Rupert Everett, of course, has freely admitted prostituting when he was younger. We know Steven Antin (of THE GOONIES) used to be Joey Stefano's keptboy, and that Ted casblanca was Bruce Vilanch's when he was young. There are many rumors Robert Gant from QAF used to be a WeHo kept boy before he made it (sort of) big as an actor.
Former kept boys and male prostitutes

Jean Genet was a prostitute, and wrote about it.

Interesting Wikipedia about Steven Antin. I never knew any of that. I'm kind of looking forward to Burlesque (which he's directing). Why do you think he was a kept boy? It says he dated David Geffen for a year (and introduced him to Mom). Was that the "kept" situation or where there others?

You're right, r2: Antin was only attracted to David Geffen because David was such a hunky dreamboat and because the two of them had so much in common

Fascinating interview with Joey Stefano. Was he the most gorgeous porn star ever?? He had such an innocent quality about him, and not some egomaniacal and arrogant personality that one might expect from such a beautiful guy. Seriously, what a waste. I could do without the creepy narrator, though.

Robert Gant has a J.D. from Georgetown University, arguably one of the best, and certainly one of the most exclusive law schools in the world. He began his legal career at Clifford Chance, an international law firm of staggering proportions.
I am certain his starting salary was at least 200K 20 years ago.

I was a kept boy in my late 20's, early 30's. At first, it seemed very flattering that someone would find me attractive enough to just pay for everything and take me to many, many wonderful places. He was/is in the design field in Paris and had really exquisite taste and liked beautiful things. Then I realized that I was just another exotic possession for him. He made all the decisions and everything revolved around his schedule.
I really loved him, still do, but I feel liberated in living my own life and going my own way.

I find it hard to believe that Joey Stefano ever had enough money to keep himself, much less anyone else. The boy was a drug fiend and he was certainly not wealthy by any imagination. What money he had went to the dope dealers.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 15, 2010 6:23 PM |
William Ivey Long did not keep Joey Stefano. In fact the only way he could afford Joey Stefano at the time was if a friend or friends paid for it. William put what money he had into real estate, not hustlers. He did have a thing for Joey Stefano and yes JS was gifted to William on a few occasions. What ever you can say about WIL, he is not dumb with money.

It was Sicily in the 1960s. You seriously think he'd still be amongst the living if he was openly hustling guys?
[quote]Wasn't Matt Nye kept by Jann Wenner until they decided Matt could be a fashion designer?
I wouldn't say Nye was "kept" - more like a full-on trophy boyfriend/partner from the get-go. (Certainly Nye used his connections via Wenner to enter the fashion field, however.) "Kept" boys are usually a secret and little more than a prostitute, and are disposed of after a few years. Wenner and Nye have been partnered for 15 years and have three children together (in addition to the three Wenner had with his ex-wife).
[quote]I am certain his starting salary was at least 200K 20 years ago.
That's patently ridiculous. Even today the highest starting salaries for law grads are about $180K, and that's if you went to Harvard or Yale. The average 20 years ago was $85K. Plus, Georgetown's not *that* good a school regardless (currently ranked #14 on the U.S. News list).
[quote]Who did Diller keep?
I met one of Diller's kept men once, and learned details about him via a mutual friend. He was stunningly attractive: Aryan god-like (tall, blond, very muscular), and also extremely sophisticated in areas such as fashion and fine dining. I don't know the exact details of their arrangement, but Diller provided him with a stunning condo and mainly only required his company on holidays. (Obviously Diller does not squire his kept men to events, since he has his, ahem, wife for that purpose.) Diller also didn't mind that he had a full-time, much younger (I think 19 or 20) boyfriend on the side, but Diller made it clear that his own needs took priority. When Diller ended things, he let the guy keep the condo as a parting gift, and also set him up with a senior-level job at one of his companies.

Did I say otherwise, R34? That doesn't mean they pay more. The top-tier firms pay starting associates the same amounts, and if any of them raises the rates, every other top-tier firm follows in lockstep.

[quote]Oh, well, if Georgetown is ONLY currently ranked 14th, then its law school grads must NOT make anywhere near what the TOP schools' grads make.
Sigh. First-year associate salaries are a matter of public record. Harvard & Yale are currently around $180K. Georgetown is around $160K. Google it if you don't believe me. I happen to know all this because my mother is an attorney and managing partner at her firm, and every year brings a new round of complaints about how they'll have to raise salaries yet again to bring in top talent.
R36, it's my understanding that Diller avoids dating or even one-time fucking actors or anyone under his employ out of fear of a lawsuit, either for sexual harassment or "palimony." Ditto David Geffen and the rest of the Velvet Mafia.

