Former kept boys and male prostitutes

Rupert Everett, of course, has freely admitted prostituting when he was younger. We know Steven Antin (of THE GOONIES) used to be Joey Stefano's keptboy, and that Ted casblanca was Bruce Vilanch's when he was young. There are many rumors Robert Gant from QAF used to be a WeHo kept boy before he made it (sort of) big as an actor.

by Anonymousreply 353April 9, 2019 10:09 PM

Jean Genet was a prostitute, and wrote about it.

by Anonymousreply 1April 14, 2010 12:46 AM

Interesting Wikipedia about Steven Antin. I never knew any of that. I'm kind of looking forward to Burlesque (which he's directing). Why do you think he was a kept boy? It says he dated David Geffen for a year (and introduced him to Mom). Was that the "kept" situation or where there others?

by Anonymousreply 2April 14, 2010 12:47 AM

Oh sorry OP. I misread about Joey Stefano. Interesting story.

by Anonymousreply 3April 14, 2010 12:49 AM

You're right, r2: Antin was only attracted to David Geffen because David was such a hunky dreamboat and because the two of them had so much in common

by Anonymousreply 4April 14, 2010 12:50 AM

Al Pacino Aaron Carter, but I dont think he's a former yet.

by Anonymousreply 5April 14, 2010 12:50 AM

[quote]We know Steven Antin (of THE GOONIES) used to be Joey Stefano's keptboy

Are you sure you don't want to revise that sentence?

by Anonymousreply 6April 14, 2010 12:54 AM

Fascinating interview with Joey Stefano. Was he the most gorgeous porn star ever?? He had such an innocent quality about him, and not some egomaniacal and arrogant personality that one might expect from such a beautiful guy. Seriously, what a waste. I could do without the creepy narrator, though.

J. Depp was N. Cage's "delivery boy"

Didn't B. Willis also have a blue collar home visit job?

by Anonymousreply 8April 14, 2010 12:55 AM

Sorry: I meant David Geffen's keptboy, not Joey Stefano's. (genuinely hangs head in shame)

by Anonymousreply 9April 14, 2010 12:58 AM

More about Johnny Depp and Nick Cage!

by Anonymousreply 10April 14, 2010 2:32 AM

I wish I was pretty enough to be kept. I'm really over this whole 'work' thing.

by Anonymousreply 11April 14, 2010 2:35 AM

More on Pacino.

by Anonymousreply 12April 14, 2010 2:43 AM

I was never cute enough to be kept, but now I have money so I keep one of my own. No games, no false pretense, it just is what it is.

by Anonymousreply 13April 14, 2010 2:52 AM

Wasn't Tom Cruise a gay mafia boy toy?

by Anonymousreply 14April 14, 2010 3:02 AM

[quote] There are many rumors Robert Gant from QAF used to be a WeHo kept boy before he made it (sort of) big as an actor.

Gant was an attorney before switching to acting.

by Anonymousreply 16April 14, 2010 3:14 AM

Joey Stefano was kept by William Ivey Long.

Robert Mitchum certainly hustled - he fucked Clifton Webb for a time.

Alain Delon was kept by Visconti.

by Anonymousreply 17April 14, 2010 3:18 AM

James Dean was the kept boy of some director. Forget his name.

by Anonymousreply 18April 14, 2010 3:21 AM

r16, he didn't make it big instantly after leaving the law. It took him a while to get good work. In that period, he (supposedly) was kept by a rich boyfriend. Or so rumor has had it on DL.

by Anonymousreply 19April 14, 2010 3:22 AM

Johnny Depp and Nick Cage? Never heard that one before. Nick is 1 yr older than Johnny, isn't the kept 'boy' significantly younger than their trick?

by Anonymousreply 20April 14, 2010 3:29 AM

Really, you can't just throw out the name "Al Pacino" and leave us hanging!

by Anonymousreply 21April 14, 2010 3:34 AM

Al Pacino admit he was a male prostitute in Sicily when he was a starving actor there in his 20s... BUT (and this is the highly unlikely part) he wants us to believe his only clients were older women.

Wasn't Matt Nye kept by Jann Wenner until they decided Matt could be a fashion designer?

by Anonymousreply 23April 14, 2010 4:44 AM

R22, it wasn't only women. Pacino probably should have kept his mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 24April 15, 2010 5:18 PM

Robert Gant has a J.D. from Georgetown University, arguably one of the best, and certainly one of the most exclusive law schools in the world. He began his legal career at Clifford Chance, an international law firm of staggering proportions.

