Joan Collins

will never go out of style.

by Anonymousreply 13802/28/2014

She may not, but unfortunately that thing she's wearing went out around the time of the Moldovian massacre.

by Anonymousreply 106/17/2010

She looks amazing for 77!

by Anonymousreply 206/17/2010

Where is she, Upsom Downs?

by Anonymousreply 306/17/2010

Yeah, I thought that too but she still looks great.

by Anonymousreply 406/17/2010

Good Lord, Joan's looking more and more like the Queen Mum these days.

by Anonymousreply 506/17/2010

I think she looks fabulous. You go Ms. Joan.

by Anonymousreply 606/17/2010

Amazing what self-confidence and self-promotion can accomplish these days. One might say she looks almost to the manner born.

by Anonymousreply 706/17/2010

Is she on top of the new trend of wide puffed sleeves, or did she wear them from the eighties till now?

by Anonymousreply 806/17/2010

She's boring and stupid, a one trick pony.

by Anonymousreply 906/17/2010

Did she had an one night stand with co-star Oliver Tobias? (The Stud)

What do you think or what do you know?

Joan Collins met Marilyn Monroe at the beginning of her career, and the blond diva warned her over the dark side of Hollywood.

The encounter occurred at Gene Kelly's house, but Collins was far from impressed by Monroe's looks. She, now aged 62, recalls:

"I went to the bar and there was this kind of ordinary-looking girl sitting there. Nothing to write home about. Pretty, with blue eyes, but you had to look closely to see that she was really pretty. She asked me what I was doing and I said I had just signed a film contract. She warned, 'Be careful, there are wolves out there.' And I said, 'Ok, but there are wolves in London too.'"

Hey guys...

Well, i saw 'Fear in the Night' the other day and i'm making subtitles for it for a friend who happens to be a fan of Joan Collins and a lover of Hammer Colection. I'm not English, so i need some of your help. It won't take long, i swear! All you have to do is look at the link and help me to find out some words that i miss.

First Question-In time 43:06 of this video Peggy(Judy Geeson) says to Molly(Joan Collins):'You must come and have tea with us soon, as soon as i get the cottage....' (What does she say? I can't get it)

Second Question-In time 43:433 Robert(Ralph Bates) says to Peggy 'When Michael goes, he says...' (What does he say, complete his sentence please)

Third Question-In time 44:17, Peggy after asking Robert if he finds Molly attractive and then he replies her she says:'Good. Do you...?' (Complete her sentence, please)

Fourth Question-In time 1:14:28, Molly says to Robert:'Our way is beginning to look a little...' (Complete her sentence, please)

Last Question-In time 1:15:10, Molly says to Robert:'What is she going to do and say when you find Michae's body and....' (Molly obviously finishes her sentence with 'to the police' but what does she say before that? I need the verb. Thanks...)

Guys, this is a really gripping movie and i want to make this present to my buddy. So please, don't troll and if you can help, help. THANK YOU!

My favorite Joan Collins story is when she called out Streisand for being cheap.Streisand would ask for half price on certain paintings by the most renown painters. Joan Collins bitchily said:'I'm only half Jewish!"

R10 She did those two slutty films, The Bitch and Stud, at the time for money. As far as I've heard her then husband and manager Ron Kass was on the set of both films. She looked like she fucked Tobias and half the world in those films BUT she didn't.Part of the plot of the bitch was that she stuck a diamond in her cunt! So she was definitely doing camp before Dynasty......

Lol, campy indeed R19!

R15 Joan truly is a miserable bitch. She said Marilyn Monroe was ordinary looking, she said James Dean wasn't good looking - and what the fuck is she? A beauty queen? She seems really jealous of a lot of people - especially people from her era that had huge careers, unlike herself.

by Anonymousreply 2204/15/2013

One of Joan's most traumatic affairs was with the tall, witty and very married film director George Englund.

The relationship, in her days as a rising star, when she was 24 and he was 31, screwed her up so much that she went to see a psychoanalyst five times a week.

Joan and Englund were friends to start with until one night they found themselves staying alone in the same New York hotel and went to bed together. Joan was instantly smitten.

Englund often promised to leave his wife and marry her, but he kept making excuses and it never happened.

Joan forgave him when she discovered he had another mistress, but she could not accept that he and his wife were still sleeping together.

One night, suspicious, she drove past the couple's house and was furious to see them undressing and going to bed together, even though he had promised her they slept in separate rooms. Then he told her that his wife was pregnant again (they already had three sons).

Joan was incensed, hurled a bottle of vodka and an ashtray at him, and shrieked: "That's my baby she's having. It should be mine! It's mine!"

She took revenge in the best way she knew.

Zsa Zsa Gabor had told her that Rafael Trujillo Jr, the incredibly rich 24-year-old son of the vicious dictator of the Dominican Republic, had been lusting after Joan for ages, and he was renowned for showering his girlfriends with lavish presents.