Clifford Chance is originally a British firm, but has a big presence internationally. Jones day is based in Ohio and has also grown internationally in recent years. I think the two are about equal in reputation, but well below the ranks of Cravath, Wachtell or Sullivan & Cromwell.

Harold Acton's memoir of Nancy Mitford quotes an amusing letter of hers about some Parisan screamer who had unbuttoned his shirt at a society dinner party in the '50s to expose a ruby tassel running down his back with the words: "not bad for a working girl".
A Room In Chelsea Square, a roman a clef by Michael Nelson about his experience of being kept by Peter Watson, the arts philanthropist, is every entertaining. Watson could be Machiavellian, and it has some great moments.

Associates do not get paid according to what law school they graduated from. The law firms are run pretty much like monopolies. They almost all have the same salary steps within the same city or within the same region. Obviously top law school grads get into the top tier law firms but a first year associate is a first year associate.
Go visit abovethelaw web site and you'll see how petty and stingy BIG LAW can be.
No firm starts their first year associates at $200,000 today (probably not even if you include bonuses) let alone 20 years ago. Twenty years ago maybe $60,000 - $75,000 in the big cities but memory dims. The big law firms can be very creative with fabulous perks however. They may hire you as a higher year associate (e.g., third year) and that would put you higher on the salary/bonus scale.
Do not envy these young graduates. They earn every penny they make while working hellish hours. Of course, I'm not sure there's all that much work nowadays.

To r94, I just graduated from a top 10 law school and the job market is still not good. The salary is at 160,000 annually if you get into big law firms. But what used to be almost 100% employment offer rate now went down to less than 50%, and in recent years not every student (probably also less than 1/2) gets a summer association position. So chances are most people who want a big law job can't get one directly out of law school. Smaller firms or public services do not pay half as good. It really sucks. It wasn't easy to get into a top 10 law school in the first place. Many had good paying jobs before jumping into law school. Additionally, the 160K salary comes with 100K student loan and at least 10 hours billable hours per day. In the end, not a good investment with the current economic situation.

"Al Pacino admit he was a male prostitute in Sicily when he was a starving actor there in his 20s... BUT (and this is the highly unlikely part) he wants us to believe his only clients were older women."
Highly unlikely?
Why?
Straight gigolos abound in areas of Europe where wealthy older women live and vacation, such as Sicily.

Stephen Dorff used to swing shopping bags around Athens, GA that had been stuffed to the brim with money from MICHAEL STIPE!

For 109:
I was in Paris for Christmas vacation after spending a year abroad in Rome. We met at the IDM Baths of all places. We had a great time there and then continued on to his apartment. The next day I checked out of my hotel and spent the rest of my time with him. When my departure day arrived, he actually cried and asked me to stay -- which I did for the next three years.
He was very smart and well-connected in the Paris design world. We went out constantly and I was really just there for him to show off -- most of his friends didn't really talk to me. So, it was exciting to go to all of these nice restaurants and parties, but kind of lonely too.
He changed my outlook on life, my aesthetic, and when I got out on my own and started an art gallery and bought my own home, so much of their concept and collection were an extension of what I learned from him.
So yeah, I was with him because I had a beautiful face and body, with a nice big dick, but I got lots of things â other than money â in return too.

The concept of "kept" isn't necessarily based on age. One partner is wealthy or successful and the other one is not wealthy (and looking for a generous provider) or looking for a chance to get his foot in the buiz.

My father was kept by a very wealthy gentleman while still married to my mother. It was huge scandal in our little New England village. This was in the late 60's and early 70's. My dad moved (during the week only, he came home on weekends) about an hour and half away to a larger city to attend graduate school and ended up living with a very flamboyant character in his very lavish apartment. Meanwhile my mother and all 4 of us kids stayed on the farm. The guy used to come home with my father on the weekends and bring us all presents and take my mother shopping. %0D %0D My parents later divorced and my father came out of the closet. Met someone and was with him for 36 years until he passed away a couple years ago.

