quote]I don't know why I can't seperate Larry's crazy behavior from reality but I can't. The show makes me too uncomfortable.

Me too. I have trouble watching an entire episode straight through. I have to catch them in snippets when they repeat during the week.

by Anonymousreply 72July 11, 2011 3:29 PM

R65, perhaps your attempt at being "above it all" would be taken seriously, if you didn't struggle with literacy.

"Those of you who love, love, LOVE that screaming fish-wife Susie, ick. No real man would put up with that yammering shrew for 5 minutes let alone years."

I take it you've never been to Great Neck.

by Anonymousreply 73July 11, 2011 3:56 PM

He could have slipped the tampon instructions under the door, but of course that's not funny.

I wouldn't be surprised if that actually happened with him and one of his kids.

by Anonymousreply 74July 11, 2011 4:39 PM

I wonder how many viewers looked at the actress's crotch for a stain when she said she just got her period.

by Anonymousreply 75July 11, 2011 4:48 PM

Yes R69 Wendy Wheelchair and Diana Handicap was a hilarious episode.

So was Lime(?) disease episode - the part where Larry weighs up whether or not he should tell the guy about it. One hand he grins at the funeral, other hand he gets Cheryl back.

This show is very clever. Love that it's back on again!

by Anonymousreply 76July 11, 2011 5:05 PM

I love the music. It reminds me of an old silent movie. When Larry is driving in the Prius the music could be something out of a Buster Keaton movie.

by Anonymousreply 77July 11, 2011 8:42 PM

The show's soundtrack consists of Italian library music from the 50s and 60s, r77.

by Anonymousreply 78July 11, 2011 8:50 PM

Remember when Larry goes to an incest survivors group and says he had sex with his uncle?

by Anonymousreply 79July 11, 2011 9:20 PM

I have the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" theme as the ringtone for when my parents call me. It puts me in the right frame of mind for the ridiculousness to follow when I pick up.

by Anonymousreply 80July 11, 2011 10:11 PM

I remember hearing the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme song on a commercial for a bank several years ago. I think that's where they got it.

Super Dave does look odd and his voice is very peculiar, but I think he's funny. I loved that moment when Susie Essman told her hubby what the consequences would be if he tried to divorce her and all the conversation at the table came to a screeching halt. The tampon thing was uncomfortable to watch but still hilarious. Larry just came out and said the N-word like it was nothing last night. That was weird to me.

by Anonymousreply 81July 11, 2011 10:21 PM

The theme reminds me of the old Dick Van Dyke show theme.

by Anonymousreply 82July 11, 2011 10:48 PM

R18, that was my favorite episode too - that and the previous episode which sort of was like a two-parter. Between the two episodes, there was the crazy nanny, the argument over who created the Cobb Salad, the little kid with the huge penis, the disagreement as to whether Richard Lewis came up with the expression "The (blank) from Hell," the sponge cakes, "No, Hoouuuggghhh!" - and IIRC, the bathroom that doesn't have a lock on it.%0D %0D Curb is my all-time favorite tv show, but last night's sequence with the tampon made me squirm. But on the other hand, there WAS that worthwhile final punchline involving Larry's bloody nose. (I love how a lot of the episode come full circle like that.)

by Anonymousreply 83July 11, 2011 11:54 PM

The show is hit or miss and the last two seasons have been more miss than hit, yet I still have great affection for the show. That Larry is so incredibly small about every little thing, that his relatives and closest friends are viewed so equivocally (at best) makes Larry one of the great anti-heros and a source of great entertainment.%0D %0D It often is downright stupid, and yet wildly funny: the early episode "The Doll" (I think it was called), the restaurant opening with the best outburst of "you carwash cunt" profanity ever on TV, Larry attacking the woman who has to try a sample and fawn over ever flavor of ice cream in the shop before settling on vanilla...

by Anonymousreply 84July 12, 2011 12:54 AM

The one with Rob Corddry as the new neighbor with the great driving range in his backyard was great. Corddry is a really nice guy and well-liked... until the neighbors find out he served time for child molestation. But Larry can't stay away from the great driving range, so he has to sneak over to play golf with the child molester.

Why does Leon still live with Larry?

by Anonymousreply 87July 12, 2011 7:39 AM

I'm not sure how they do it, but somehow they make the simple act of Larry driving his Prius hysterically funny. My partner and I were both laughing when they showed him zooming across town to try to get to his lawyer's office before the papers were signed.

by Anonymousreply 88July 12, 2011 12:52 PM

I have a terrible memory, so I was confused with episode one. I thought he and Cheryl were already divorced and didn't he end up married to the black woman whose brother still lives in his house?

by Anonymousreply 89July 12, 2011 1:56 PM

"What in the hell is up with "Super Dave's" face? Did he have cancer? There is no other excuse for him to look so freaky. His "eyebrows." His skin. He's hideous."