He had given Zsa Zsa a Mercedes convertible and a full-length chinchilla coat worth £28,000 in modern terms, and he had given a Mercedes to another actress mistress, Kim Novak.

The mercenary Zsa Zsa suggested an assignation with the man she called by his nickname, Ramfis, telling Joan: "It might be worth your while."

"Joan's reply," she later wrote, "was: "I only want to meet him if he gives me a beautiful present."

"Tactfully, I relayed the message to Ramfis, who said: "Okay, if she wants something, call up Van Cleef and Arpels and order a diamond necklace for her."

"I obliged."

Joan flew from California to meet Trujillo in Florida - more than 3,000 miles for a one-night stand.

He turned out to be a smooth, dark Latin, not especially handsome and married with six children.

Moored off Palm Beach, they ate a magnificent dinner on his 350ft yacht, eating off gold dishes with gold cutlery, and afterwards they danced.

Then, although Joan did not pretend to any particular affection or even lust for him, she went to bed with him. "Afterward," wrote Zsa Zsa, "I asked Ramfis if he had had fun with Joan. "I picked her up in my yacht in Miami," he said tersely.

"She was so boring that I put her ashore in Palm Beach"

"I said nothing, having quickly come to the conclusion that the clever Miss Collins had probably taken the diamond necklace and then proceeded to make herself appear to be so boring that she didn't have to do anything with Ramfis afterward."

Joan's own version of the story was that she did indeed sleep with Trujillo but did not receive the necklace until she returned to New York the next day.

She claimed that she had wanted to return the bauble but was persuaded by Zsa Zsa and others that Trujillo would be insulted if she did, and that in any case a diamond necklace was nothing to a man as rich as he.

According to her own autobiography, George Englund's response to this action was to describe her as "worse than a street corner tart".

Warren Beatty was wild about Joan Collins. He was enthusiastic about his relationship with her beyond anything he had sampled before. As Warren's friend Verne O'Hara put it, "Sex drives Joan. She was besotted with him. And he was besotted with her." He defended her acting ability constantly, with his fists if necessary. He also used her for his own ends; suggesting she leave the set of a British adaptation of Sons and Lovers as the cast left for England because the publicity she attracted was more useful to him by his side. She was something in Hollywood, and that was what he wanted to be.

For her part, she was devoted to him, and he even bought an engagement ring for her, a gold beacon surrounded by emeralds and diamonds. In January of 1959, they moved into a tiny studio apartment in the Chateau Marmont. At 22, Beatty was a veritable ball of energy, utilizing his photographic memory for phone numbers to make hundreds of calls a day in between fucks. He resisted proposing to Collins because he simply could not get cast. It was Elia Kazan putting him in the William Inge, Kansas-set morality play Splendor in the Grass that began his career better than lhis sideshow act with Collins ever could. Right before his first day on the set of Splendor, Collins became pregnant, and aborted the child quietly so as not to alert the press. The next day production began. When Beatty faltered opposite his celebrated costar, Kazan said, "Pretend it's Joan, Warren."

Beatty was so incredibly into himself that he began weight-training during the production to make sure he looked his best onscreen. When teenage girls around the production noticed megastars Collins and Wood but not him, Warren righted the wrong by arranging for another group to giggle loudly during his scenes. Eventually Joan Collins had to go to Rome to shoot Raoul Walsh's Esther and the King, and while she was there Beatty became convinced she was unfaithful to him. Although he and Collins were still engaged, they had already called off a planned wedding and were continents apart. He went after Julie Newmar in Rome without success and sought consolation with the daughter of Actors Studio founder Lee Strasberg, Susan, in Rome. He had sex with her continuously, notably in Luchino Visconti's bathroom. (Visconti was older, gay and loved Beatty.)When Beatty returned to Los Angeles, his relationship with Collins consisted largely of fighting and fucking. She eventually ended it when she saw he would not.

by Anonymousreply 2404/16/2013

By her own admission, Joan Collins "went out with zillions and zillions of men" during her days as a young star in Hollywood.

"Were you unfaithful?" Joan was once asked by the comedienne Ruby Wax. "Yes," she replied, "but only on location. I used to say: 'It doesn't count on location.' Everybody was having a little fling. I don't suffer very much from guilt."

Joan and Beatty became obsessed with each other and spent every possible minute together. Her friends thought she was mad: he was poor, unknown, unemployed, and maybe using her to further his career. But she was determined to follow her heart.

Beatty moved in with her and she revelled in having at last a deep, stable, long-lasting love affair. Just four months after meeting, they were already planning to marry.

To many onlookers they seemed a perfect couple. "She was really right for him," said Beatty's friend Verne O'Hara. "Sex drives Joan. She was besotted with him. And he was besotted with her."

But then came a serious complication. Joan discovered she was pregnant. Warren was appalled. Joan said she would like to keep the baby, but he was immovable: a baby now could sabotage his entire career just as it was taking off. He persuaded her to have an abortion.

This was illegal in 1960, but, through one of his friends, they found a doctor in Newark, New Jersey, who was prepared to do it. Joan was terrified but they flew to New York, drove to Newark and she went through with it.