My parents never talked about it. My mother acted like she didn't know anything about it at the time. Although, she was having an affair with a co-worker around the same time, so maybe it suited her needs as well. %0D %0D Of course, not being idiots, my siblings and I knew exactly what was going on. I was age 9-11 during this time and was already pretty aware that I definitely liked boys better. So in some ways it helped to know that I wasn't alone although I couldn't imagine that I would ever end up like John - my father's "friend".%0D %0D It was interesting many years later (dad was in his 70's) when I took my dad to see some of his old friends from that city and they told me some pretty wild stories of just how popular my father was during his stay there. %0D %0D He just sat and listened with a goofy grin on his face while they revealed things I never thought I'd know about my father. %0D %0D He was always a very good looking man and apparently had a huge cock and "made the rounds" amongst the fellas there. It wasn't just John who was supporting him(and all of us). %0D %0D Apparently his friends considered me to be another member of the same tribe so nothing was too sacred.

R161 and R163, I think "kept boy" is somewhere in the middle between "prostitute" and "guy with rich lover".%0D %0D I think of prostitutes / escorts as doing everything transaction by transaction, for cash or easily sold gifts - sleep with you for a night, get paid in return.%0D %0D Guys who happen to have rich lovers have a romantic relationship first and foremost (even if the relationship isn't necessarily one of equals), and the career and monetary benefits are secondary to that. In those cases, there'd never be a case where the guy would be "paid" (in money or gifts) in exchange for having sex.%0D %0D Kept boys straddle the two categories. There's a shared underlying understanding that the relationship really isn't romantic. But at the same time, "payment" isn't as straightforward and transactional - it's longer-term, and includes things like favors in addition to gifts and "spending money" (instead of direct payment for sex).

The best kept boy story was told to me by the elderly boy himself. He was kept by a Swedish baron, and used to yacht with the Swedish Royal Family who called him 'The Little Baron'. But the baron had tin mines in South America, and used to go away for months at a time. One night the boy was sitting on the terrace of the chateau "in one of those endless Swedish twilights, when I saw these animals in the estate Park. I called for one of the servants, and said Erik "What are those cattle?" and he said "Those aren't cattle sir. Those are reindeer." I said "Reindeer?!!! I'm 18, beautiful, and rotting in fucking Lapland!" He packed his bags and fled to London the next day. King Umberto of Italy also tried to pick him up on the Lido. "Such a gentleman. I was later formally introduced to him in the Savoy Grill. He said, "I believe young man we have met before." I bowed very low, and said 'Yes, Your Majesty, I believe we have!"

Even if we assume Farrell gave up the nappy dugout for Schumacher and Spacey, which I personally doubt but will roll with for argument's sake, why on *earth* do you think giving him one roll on film and maybe a handful of rolls in the sack equates to him being "kept"? bumping this thread up for important reasons.
Met David Geffen. He's a really nice guy, arrogant and cocky, but he has every reason to be. Amazing penthouse apartment on 5th ave. Seriously one of the most incredible apartments in NYC. He e-mailed me online and when we first started talking I had no idea who he was. After a few e-mail exchanges he said "Google me! My name is David Geffen." He propositioned me and told me he wouldn't mind compensating me for my time. Unfortunately I just couldn't do it-the man is old enough to be my father x2. He told me he was into hot younger guys with big dicks. Also just to inform you(and this is relating to previous comments about the boys he likes)I am not white and I don't have a twink-like body.
But then again I could be making all this up just for the hell of it...so..believe what you want!

R328, "Very few woman pay for sex"
That's not entirely true. I've know a few pro gigolos. Usually they're hired by couples, where the older man will hide in the closet. Or he'll get off by watching in the same room, as the paid escort goes down on her.
More likely it's a reversal of the standard roles. A woman with money wants a fab looking, extremely charming man on her arm, which her looks and or weight and personality would not otherwise enable her to possess.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | August 23, 2014 12:54 AM |
Bullshit, R330. Link to some examples of females outright paying for it (with no involvement of a creepy husband hiding in the closet). It just doesn't happen. Women are nothing like men. They want to be genuinely adored and desired. They'd rather be alone than have to pay someone to pretend.
Even someone like Madonna, or other wealthy, powerful women who date younger men, there is some part of them that knows they're buying love and sex, but their giant egos allow them to fool themselves into thinking they are desired as well.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | August 23, 2014 1:53 AM |
R331, How could I link you to some examples of females paying for men if they're not famous? My former roomie was a professional model, 20's, originally from the Mid West, and extremely charming. He signed up with a Vegas agency that sent men out to entertain ladies and couples for the evening.
I also wrote about Nico Santucci in the Clooney thread. We had an agreement to write a book, "$10,000 a Weekend, The True Story of an American Gigolo." He didn't want to give up his lifestyle, so the book was never completed. His current pics are nothing like he looked when I knew him, by the way.
In Hollywood I attended a talk given by a casting director, and former secretary, of how to get into the business. B.S., said my Latin friend, and former gigolo. She gave me the same offer she gave to (listed the major male and female stars she had helped get careers.) I couldn't "do her" as she was too heavy set and masculine for my taste.
Want more stories?