I am certain his starting salary was at least 200K 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 25April 15, 2010 5:34 PM

I was a kept boy in my late 20's, early 30's. At first, it seemed very flattering that someone would find me attractive enough to just pay for everything and take me to many, many wonderful places. He was/is in the design field in Paris and had really exquisite taste and liked beautiful things. Then I realized that I was just another exotic possession for him. He made all the decisions and everything revolved around his schedule.

I really loved him, still do, but I feel liberated in living my own life and going my own way.

by Anonymousreply 26April 15, 2010 5:35 PM

Hey when I was younger and cuter and someone older and not too bad looking wanted to buy me shiny things just to suck my cock, who am I to say no! Why give away what cha can sell!!!

by Anonymousreply 27April 15, 2010 5:44 PM

Who did Diller keep?

by Anonymousreply 28April 15, 2010 5:58 PM

I find it hard to believe that Joey Stefano ever had enough money to keep himself, much less anyone else. The boy was a drug fiend and he was certainly not wealthy by any imagination. What money he had went to the dope dealers.

by Anonymousreply 29April 15, 2010 6:23 PM

William Ivey Long did not keep Joey Stefano. In fact the only way he could afford Joey Stefano at the time was if a friend or friends paid for it. William put what money he had into real estate, not hustlers. He did have a thing for Joey Stefano and yes JS was gifted to William on a few occasions. What ever you can say about WIL, he is not dumb with money.

by Anonymousreply 30April 15, 2010 6:40 PM

Exactly, R29. And I don't ever remember him seeming at all innocent. Trashy bottom, more like it, but innocent? No.

by Anonymousreply 31April 15, 2010 6:40 PM

Thanks for that, Jude. What an earth shattering revelation.

by Anonymousreply 32April 15, 2010 6:41 PM

[quote]Al Pacino admit he was a male prostitute in Sicily when he was a starving actor there in his 20s... BUT (and this is the highly unlikely part) he wants us to believe his only clients were older women.

It was Sicily in the 1960s. You seriously think he'd still be amongst the living if he was openly hustling guys?

[quote]Wasn't Matt Nye kept by Jann Wenner until they decided Matt could be a fashion designer?

I wouldn't say Nye was "kept" - more like a full-on trophy boyfriend/partner from the get-go. (Certainly Nye used his connections via Wenner to enter the fashion field, however.) "Kept" boys are usually a secret and little more than a prostitute, and are disposed of after a few years. Wenner and Nye have been partnered for 15 years and have three children together (in addition to the three Wenner had with his ex-wife).

[quote]I am certain his starting salary was at least 200K 20 years ago.

That's patently ridiculous. Even today the highest starting salaries for law grads are about $180K, and that's if you went to Harvard or Yale. The average 20 years ago was $85K. Plus, Georgetown's not *that* good a school regardless (currently ranked #14 on the U.S. News list).

[quote]Who did Diller keep?

I met one of Diller's kept men once, and learned details about him via a mutual friend. He was stunningly attractive: Aryan god-like (tall, blond, very muscular), and also extremely sophisticated in areas such as fashion and fine dining. I don't know the exact details of their arrangement, but Diller provided him with a stunning condo and mainly only required his company on holidays. (Obviously Diller does not squire his kept men to events, since he has his, ahem, wife for that purpose.) Diller also didn't mind that he had a full-time, much younger (I think 19 or 20) boyfriend on the side, but Diller made it clear that his own needs took priority. When Diller ended things, he let the guy keep the condo as a parting gift, and also set him up with a senior-level job at one of his companies.

by Anonymousreply 33April 15, 2010 7:00 PM

Google Clifford Chance please, R33, they dwarf Jones, Day.

by Anonymousreply 34April 15, 2010 7:06 PM

Did I say otherwise, R34? That doesn't mean they pay more. The top-tier firms pay starting associates the same amounts, and if any of them raises the rates, every other top-tier firm follows in lockstep.

by Anonymousreply 35April 15, 2010 7:10 PM

R33, when Diller was running Fox Studios, he had more than a few actors on his payroll.

Wasn't Hugh Jackman one of them.