That May, Joan turned 27, and perhaps out of guilt for making her have an abortion, Warren decided that they should become officially engaged.

"I feel like having some chopped liver," he told her one afternoon and when she took the carton out of the fridge there, hidden in the meat, was a gold, diamond and pearl engagement ring.

They announced that they planned to marry in January the following year, and Joan flew off to Rome to make the film Esther And The King.

Their time apart, however, was punctuated by anxiety and mutual suspicion that the other was having an affair.

Slowly, their love was beginning to sour. Even Joan was starting to tire of Warren's incessant demands for sex.

In 1961, she accompanied Beatty to London for the filming of The Roman Spring Of Mrs Stone, in which he was to co-star with the legendary but neurotic Vivien Leigh.

Joan was suspicious about Beatty's closeness to the 47-year-old Leigh but uncertain whether they actually became lovers until one of his later girlfriends, the singer Madonna, reported years later that he had admitted it.

At the time, all she knew was that the relationship was in trouble. She admitted that part of the problem was that she was no longer prepared to be subservient to a man and was sometimes too aggressive towards Beatty, who, being insecure, became belligerent in return.

The death blow was dealt when Beatty began a passionate affair with Natalie Wood, his co-star in the film Splendour In The Grass, and the wife of Joan's great friend Robert Wagner.

Joan was determined to hang on to him for as long as possible. But when Natalie rented a house up in the hills at Bel Air and everyone knew that Warren was visiting her there regularly, even she realised that it was time to end the affair.

Being dumped by Beatty still rankled with Joan nearly half a century later, and when she was asked last year if it was really true that they had made love seven times a day she raised an eyebrow and purred: "Maybe he did, but I just lay there."

In 1957, Robert Wagner had to go off to Japan to make a movie with well-known maneater Joan Collins as his leading lady. Natalie Wood, when she learned about that got terribly upset. Finally, Wagner convinced her that he was going to Japan solely to make a movie and that there would be no hanky-panky. The fact that he was taking his parents along on the trip and that'd be sharing a hotel suite with him seemed to indicate that he wouldd have little time for anything but work and occasional sightseeing. Her anger forgotten, Natalie decided to see Robert Wagner off at Los Angeles Airport. Joan Collins arrived only seconds before departure time, arm in arm with her lover, Nicky Hilton, son of hotel tycoon Conrad Hilton. Natalie hoped that Hilton was accompanying Collins to Japan, but it turned out otherwise. Making sure that Collins was watching, Natalie gave Wagner a searing farewell kiss.

Natalie's most frequent escort turn out to be Nicky Hilton. Friends thought it was simply a matter of two people keeping each other company while their true loves, Robert Wagner and Joan Collins were out of town. But it quickly developed into an affair.

However, by the time Wagner's sojourn ended, Natalie had come to her senses and dropped Nicky Hilton. She discovered that underneath the suave facade, Hilton was a very unbalanced man who drank too much, despised Jews and 'niggers', and was well on his way to becoming a drug addict. The biggest turnoff, however, was a telephone call that Natalie received from Elizabeth Taylor. Now very happily married to producer Michael Todd and expecting a baby, Taylor felt obliged to warn Natalie of what could happen if she became Mrs.Nicky Hilton. For all his faults, Hilton was also a wife beater, Taylor claimed, citing an incident when he punched her to have a miscarriage. Although Taylor knew Wagner only slightly, she considered him a decent sort, a man who unlike Hilton, genuinely loved women and would make a good husband. 'You two were made for each other', Taylor told Natalie. 'You better grab him before somebody else does.'

Natalie and Robert Wagner picked up where they had left off as soon as he returned from Japan. So did Collins and Nicky Hilton. However, back then, there were also other rumors going on. Supposedly Natalie lost Hilton because Joan Collins was more sexually experienced and could 'out-woman' her at every turn.

Never mind that, Natalie's real reason for breaking with Nicky Hilton was that she caught on to his dangerous proclivities. Collins eventually did too, as they broke it off some time later.

All the above are excerpts from the book 'Natalie and R.J.: The Star-Crossed Love Affair of Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner'

Natalie Wood had just started 'Kings Go Forth', when 20th Century Fox sent Robert Wagner, on a cross-country publicity tour in connection with the release of 'Stopover Tokyo'(the film he made with Joan Collins). Realizing that R.J.(Robert Wagner) had as little control over his career then as she did, Natalie resigned herself to the fact that Joan Collins again would be traveling with R.J, chaperoned of course, by press agents. As it turned out, Natalie had nothing to worry about in the way of romantic competition. Collins by this time had dropped Nicky Hilton for a clandestine affair with producer and director George Englund, husband of actress Cloris Leachman.

Down below: George Englund while he was on the set of 'The Ugly American'(1963) directing Marlon Brando. He is the guy with the cloth cap, sitting next to Brando. I couldn't find any photos of him with Collins...