Super Dave has looked this way for awhile now.

I remember, it must have been about 12 or more years ago, I was channel surfing one night and noticed he was on Letterman. I was really shocked at how bizarre he looked. I just chalked it off to extremely bad plastic surgery, but he might have been in an accident.

by Anonymousreply 90July 12, 2011 2:10 PM

Bad eyelift + virtually nonexistent eyebrows = freaky looking.

by Anonymousreply 91July 12, 2011 2:21 PM

[quote] I have a terrible memory, so I was confused with episode one. I thought he and Cheryl were already divorced and didn't he end up married to the black woman whose brother still lives in his house?

I don't remember either. Anyone?

by Anonymousreply 92July 12, 2011 3:36 PM

The black woman got cancer, and Lar decided he didn't care for her anymore. Went out of his way to make her leave him. The family left too except for the brother who stayed. Realised he wanted Cheryl back, so he created the Seinfeld reunion with the intent on hiring her as George's wife to win her over again.

by Anonymousreply 93July 12, 2011 3:53 PM

Now I remember. I guess he and Cheryl never officially divorced, and he never married Vivica Fox's character, they just had a relationship.

by Anonymousreply 94July 12, 2011 4:00 PM

The "black woman" was Vivica Fox, ladies.

by Anonymousreply 95July 12, 2011 4:02 PM

If I actually knew a woman like Suzy, I would think of a way to kill her...LORD! What a wretch!

by Anonymousreply 96July 12, 2011 4:13 PM

Yes...I was really confused because I really thought Larry and Cheryl were already divorced.

by Anonymousreply 97July 12, 2011 4:16 PM

If Leon is a personal assisstant, he is a failure at that job...he doesn't even have a dog to walk...what's his point?

by Anonymousreply 98July 12, 2011 4:17 PM

Super Dave? Must be Botox or Parkinson's Disease.

by Anonymousreply 99July 12, 2011 4:19 PM

Personally, I feel that the actor that plays Leon,in real life, keeps Larry David amused w/ his unintended Stepin Fetchit shtick, which is why LD keeps him on. He's essentially playing himself.%0D %0D Wanda Sykes on the other hand is brilliant.

That woman was Moon Zappa!

I saw tonight's episode a few hours ago, I don't know, I think Larry needs someone to call him on his non-stop bullshit because he's starting to get tedious.

He's surround by too many sycophants, someone like Cheryl was needed.

At least Susie is there to call him on his non-stop bullshit, she minces no words telling Larry was an asshole he is.

He is starting to get on my nerves with how he basically treats everyone, he's was too entitled, obnoxious and annoying.

by Anonymousreply 112August 1, 2011 10:01 AM

I'm catching up with Curb Your Enthusiasm on my dvr and it's consistently hilarious...I love this show. I especially love Susie and her filthy mouth.

by Anonymousreply 113August 18, 2011 11:46 PM

I miss Cheryl, too. I think that's what's off this season.

by Anonymousreply 114August 19, 2011 12:10 AM

He needs to create a role for Fiona Shaw.

by Anonymousreply 115August 22, 2011 8:19 PM

Larry's schtick is based on antagonism between characters which results in comedic tension, so Cheryl has to be antagonistic to Larry in order for there to be comedic tension between the Cheryl and Larry, OP.

In case you haven't noticed, none of the characters are likable. They all lie and cheat and engage in petty hypocrisies. That's where the comedy comes from.

by Anonymousreply 116August 22, 2011 8:35 PM

Larry getting dumped by the bi woman because he was "juicing" was pretty damn funny.

by Anonymousreply 119August 24, 2011 4:49 PM

OMG this season has been killer so far. I have laughed my ass off several times, but did any of you see the one where Larry and Jeff go to the Palestinian place to eat and then he stands up to his Jewish family, citing his right to eat there? HILARIOUS.%0D %0D Funniest part - Larry fucking the Palestinian waitress and she's screaming at him "FUCK ME! FUCK ME YOU FILTHY FUCKING JEW!" %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 120August 24, 2011 4:51 PM

Susie orgasm scene tonight ... epic.

by Anonymousreply 121September 5, 2011 8:45 AM

Larry's not attractive in the least, he's a real schlub and ultra annoying on top of all his other flaws. It's clear from this show, the only reason people tolerate Larry is because he's a very wealthy man.

What's with the double standard that the handsome guy with the telescope invention was married to that fat female from "The Sopranos"? I've forgotten the actress' name.

It is because Larry is wealthy and he knows wealthy unattractive men traditionally have good looking wives?

Then there was the whole "integrity" aspect of this episode.

It was also clear the bisexual woman, who was dating Larry and Rosie O'Donnell at the same time, was using Rosie because she was rich and famous, but wasn't that also why she was dating Larry? Neither Larry or Rosie are hot attractive people, but they are both extremely rich.

