Viggo Mortensen
He's one of my favorite actors, and seems like a very cool person off-screen, as well.
That's why I was kinda surprised that he didn't participate in the Lord of the Rings reunion, for Entertainment Weekly.
Is he pissed at Peter Jackson, or has he just decided to "move on".
Anyone have some scoop?

Viggo was a last minute replacement on LOTR
Stuart Townsend (Charlize Theron's ex) actually had the part. After the table read, he was fired and left New Zealand within 24 hours. TPTB felt he wasn't right for the part after the initial read.
Flash forward to 2004 Stuart has to sit in the front row at the Oscars and watch LOTR win Oscar after Oscar after Oscar including Best Picture & Best Director. He was there to support Charlize who won Best Actress that night.
It must of been painful.

Viggo Mortensen with Maria Bello was one of the hottest couples i have ever seen beyond the screen and the sex scene in 'History of Violence' was too INTENSE and SENSATIONAL

The three best movies that Viggo has appeared except for the trilogy of 'The Lord of The Rings' in my opinion are:
The Reflecting Skin
A History of Violence
The Portrait of a Lady
Which are the best movies that Viggo took part in your opinion, guys...(leave out the 'Lord of the Rings')

I was a contract database manager on. a project with Viggo's brother. I don't have much but apparently, it was Viggo's son who persuaded him to audition for LOTR, and I gathered he (Viggo) would have let the chance to audition go if not for his son's fascination with the trilogy. And so far, Viggo's favorite of his films is Hidalgo.

I liked him both in A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and EASTERN PROMISES (HOV and EP for R8). In the latter one he and Vincent Cassel (VC for R8) had great chemistry.

To the poster who amazingly seems not to know: TPTB = the powers that be. Used on any number of threads.
To the poster who asked what other films of Viggo's people like, I would say A Perfect Murder was pretty good (yes, I know; Gwyneth!)

Viggo if you managed to keep a relationship, you would be PERFECT. I wonder why a man like him can't be with a woman for the rest of his life? What a pity.
Viggo, Viggo, Viggo!

OMFG, r15 I love you!
The Reflecting Skin is one of my all time favourite movies. I'm surprised anyone even remembers it, it was so weird (in a good way).
The rumour in one of the great, nuked gossip threads was that he was the sub in an BDSM relationship with David Cronenberg.
I thought it was odd, but who knows.
I'd love to see him work more with Cronenberg; he's hit and miss, but when his films hit, they are great.

He is too hot and sexy to be true! I was drooling when I saw him in LOTR. Viggo as Aragorn is the hottest and smexiest character in LOTR by far!! Legolas is is too girly for my taste but Aragorn is a total hunk and so manly! He has that rugged, brooding and mysterious and his dirty and wet look makes him so attractive and sexy! I could have Viggo spread on a bread. :))

Townsend wasn't fired after the initial read. They'd started filming, and there were scenes that needed to be re-shot.

TWO! Count 'em two scruffy, bearded Viggoes for the price of one in the Argentinian thriller "Everyone Has a Plan"/"Todos Tenemos Un Plan" (2012). He speaks in his own Rioplatense Spanish, which he learned as a schoolboy.
On Amazon Prime now.

He was sensational in "28 Days." He could have coasted through his role as a baseball player in a 28 day rehab facililty, but he ran with it and made a huge impression on me. Plus, he was able to take stupid lines and inhabit them with his talent and make them funny or dramatic. He was my next husband for ten minutes (joke).
There's a practically silent scene where the rehab people go on a day field trip. They travel in a yellow school bus that stops for gas. Two young boys are with their father at the gas station and see Viggo and are on the point of running up to him and asking for an autograph. The dad looks at the the name of the rehab centre on the side of the bus and stops the two sons. There's no diaglogue. It's really emotional to watch the reaction of Viggo's face. I think that scene required talent and superlative direction to get the point across.