Who is this hasbeen C List television star to comment on the likes of Newman, Monroe and James Dean? Where would she see them in her B Movies? Joan just never was a movie star.

by Anonymousreply 2804/16/2013

In Robert Wagner's autobiography, 'Pieces of My Life', he writes:

'As she began work on West Side Story, Natalie was under huge pressure. Her career was approaching white heat; mine was no more than lukewarm.

My insecurities mounted, as did our disagreements. We argued. We made up. We argued again.

In June 1961, we got into a terrible row. The yelling ascended to screaming, culminating in Natalie running home to her parents. That week we announced a trial separation.

Then Warren came into the picture.

That summer, when I read about them as the hot young couple around town, I wanted to kill that son of a bitch. Life magazine was calling Beatty 'the most exciting American male in movies'. My last four or five pictures had been flops.

I was hanging around outside his house with a gun, hoping he would walk out. I not only wanted to kill him, I was prepared to kill him.

Everything was coming to an end - my marriage, my career, the life I had built. I remember thinking that if I couldn't kill Beatty, maybe I should kill myself.

It was either flip out or flip the page: I chose the latter, deciding to go to Europe. It was an easy decision because Hollywood was falling apart while wonderful pictures were being made in Europe.

I set up shop in London but all the time I was still in love with Natalie.

Every person has a favourite lover, who transforms their life. For me, it was Natalie. Nevertheless, I had to face reality. Natalie filed for divorce in April 1962 and it was granted that same month. There were signs that the clouds were lifting at least as far as my career was concerned. I made a movie with the young Steve McQueen and was offered a part in The Longest Day, the D-Day epic. And I renewed my acquaintance with Joan Collins, whom I'd dated before.

I actually introduced Joan to Tony Newley, whom she eventually married. We had gone to see Stop The World, I Want To Get Off, which Tony wrote and in which he starred, and that brought Joan and me to a screeching halt.

I asked her to go to Rome with me but she didn't want to because she didn't like flying - and she wanted to be with Tony. So I went on my own and met Marion Marshall in Rome.'(Marion Marshall would be soon after that, Robert Wagner's second wife)

I don't think this is him, R27. But the caption says it is?:

"[Brando], chatting with Cary Grant, while sometimes date Joan Collins and best friend/business associate George Englund look on."

Joan was a stunning beauty in her day.

Looool R28, my lovely Elizabeth!

Well, Joan Collins didn't play in masterpieces, it 's true, but still i discovered that she played in a number of interesting movies. Even her campy ones are fun because she managed to wear those roles well. With her glamour and her style, she manages to keep the attention. Being vocal, she has said a lot of things, so it's very easy for someone to criticize her. Actually, i find a lot of her statements hilarious, my point of view is different from hers, but yet she has said some things that it was good to be said. Being open, being exposed, trying and having an appetite for life are the things that i appreciate about her. She seems faulty and insecure, but yet she is still willing to make something out of it and that's not a crime. It's like a play...

She is not one of my favourites, but i like reading stuff about her. She is fun and i think crazy!!!

by Anonymousreply 3104/16/2013

Ew, I think she's bizarre. An insanely tarted up, lacquered, has been, semi-actress who looks like a kabuki mask! I can't believe she has ever been taken seriously. To me, she's a British Mamie Van Dooren

by Anonymousreply 3204/16/2013

R30. Yes the caption said that he is George Englund, but he also looks like George Englund! Doesn't he? If you look of some other photos of Englund you will see the similarity anyway.

Down below, i send you another photo of George Englund, maybe that will take all your doubts away...hehe! It is him with his wife Cloris Leachman.

And yes! Joan Collins was enchanting back then, however i prefer her when she is older (especially in her 40's).

by Anonymousreply 3304/16/2013

Joan is a supporter of socialized medicine.

by Anonymousreply 3404/16/2013

Loool R32 well, now you are unfair. She is more than dear Mamie Van Doren. Come on!

R30, i forgot to thank you for your photo. I had seen that one before, but i hadn't noticed that the lady next to Marlon was Joan Collins. And yes, you are right! That guy next to her is George Englund. You found a photo with the two of them, you are damn right!

Too bad about that funky English nose to top lip ratio that Kate Winslet and Elizabeth Hurley suffer from as well.

by Anonymousreply 3604/16/2013

Who the fuck is Joan Collins? Must be an American thing. Never heard of her.

by Anonymousreply 3704/16/2013

Lol guys, you are so nasty some of you!

Joan Collins said in one of her recent interviews:

”I never thought I was good-looking at 18. Looking back, I realise that I was.

I do wish I had known, because beauty is power. Youth and beauty are incredibly powerful. I did not realise how lucky I was to be young, beautiful and in Hollywood.

When I was 17 or 18, I was voted by a British photographers’ association as The Most Beautiful Girl In England, or something like that. I was thrilled.