I know Diller is friends with his current boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 36April 15, 2010 7:11 PM

Oh, well, if Georgetown is ONLY currently ranked 14th, then its law school grads must NOT make anywhere near what the TOP schools' grads make.

I've never even been anywhere near Georgetown and I still think R33 is a pompous ass who doesn't know shit and has to have the last word about everything, even to the point of making stuff up.

by Anonymousreply 37April 15, 2010 7:12 PM

Lawyers consider Georgetown one of the best, and if you want to be a professor at any decent law school it's a good bet you will lose if your LLM is from someone else and your competition's is.

by Anonymousreply 38April 15, 2010 7:19 PM

Clifford Chance isn't a top tier US law firm. Google it again. It's number 2 or 3 in the world.

by Anonymousreply 39April 15, 2010 7:23 PM

[quote]Oh, well, if Georgetown is ONLY currently ranked 14th, then its law school grads must NOT make anywhere near what the TOP schools' grads make.

Sigh. First-year associate salaries are a matter of public record. Harvard & Yale are currently around $180K. Georgetown is around $160K. Google it if you don't believe me. I happen to know all this because my mother is an attorney and managing partner at her firm, and every year brings a new round of complaints about how they'll have to raise salaries yet again to bring in top talent.

R36, it's my understanding that Diller avoids dating or even one-time fucking actors or anyone under his employ out of fear of a lawsuit, either for sexual harassment or "palimony." Ditto David Geffen and the rest of the Velvet Mafia.

by Anonymousreply 40April 15, 2010 7:29 PM

r36, you mean Diller is friends with his own current BF or Hugh's BF (who is obviously friends with the velvet mafia)?

by Anonymousreply 41April 16, 2010 10:29 AM

r39, Georgetown ranks 14 of the top 14 every year. No big deal. I even go to a better school.

Clifford Chance is originally a British firm, but has a big presence internationally. Jones day is based in Ohio and has also grown internationally in recent years. I think the two are about equal in reputation, but well below the ranks of Cravath, Wachtell or Sullivan & Cromwell.

by Anonymousreply 42April 16, 2010 10:38 AM

That was Nicholas Ray, R18.

by Anonymousreply 43April 16, 2010 11:29 AM

The oft quoted example is Alexis, the Baron de Rede, who was working in an antique shop in L.A. when Arturo Lopez-Wilshaw gave him the enticement of a million dollars to join him in Europe. And that was in 1946 when a million truly was a king's ransom.

Harold Acton's memoir of Nancy Mitford quotes an amusing letter of hers about some Parisan screamer who had unbuttoned his shirt at a society dinner party in the '50s to expose a ruby tassel running down his back with the words: "not bad for a working girl".

A Room In Chelsea Square, a roman a clef by Michael Nelson about his experience of being kept by Peter Watson, the arts philanthropist, is every entertaining. Watson could be Machiavellian, and it has some great moments.

by Anonymousreply 50April 16, 2010 1:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 51April 16, 2010 1:28 PM

R25 - Just accept you're wrong about Gant's salary, R33 is absolutely correct. Starting salaries among the top 20 firms aren't vastly different.

And Georgetown Law is well respected, but it's not bow-worthy.

And I thought that Gant was an attorney in LA - there is no Clifford Chance office in LA. I thought he worked for a 2nd tier firm.

Christopher Atkins was a "trick du jour" until his beauty faded and Travolta's career was on the skids until he dated a well connected attorney. He got appearances on award shows, when he had done nothing for years, and out of the blue, landed Grease.

by Anonymousreply 66April 22, 2010 11:42 PM

by Anonymousreply 67April 23, 2010 12:06 AM

Associates do not get paid according to what law school they graduated from. The law firms are run pretty much like monopolies. They almost all have the same salary steps within the same city or within the same region. Obviously top law school grads get into the top tier law firms but a first year associate is a first year associate.

Go visit abovethelaw web site and you'll see how petty and stingy BIG LAW can be.

No firm starts their first year associates at $200,000 today (probably not even if you include bonuses) let alone 20 years ago. Twenty years ago maybe $60,000 - $75,000 in the big cities but memory dims. The big law firms can be very creative with fabulous perks however. They may hire you as a higher year associate (e.g., third year) and that would put you higher on the salary/bonus scale.