It was a really weird episode. It was obvious and kind of stupid, though I always enjoy the black comedian/actor J.B. Smoove.

by Anonymousreply 122September 5, 2011 10:54 PM

Aida Turturro, R122.

Personally, I think the schlubby rich guy with the hot wife/girlfriend hardly needs explaining. You can't go a half of block in LA or NYC (presumably the only worlds David really knows) without seeing one of these couples. You may not like it, but that's how it is.

by Anonymousreply 123September 5, 2011 11:23 PM

"Personally, I think the schlubby rich guy with the hot wife/girlfriend hardly needs explaining. You can't go a half of block in LA or NYC (presumably the only worlds David really knows) without seeing one of these couples. You may not like it, but that's how it is."

I guess my point was, we didn't need to see an entire episode about it.

I couldn't stand the way Larry was constantly judging all the attractive guy's wives, especially as he is so fug himself.

Mariska's real life husband played the guy with the picture of his homely wife on his desk.

Who knows why so many hot men have homely wives, ever think these attractive men married a wealthy woman and they are the trophy husband?!

I just found the episode tiresome more than anything else.

I love Aida Turturro and thought she was hilarious in this episode, but the point was like beating a dead horse.

by Anonymousreply 124September 6, 2011 12:11 AM

Point taken.

I love Aida Turturro, too. Why isn't she popping up on more shows? Or is she and I'm just not watching the right shows?

by Anonymousreply 125September 6, 2011 12:21 AM

The most recent episode with the baseball and sex theme is the best one in a long long time. I won't give it away by saying who appears on it.

by Anonymousreply 126September 6, 2011 12:41 AM

"The most recent episode with the baseball and sex theme is the best one in a long long time. I won't give it away by saying who appears on it."

Wasn't that the episode we've been discussing in the last few posts...?!!?!!

by Anonymousreply 127September 6, 2011 1:46 AM

R122/R124 - The episode you're discussing was last week's. The baseball episode was on last night.

by Anonymousreply 128September 6, 2011 1:50 AM

You're right R128 I watched two episodes of Curb last night on HBO OnDemand, starting at around 11PM. The new episode was over at that point.

I missed last night's show, I was watching "Inspector Lewis" on Masterpiece Theater. It was the first episode of the new season and I didn't want to miss it, I never remember when PBS repeats their shows. PBS doesn't have an OnDemand channel.

by Anonymousreply 129September 6, 2011 3:25 AM

Bill Buckner was hilarious! I love him.

by Anonymousreply 130September 7, 2011 2:24 AM

The Susie orgasm scene with poor Larry, grossed-out and trying not to throw up in the car, was hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 131September 7, 2011 2:48 AM

Yeah, it was a fun episode, although I cringed more than Larry did during the scene with Susie in the front seat of his car.%0D %0D BTW Buckner would be more attractive if he dyed his hair a little.

by Anonymousreply 132September 7, 2011 2:48 AM

Something about that you-know-what being thrown from the window and bouncing into the air had me pissing myself. For a silly sight-gag, I thought it was hysterical. (And check out the facial expression they imposed on it when it's caught. Fucking riot!)

by Anonymousreply 133September 7, 2011 3:01 AM

God, I had no idea what Mariska's husband looked like, but I remember thinking in the scene with the second business manager that if I were Larry I'd be pegging the guy as gay rather than a truly decent soul

by Anonymousreply 134September 7, 2011 3:07 AM

I misted up at that scene R133. It was nice to see a redemption for him.

by Anonymousreply 135September 7, 2011 3:18 AM

[quote]I misted up at that scene [R133].

Mary!

by Anonymousreply 136September 7, 2011 3:37 AM

Eh, I just had a baby of my own.

by Anonymousreply 137September 7, 2011 3:44 AM

Susie's orgasm was more like she was in severe pain from explosive diarrhea!

If the scenario wasn't already set that the passenger side of Larry's car was causing women to have orgasms I wouldn't have thought Susie was having one.

The guy from Tavi's (sp) car repair service was Robert Smigel, the guy does Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog. I recognized his voice immediately when they were playing baseball. He was basically doing Triumph's voice.

When people call Larry on his shit and scream at him, I find that fantastic and very satisfying. Larry is a real schmuck who gets away with too much nonsense because he's wealthy.

I wish Ana Gayster was given a chance to be funnier, she didn't have much to do.

by Anonymousreply 138September 7, 2011 7:57 PM

Ana Gasteyer is so fucking talented she should be much more famous.

by Anonymousreply 139September 7, 2011 9:09 PM

Did anyone watch it tonight?

by Anonymousreply 140September 12, 2011 2:26 AM

Yes. It was a MASTERPIECE.

by Anonymousreply 141September 12, 2011 3:01 AM

The little kid playing the future DL poster was too good to be true. Hysterical!!!

by Anonymousreply 142September 12, 2011 3:18 AM

I just couldn't figure out where they had found a little boy who could play a flamboyant gay kid so convincingly.