My father was asked: “What do you think?” He said: “I am amazed. She’s a nice-looking girl but nothing special.” That is the way myself and younger sister Jackie (best selling novelist Jackie Collins) were brought up — we were “nothing special”.

by Anonymousreply 3804/16/2013

My parents never said they loved me, reveals 'emotional' Joan Collins

Her mother Elsa was a dance teacher and nightclub hostess while her father Joseph was a showbusiness agent whose clients included The Beatles, Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones.

Read the article down below...

by Anonymousreply 3904/16/2013

What makes a home for you?

Joan Collins:I need comfort, so I like cushions, flowers and candles and my own sheets and cashmere rug. I don’t travel light and I bring a lot of my own things – pictures of my husband, family, grandchildren and friends. I usually move the furniture around when I’m in a hotel and put stronger light bulbs in so I can read properly and bring books and magazines. I try to make it look as much like home as possible.

You’ve often been quoted as saying you are great at spending money; what do you enjoy buying most?

Joan Collins:I seem unable to save money. The things I really enjoy buying are not what I can afford to buy at present. I have a lot of personal commitments and I have also the upkeep of several houses; I like to invest in houses and furniture. Actually I would say I’ve got enough furniture now, so I concentrate on buying clothes. I do like fashion very much.

by Anonymousreply 4004/16/2013

R31 that was a little in-joke as supposedly Elizabeth said that while working with Joan and the equally fabulous Shirley MacLaine(?) on some recent TV show, she said she just wasn't a movie star and they clashed.

More likely it was for some publicity and a leaked "source says" quote for some gossip rag, but fabulous nonetheless!

I liked the trashtastic The Bitch and The Stud, those were the Alexis precursors and were sold as such on VHS in the 80s.

I'm curious though - how did Joan get into RADA? She must be about the least RADA actress who ever attended. Her looks no doubt helped.

Here is her latest commercial that's still playing in the UK. Kind of embarrassing, but scary she hasn't changed.

I don't remember Stephanie Beacham in it, they've since made it shorter. You'd have to be 100 years old to get that reference anyway so maybe that's why. I see these are just a copy of the Aretha/Liza ones.

by Anonymousreply 4104/16/2013

R41, oh, i had no idea about this joke of Elizabeth, interesting...

Now, you asked me how Joan get into RADA. I found this article for you:

Joan Collins Biography – School

At the age of twelve, Joan persuaded her parents to let her board at a theatrical school in Hertfordshire. Upon her arrival, however, she begged her parents to let her return home, because of the strict discipline of the school which she could not bear. Her mother was relieved to have her back, while her father made sure that she stayed several weeks before taking her back home.

Later, Joan attended the Francis Holland School at Clarence Gate, which was few blocks away from their flat. Her teachers remembered her as a very clever little girl, a bit naughty, but in an amusing way. The headmistress, charmed by Joan’s personality, often said that Joan was a true actress. Joan Collins Biography – RADA and the first steps on stage

On her sixteenth birthday, Joan announced to her parents that she wanted to become an actress. Her father tried to persuade her that her choice was wrong: acting can be short-lived and it can hurt. His last argument was to convince her about importance of studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. What Joe Collins did not expect was that his daughter would pass the entrance exam and would become one of the most successful students of RADA.

She combined her studies with modeling work, posing for women’s magazines, performing small parts in a summer time and helping backstage.

Her father, Joe Collins helped Joan to get a listing as an actress in the casting directory. This was the last time that he represented his daughter, as he never believed in representing his own children. In the later years, Joan would often seek his advice at the important turns of her life and her career. His judgment would be delivered with all his knowledge and encouragement.

by Anonymousreply 4204/16/2013

R41, i love Snickers by the way. Well, yes the commercial is somehow embarrassing, but i find it cute that a lady of her age did that kind of a commercial.

Joan Collins was never in style.

by Anonymousreply 4704/17/2013

by Anonymousreply 4804/17/2013

She went out of style right between the pet rock and the lava lamp.

Joan is actually an excellent actress who found a nice and rode it. I saw her in some stage work in her 'off' years and she can be extraordinary.

by Anonymousreply 5004/17/2013

She is in no rational universe "an excellent actress." My god, most of the time she's barely competent.

And frankly, she's never seemed particularly bright. Even her cattiness isn't very clever.

by Anonymousreply 5104/17/2013

Should read niche.

...and yes she is excellent but there is little evidence of it as she instead chose a character and played it to the hilt.

by Anonymousreply 5204/17/2013

If she chose to live out a character rather than act one in her projects, where is your evidence that she's excellent?

It's fine to be devoted to an ancient camp icon, but silly to puff up her reputation with nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 5304/17/2013

R53 when her career was in the shits she did theatre, live theatre, excellent theatre. Then she played in the Bitch and Stud and her niche was born.

by Anonymousreply 5404/17/2013

She gives the same sort of performance on Dynasty that Streep gives in "Devil Wears Prada."

But the freaks swoon all over Streep because she an approved Great Actress.

I have to agree with R50, R51. Within her niche (bitchy, glamorous woman) she does excel. Of course she's no Streep. But she is always watchable, even with awful material.