Do not envy these young graduates. They earn every penny they make while working hellish hours. Of course, I'm not sure there's all that much work nowadays.

Obviously someone at Mediopolis knew Josh when he was a whore.

I know, wrong thread, but the cunt that runs this site closed that thread.

by Anonymousreply 99June 8, 2010 11:43 PM

To r94, I just graduated from a top 10 law school and the job market is still not good. The salary is at 160,000 annually if you get into big law firms. But what used to be almost 100% employment offer rate now went down to less than 50%, and in recent years not every student (probably also less than 1/2) gets a summer association position. So chances are most people who want a big law job can't get one directly out of law school. Smaller firms or public services do not pay half as good. It really sucks. It wasn't easy to get into a top 10 law school in the first place. Many had good paying jobs before jumping into law school. Additionally, the 160K salary comes with 100K student loan and at least 10 hours billable hours per day. In the end, not a good investment with the current economic situation.

"Al Pacino admit he was a male prostitute in Sicily when he was a starving actor there in his 20s... BUT (and this is the highly unlikely part) he wants us to believe his only clients were older women."

Highly unlikely?

Why?

Straight gigolos abound in areas of Europe where wealthy older women live and vacation, such as Sicily.

by Anonymousreply 115June 10, 2010 12:53 PM

James Lipton has all but admitted he was a young prostitute.

by Anonymousreply 116June 10, 2010 12:55 PM

Read between the lines in Anne Heche's autobiography. She intimates that Richard Burgi was putting out for Doug Marland and other powerful men in the soap opera world in order to get work as an actor while they were living together and engaged. I believe it although the woman is batshit crazy!

Some things never change, they just get older.

Stephen Dorff used to swing shopping bags around Athens, GA that had been stuffed to the brim with money from MICHAEL STIPE!

by Anonymousreply 120June 10, 2010 4:36 PM

For 109:

I was in Paris for Christmas vacation after spending a year abroad in Rome. We met at the IDM Baths of all places. We had a great time there and then continued on to his apartment. The next day I checked out of my hotel and spent the rest of my time with him. When my departure day arrived, he actually cried and asked me to stay -- which I did for the next three years.

He was very smart and well-connected in the Paris design world. We went out constantly and I was really just there for him to show off -- most of his friends didn't really talk to me. So, it was exciting to go to all of these nice restaurants and parties, but kind of lonely too.

He changed my outlook on life, my aesthetic, and when I got out on my own and started an art gallery and bought my own home, so much of their concept and collection were an extension of what I learned from him.

So yeah, I was with him because I had a beautiful face and body, with a nice big dick, but I got lots of things – other than money – in return too.

Tony Danza, Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel. Those I know for sure.

Which other actors are bisexual or gay and formerly kept or male prostitutes?

by Anonymousreply 131June 3, 2011 8:24 AM

Why would Nicholas Cage ever be a prostitute? He is the son of one of the most wealthy and powerful producer/directors in Hollywood. Were the Rockefeller sons prostitutes too?

by Anonymousreply 132June 3, 2011 8:55 AM

r132, not that it might be the case with Nicolas Cage, but some guys from wealthy and powerful families escort just to spite their high class families or are at one point cut off from the lavish lifestyle they are used to and strapped for cash while not used to a moderate lifestyle.

by Anonymousreply 133June 3, 2011 9:05 AM

Nic Cage was also fucking ugly until he had plastic surgery after his first few years in show business. No one is going to pay for ugly.

by Anonymousreply 138June 3, 2011 6:08 PM

How could Ted Casablanca be kept by Bruce Vilanch, when they are both the same age?

by Anonymousreply 139June 3, 2011 6:11 PM

The concept of "kept" isn't necessarily based on age. One partner is wealthy or successful and the other one is not wealthy (and looking for a generous provider) or looking for a chance to get his foot in the buiz.

by Anonymousreply 140June 3, 2011 6:15 PM

"But otherwise there's hunting season all year for gays and hustlers."%0D %0D %0D %0D So? People still manage to "ply their trade" anyway. Homophobia doesn't stop people from hustling.%0D

by Anonymousreply 141June 3, 2011 6:20 PM

Ted Casablanca belonged to Harvey Fierstein, not Bruce Vilanche.