It was a hilarious episode.

by Anonymousreply 143September 12, 2011 3:28 AM

It should have been titled "The Pencil Dialer."

I wanted Michael J. Fox to offer Larry a Pepsi Free.

by Anonymousreply 144September 12, 2011 4:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 145September 12, 2011 4:01 AM

[quote]The little kid playing the future DL poster was too good to be true.%0D %0D I thought the same thing - a Gay Gayerson, Jr. The scene where he gets the first gift from Larry has to be included as one of the great moments from the series - right up there with Carwash Cunt, "You ate the Baby Jesus," Susie's fall onto the spongecakes and "beloved aunt."%0D %0D That kid's scream/squeal of delight was in my head all day.

by Anonymousreply 146September 12, 2011 10:39 PM

I loved that he called the kid "pre-gay". A great capper for a terrific season.

by Anonymousreply 147September 12, 2011 10:45 PM

I enjoy each new episode, but I don't like watching reruns of this program. It's most odd, but I can't stand the second viewing of any of the episodes.

by Anonymousreply 148September 12, 2011 10:58 PM

That kid was hilarious, and when he made the pillowcase for Susie with the, um, "surprise" sewn in the center of it, I was howling.

by Anonymousreply 149September 12, 2011 11:13 PM

"Get a life, Jews!" is my new mantra. My bf and his family are Jewish. Whenever they start the roll call of famous Jeiwh people, or wondering if a celebrity/author/scientist is Jewish, that's what I'm going to say.

by Anonymousreply 150September 15, 2011 8:54 PM

Larry's ongoing feud with Michael J. Fox in that same episode was also hilarious, particularly with Larry being called out for miming the violin during MJF's speech.

by Anonymousreply 151September 15, 2011 11:48 PM

Fantastic episode, stellar season. Love Larry & Co. and I hope his black roomate NEVER leaves!

by Anonymousreply 152September 16, 2011 1:08 AM

Great season. One of the best in my opinion. Only episode I din't like was the "Car periscope". The finale was a masterpiece!

by Anonymousreply 153September 16, 2011 5:12 AM

All of Greg from "Curb Your Enthusiasm".

is Curb ever coming back?

by Anonymousreply 155March 24, 2014 6:53 PM

I love the show, although I agree a lot of it is repetitive.

by Anonymousreply 156March 24, 2014 7:55 PM

Season 9 starts October 1st. Trailer:

I never watched this but just binged through season 1 this week.

It was fine, but I don't love it it. I expected more.

by Anonymousreply 158September 13, 2017 5:54 PM

I can only handle the occasional episode and one at a time.

by Anonymousreply 159September 13, 2017 6:21 PM

The show is a snoozefest and Larry's act gets old rather quick. Susie is a one note character. Her husband is a fat bore.

by Anonymousreply 160September 13, 2017 6:48 PM

The long-awaited return was apparently worth the six-year wait...

One of the best episodes to date! Just hilarious.

R158, S 1 was the worst by far. It took them awhile to get into the groove. Stick with it; it's worth it.

by Anonymousreply 163October 2, 2017 11:51 AM

What episode is this from?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 164October 14, 2018 5:52 AM

you can bump an 8-year-old thread?

by Anonymousreply 165October 14, 2018 6:10 AM

I thought S1 was the best. The rest... I skipped a lot of episodes.

I couldn't force myself to watch the last season. Larry looks like a corpse now.

by Anonymousreply 166October 14, 2018 6:46 AM

[quote] Cheryl becomes a bit more bitchy each season. Sorry, you married the guy, have an assload of money and all you have to do is put up with his quirks. I find that in 80% of confrontations on the show Larry is in the right.

I've never watched the series but it sounds like he is basing this on his actual home life. His wife Laurie dumped him for a married republican neighbor. She had used Larry's money to finance Al Gore's global warming movie. Larry said when the divorce had gone through he went home and turned on all the lights.

by Anonymousreply 167October 14, 2018 7:16 AM

I adore this show and think it is the funniest I have ever seen. Can't wait for S10 to begin!

by Anonymousreply 168October 14, 2018 7:48 AM

The recent season was AWFUL.

He needs his wife, Cheryl, to play off.

Too much about this old man's sex life. Eeek!

by Anonymousreply 169October 14, 2018 8:30 AM

I'm a big fan of this show, but found it difficult to get past the third episode of the most recent episode. It felt really dated and repetitive, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 170October 14, 2018 8:47 AM

Still planning to get back to it, though.

by Anonymousreply 171October 14, 2018 8:47 AM

It's done. SO ovah!