Omg R62! Is this woman indeed 80?

She seems so much younger. Good for her!

Bravo Joan!

by Anonymousreply 6404/23/2013

Indeed. She looks wonderful, for her age:

by Anonymousreply 6504/23/2013

That's great!

Tony Curtis in his autobiography 'American Prince' writes about working in the tv series 'The Persuaders!' with Joan Collins:

'Joan's bizarre behavior made her rather difficult to work with. In one scene, we're supposed to drive a little truck a couple of hundred yards to where the camera had been set up; then i'd stop the truck and we'd both get out. When the time came to to do the shot, the assistant director waved a flag, which was my signal to start driving, but Joan said,'Don't go yet. Please. I'm not ready. Let me get into the mood.' I leaned out and shouted, 'She's not ready.'

Joan started fixing her makeup in the side-view mirror. I waited and waited. Every now and then i'd look over at her. She kept fiddling with her face. Finally i lost my temper. 'Joan, will you stop acting like a cunt? Let's go get this shot, and then we can break for lunch.'

She said,'What did you say? You called me a cunt!' I said, 'I'm sorry Joan, but can we please go?' The assistant director waved the flag, and i drove to my mark. When i stopped, Joan leaned out the window of the truck and screamed,'He called me a cunt!' She leaped out of the truck and said, 'I'm going home!'

Going home? i thought. You're lucky to be working. She stalked off to her trailer. The producer Bob Baker, said to me, 'Tony, you've got to do something about Joan.'

'What do you want me to do?' i said. 'I apologized in the track!'

Bob sent a runner to go buy some flowers, then he brought them to me and said, 'Take these to her.'

I went to Joan's trailer and knocked, and she opened the door. I said, 'Here, Joan, these are for you. I'm really sorry i said what i did. I got nervous when we were doing the shot. Please forgive me.'

'Well, that's alright', she said. 'I forgive you.' She closed the door, and i whispered under my breath, 'You cunt.'

After the episode wrapped, i called Lew Grade and said, 'Any more episodes with Joan Collins, and you'd better get somebody else to do them, because i won't work with her again.'

Wonderful story, R67.

If only they got Mitzi Gaynor to play Taylor's role in "These Old Broads":

by Anonymousreply 6805/06/2013

Lol, R68, i know this movie, but unfortunately i haven't seen it yet. Seeing that scene makes me want to see it now! So cool, so cute!

I love Elizabeth though! I like all these ladies, but i'm not very warm towards Shirley MacLaine.

Nice scene!

by Anonymousreply 6905/06/2013

Tony Curtis was a huge ASSHOLE!

I read his autobiography and it's amazing how flippant a man like him could be!

by Anonymousreply 7005/07/2013

Another fabulous Sable vs. Alexis scene.

That final season of Dynasty had some of the BEST writing it had ever had.

Makes you wish Linda Evans had never been hired and Sable would have married Blake.

by Anonymousreply 7105/07/2013
I love Elizabeth though! I like all these ladies, but i'm not very warm towards Shirley MacLaine.

I can't warm to MacLaine either, but I only say it because Taylor's performance was so bad, (and in a way quite sad). She seems to be in a haze of painkillers, unaware of where she is. Ideally, Taylor would be in better health and MacLaine would instead be Gaynor.
That final season of Dynasty had some of the BEST writing it had ever had.

Indeed. The last season of "Dynasty" was wonderful. It was amazing what a turnaround that show did for it's final season.

"[italic]Oh, dear. It's not sinking in is it?[/italic]"

R71 what a 'hot' scene! I love Joan's accent. So sexy! English accent can be a quirk aphrodisiac at times. Pretty!

Haha, what a crazy scene!

Thanks for posting, guys.

by Anonymousreply 7305/07/2013

Yeah, nice stuff!

by Anonymousreply 7405/07/2013

R67, i wonder if Joan mentions this incident with Curtis in her autobiography.

by Anonymousreply 7505/07/2013

R17 are you still here? I want to help but I don't have a premium account and can't watch the movie.

Is it closed captioned? If that playback option is featured, I sometimes use that to read what has been said in shows & movies.

by Anonymousreply 7605/07/2013

She made it sound like Warren Beatty was hot to marry her in her autobiography.

by Anonymousreply 7705/07/2013

"Why don't you look at it a little closer, Herb."

by Anonymousreply 7805/15/2013

Mrs Addams!

by Anonymousreply 7905/15/2013

Hint, she has. Nobody knows who she is without google,

by Anonymousreply 8005/15/2013

R80 = Linda Evans.

by Anonymousreply 8105/15/2013

R76, thanks but i made that project finally. I improvised a bit in those parts but i think that i got the gist of it so i managed to make a rather good job. Thank you again, for replying though.