R333, R334, The very wealthy woman who wants a gigolo, possibly because her boyfriend or husband is cheating and/or has left, won't go to an agency. Neither will the plainer lady with a now successful career, who wants a very attractive escort without having to compete.
Most upscale mistresses make the man look and feel better about himself. Extremely charming men, who are very well groomed, well spoken, even flirtatious, and highly complimentary of everyone no matter how unlikable the person, and who work in jobs catering to elite women, are often in essence part-time gigolos if they're single and straight.
Think of the top salesman at a pricey boutique, or at an expensive shoe store, a successful bartender at a restaurant with a mostly female clientele, a straight hairdresser or masseur, or an employee at a country club. Golf pros, kids' private swimming instructors, or those in the luxury industries also rely on repeat business from wealthy ladies.
The gigolos I've known say it usually starts with a "thank you" lunch in an expensive restaurant, or cocktails after the man's work day. Or perhaps the lady buys him an expensive gift, and then gives him a bigger offer.
If the young gentlemen is very flirtatious, he may get a subtle invitation to escort the lady to a fancy social event, when her ex or her friends are in attendance. Of course the woman will pay for everything, and the savvy man may receive "carfare" after the event. Or she might start buying him appropriate clothes to wear to her events, as a guarantee he'll show.
Seduction, slow dancing at a very formal party, sexual teasing after a few drinks, a shoulder or back massage afterwards, are how it all starts. It's not necessarily penetrative sex. He is there to meet her desires, do things her less physically attractive ex wouldn't do for her in bed. That's after making her look good to her social set, so her friends suggest she invite him to their next party.
Perhaps later on he'll be taken on a luxury trip, after she's covered his loss of wages for the week.

R336, Upscale strip club Sapphires' once offered a comp night to a few ladies, who agreed to be filmed for a Japanese documentary. Sitting in the front row in a low cut, mini/club dress, the very charming, buff blond host gave me a sample lap dance, enticing me to come back for more.
Behind me sat a few very heavy set ladies in their late 20's, more conservatively dressed. After a few of the club's comp specialty drinks, they discussed their bi-monthly visits. Co-workers and bi, their masculine demeanor resulted in constant rejection. Here they could make any dancer do ANYTHING they wanted, behind the curtain in the back of the room. Don't believe women don't pay for sex? Get real.

The number of women who pay for sex is really miniscule. If a large number of women were willing to pay for sex the gay for pay phenomenon would not exist, straight guys could just sell themselves to the ladies.

R342 gay for pay is a myth, if a guy is really hetero/straight he's not going to sell his dick, mouth, or ass to gay and bi men for any amount of cash, and he'll just find other ways to get it instead.
But this is datalounge and many queens here need the "ALL men are bisexual!" fantasy.

About Robert Gant (without engaging in a battle over Georgetown grad salaries):
Having a decent income means you acquire an expensive livelihood and have tons of bills to pay. Switching to a high-risk, low paying career at a young age can be done only if a) you maintain another source of high income on the side b) you abandon your expenses c) you have a trust fund. Gorgeous Gant could have easily opted for a) by choosing to have a "mentor."
So saying that he used to be an expensive lawyer is no argument against the possibility of having been a hooker but if anything, supports the idea.

But what's the line R345 between being a "kept boy" and having an older, wealthier boyfriend that you're actually into? [no idea who Gant's boyfriend was or if he even had one. Just asking. And his real last name is Gonzalez or something equally Hispanic.)
Isn't he with the president of NBC now too? Can't imagine they bring in anywhere close to the same amount of money, though they are close to the same age.

There is more fiction in this old tired thread than in the LA public library system.
So much for the "good old days" of DL, Olds.

[quote] The gigolos I've known say it usually starts with a "thank you" lunch in an expensive restaurant, or cocktails after the man's work day. Or perhaps the lady buys him an expensive gift,