Angela Lansbury, Dana Wynters and Joan Collins performed "It's Great Not to be Nominated" at the 1959 Oscars. I'd love to see the full clip, alas a mere photo:

by Anonymousreply 8305/22/2013

Joan, looking casual:

by Anonymousreply 8405/22/2013

If only they panned the camera down:

by Anonymousreply 8505/22/2013

Happy 80th birthday, Joan Collins:

Poor man's Liz Taylor and she has a weird mouth.

by Anonymousreply 8705/23/2013
Poor man's Liz Taylor and she has a weird mouth.

"Weird mouth"? What's odd about it?

by Anonymousreply 8805/23/2013

Oh, happy birthday beautiful Joan!

Cheers lady!

by Anonymousreply 8905/23/2013

I like a lot this photo of Joan.

by Anonymousreply 9005/23/2013

R90's photo is probably the closest she's ever looked to Jackie.

by Anonymousreply 9105/23/2013

When I went through initial "stewardess" training 30 years ago we flew training flights on the week-ends. There was a funny black guy in my class who had Joan on his flight. When he recognized her in first class he excitingly exclaimed, "Oh my gawd, you're Alexis from Dynasty". Joan lowered her sum-glasses, looked up at Harold and said, "Darling it's Di-nas-ty" in her British accent. He said she was very charming.

by Anonymousreply 9205/23/2013

Same mouth like Elizabeth Hurley and Heather Mills. Nose to top lip ratio. It's an English trait.

by Anonymousreply 9305/23/2013
Same mouth like Elizabeth Hurley and Heather Mills. Nose to top lip ratio. It's an English trait.

Collins and Mills both have normal looking mouths to me. Hurley did too, but she got fillers. Is the ratio off somehow?

by Anonymousreply 9405/23/2013

Liz Hurley is yummy anyway. Beautiful woman, slut or not.

by Anonymousreply 9505/23/2013

I forgot to add that i love this English accent that both Joan Collins and Elizabeth Hurley have.

Now, i wonder if Liz is the kind of woman that could make a gay man want her. What do you think, guys?

by Anonymousreply 9605/23/2013

[all posts by tedious troll removed.]

by Anonymousreply 9705/23/2013

Joan seems to have a craziness in her that can be adorable, if you are not against her already, and if you don't hate coquettish women.

Happy birthday once more, Miss Collins

by Anonymousreply 9805/23/2013

Is she still alive? Or do they just prop her up all the time with a drink in her hand to make her appear that she is, like in "Weekend at Bernie's"?

by Anonymousreply 9905/23/2013

R97, that's true.

R99, aka Linda Evans, please, it's not the right day to be mean. It's Joan's birthday. Could you kindly shut up?

by Anonymousreply 10005/23/2013

I can't believe Donna Mills will be 73 this year.
Joan Collins is one of the last truly glamorous women.

I genuinely will be sad when she dies. She is one of the last glamorous, Old Hollywood stars.

by Anonymousreply 10105/23/2013

The thing I always have given Joan Collins credit for is that she knows exactly who she is. She's just an old tart but she knows that. She has no illusions whatsoever that she's a great actress.

by Anonymousreply 10205/23/2013

I read Cloris Leachman's memoirs and George Englund must have been some catch. Leachman played her cards right. She knew Collins had no "substance" and that George preferred women with an opinion on things. He could never really let her go. And who would you rather spend your old age with?

Cloris: "George and I may get a divorce, not from each other, but from our marriage ... Our marriage is in such tatters that we think maybe we should get a divorce from it and get married again. Or perhaps we should get a divorce and adopt each other. Basically, though, our relationship is in good shape. Please say that George is a knockout guy."

George: "To me, we had five kids. That's a huge piece of the continent of your life. The divorce was the end of the social aspect of it, but not the feeling and regard and care I have for her."

by Anonymousreply 10305/23/2013

Why, you are so sure that Joan Collins has no substance? Just because she is psychotic about her looks, that doesn't mean that she is an empty vessel, does it?

by Anonymousreply 10405/23/2013

"I wanted Diahann Carroll":

by Anonymousreply 10505/23/2013

I don't know R104. To me, Cloris Leachman and Joan Collins are not in the same league. I've read both memoirs. Joan is definitely, I wouldn't say an "empty" vessel ... let's just say the glass is half full.

by Anonymousreply 10605/23/2013
And who would you rather spend your old age with?

Joan Collins. Is this based on the assumption that beauty fades, and Leachman didn't have beauty to fade? Though, hopefully after a certain point looks don't matter to your husband.

by Anonymousreply 10705/23/2013

Hmm, ok then, R106. I haven't read any of them, so i guess i can't contradict you with arguments. I just wondered, that's all. Anyway, i love memoirs, i would love to read those you mention and find out what you mean.

by Anonymousreply 10805/23/2013

Joan's full "Cleopatra" screen-test used to be on YouTube, alas it's gone:

by Anonymousreply 10905/23/2013

Leachman was a beauty contest winner and had one of the killer bodies in Hollywood. The personality was an added bonus.

by Anonymousreply 11105/23/2013

One of her fans said she was overheard saying to someone the poor should be sterilised - she's a major Tory and I imagine attended Thatcher's funeral?

Apparently in her biography she says she never took a penny from the state, which isn't true as she was on benefits at one point apparently.

by Anonymousreply 11205/23/2013
One of her fans said she was overheard saying to someone the poor should be sterilised - she's a major Tory and I imagine attended Thatcher's funeral?

She is a Tory and there are many pictures of her at Thatcher's funeral.
Apparently in her biography she says she never took a penny from the state, which isn't true as she was on benefits at one point apparently.

She claimed welfare in the US.

by Anonymousreply 11305/23/2013

Do you guys think she is a great beauty? I never thought so. Her eyes and eyebrows were are a little too far spaced to me.

by Anonymousreply 11405/23/2013

Ah, r113.. maybe one of those technicalities where she could say that if she just meant the UK. I didn't hear of her at Thatch's funeral, I knew Shirley Bassey among others.

by Anonymousreply 11505/23/2013
Do you guys think she is a great beauty? I never thought so. Her eyes and eyebrows were are a little too far spaced to me.

Yes, I think she was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

This isn't head-on, but I think it's one of her best:

by Anonymousreply 11605/23/2013

Linda, was there any sexual tension between your fight scenes with Joan?

by Anonymousreply 11705/23/2013

I think she looked better older from what I've seen. She was so sexy in Dynasty.

by Anonymousreply 11805/23/2013

Yes, her looks moved in funny ways. She looked stunning in "Dynasty"'s second season:

by Anonymousreply 11905/23/2013

R96, see that long ass gap between nose and top lip? It's an English trait. Exclusively English. In news articles I can tell a Brit face from this slight deformity. Kate Winslet has it the worst and when she smiles, it ruins her. I lived there for a semester and could always spot the English women in a multiethnic crowd by the weird mouth thing they have going on.

by Anonymousreply 12005/23/2013

I think Joan's lip to nose ration is fine.
Kate Winslet has it the worst and when she smiles, it ruins her.

Oh, yes, her smile is awful. She does look British. But, that's more due to it's curvature than it's proximity to her nose. She looks like she's always smelt something bad.

by Anonymousreply 12105/23/2013
Hmm, ok then, [R106]. I haven't read any of them, so i guess i can't contradict you with arguments. I just wondered, that's all. Anyway, i love memoirs, i would love to read those you mention and find out what you mean.

Now I feel bad, like I've dashed your dreams of Joan Collins overall perfection. Collins just didn't have very good taste in men, if they were single. (Newley and Beatty excepted.) Look at Ron Kass. And who was that Swedish guy she married who sued her for alimony and picketed her house?

by Anonymousreply 12205/23/2013

Helen Mirren also suffers:

by Anonymousreply 12305/23/2013

I agree about Kate looking like something is smells rotten but I still think she is gorgeous and more beautiful than Joan at her best.

by Anonymousreply 12405/23/2013
I agree about Kate looking like something is smells rotten but I still think she is gorgeous and more beautiful than Joan at her best.

Who knew Kate Winslet posted on DataLounge?

by Anonymousreply 12505/23/2013

R122, lol, no worries, i don't think that anybody is perfect at all, it's impossible even if it's desirable. Well, Joan is not my favourite as it comes to looks at least, but still, she has been a very beautiful woman and a very sexy one (especially in her late thirties and in her forties and fifties.) She is also wonderful, wonderful for her age.

by Anonymousreply 12605/23/2013

I agree R126. She is a beautiful lady. And she completely energized Dynasty when she arrived "on the stand" in that episode. People watched the show because of her. I just don't understand her ethics. She screws married men and then gets mad when she sneaks over and sees husband (Geo.) and wife (Cloris) getting into bed together. She's the mistress jealous of the wife. Crazy.

by Anonymousreply 12705/23/2013

Does Joan still have sex at her age?

by Anonymousreply 12805/24/2013

Helen Mirren is at least half Russian too.

by Anonymousreply 12905/24/2013

What must Joan's life have been like in the fifties/ early sixties? Having sex with many men, jet-setting, starring in movies, looking beautiful, being glamorous, mingling with superstars.

by Anonymousreply 13005/24/2013

Warren Beatty? He was so pretty but just TOO exhausting in the bedroom: In a wickedly indiscreet memoir JOAN COLLINS lays bare her love life

by Anonymousreply 13110/14/2013

You ain't Joan Collins OP. And neither is anyone you know.

by Anonymousreply 13210/14/2013

She and Andie McDowell have the same exact weird eyebrows.

by Anonymousreply 13310/14/2013

She is 80 years old nowdays, right?

by Anonymousreply 13412/30/2013

How is she doing with her hubby?

by Anonymousreply 13501/29/2014

Joan Collins on the set of 'The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone' with her boyfriend Warren Beatty and Vivien Leigh...

by Anonymousreply 13602/25/2014

I always loved her in the White Diamonds commercial.

by Anonymousreply 13702/25/2014

Joan Collins, i'm tired fuckin' bitch.