by Anonymousreply 142June 3, 2011 6:24 PM

My father was kept by a very wealthy gentleman while still married to my mother. It was huge scandal in our little New England village. This was in the late 60's and early 70's. My dad moved (during the week only, he came home on weekends) about an hour and half away to a larger city to attend graduate school and ended up living with a very flamboyant character in his very lavish apartment. Meanwhile my mother and all 4 of us kids stayed on the farm. The guy used to come home with my father on the weekends and bring us all presents and take my mother shopping. %0D %0D My parents later divorced and my father came out of the closet. Met someone and was with him for 36 years until he passed away a couple years ago.

by Anonymousreply 143June 3, 2011 6:43 PM

Yea, that Depp/Cage thingy doesnt make sense. Typically a "kept boy" is kept by someone older and much more successful. Both men's career starting picking up steam at the same time and they are virtually the same age.

by Anonymousreply 144June 3, 2011 6:50 PM

What's the story on Colton Haynes?

by Anonymousreply 145June 3, 2011 6:55 PM

I read that Zac Efron's roommates (he's rumored to have) are basically kept boys who hope or hoped for being cast in one of his movies (at least one of them got his wish in the 17 Again movie - Sterling Knight?).

by Anonymousreply 146June 3, 2011 6:59 PM

That's a fascinating family story, R143, How did affect you and your siblings? Did you kids know all along, or were certain proprieties observed?

Thanks for sharing.

by Anonymousreply 147June 3, 2011 7:13 PM

My parents never talked about it. My mother acted like she didn't know anything about it at the time. Although, she was having an affair with a co-worker around the same time, so maybe it suited her needs as well. %0D %0D Of course, not being idiots, my siblings and I knew exactly what was going on. I was age 9-11 during this time and was already pretty aware that I definitely liked boys better. So in some ways it helped to know that I wasn't alone although I couldn't imagine that I would ever end up like John - my father's "friend".%0D %0D It was interesting many years later (dad was in his 70's) when I took my dad to see some of his old friends from that city and they told me some pretty wild stories of just how popular my father was during his stay there. %0D %0D He just sat and listened with a goofy grin on his face while they revealed things I never thought I'd know about my father. %0D %0D He was always a very good looking man and apparently had a huge cock and "made the rounds" amongst the fellas there. It wasn't just John who was supporting him(and all of us). %0D %0D Apparently his friends considered me to be another member of the same tribe so nothing was too sacred.

Thank you r162. Obviously Spacey only introduced Farrell to Joel Schumacher out of the goodness of his heart, and Schumacher gave him top-billing in Tigerland because he had such a large... resume. Horrible Bosses, in theaters now!! SO FUNNY!!

by Anonymousreply 174August 14, 2011 2:36 AM

R161 and R163, I think "kept boy" is somewhere in the middle between "prostitute" and "guy with rich lover".%0D %0D I think of prostitutes / escorts as doing everything transaction by transaction, for cash or easily sold gifts - sleep with you for a night, get paid in return.%0D %0D Guys who happen to have rich lovers have a romantic relationship first and foremost (even if the relationship isn't necessarily one of equals), and the career and monetary benefits are secondary to that. In those cases, there'd never be a case where the guy would be "paid" (in money or gifts) in exchange for having sex.%0D %0D Kept boys straddle the two categories. There's a shared underlying understanding that the relationship really isn't romantic. But at the same time, "payment" isn't as straightforward and transactional - it's longer-term, and includes things like favors in addition to gifts and "spending money" (instead of direct payment for sex).

by Anonymousreply 175August 14, 2011 3:53 AM

Some of the most obvious kept boys can be seen standing alongside elderly queeny fashion designers.

Gant isn't gay, was never kept and has never had sex with a man.

by Anonymousreply 177August 14, 2011 2:19 PM

The best kept boy story was told to me by the elderly boy himself. He was kept by a Swedish baron, and used to yacht with the Swedish Royal Family who called him 'The Little Baron'. But the baron had tin mines in South America, and used to go away for months at a time. One night the boy was sitting on the terrace of the chateau "in one of those endless Swedish twilights, when I saw these animals in the estate Park. I called for one of the servants, and said Erik "What are those cattle?" and he said "Those aren't cattle sir. Those are reindeer." I said "Reindeer?!!! I'm 18, beautiful, and rotting in fucking Lapland!" He packed his bags and fled to London the next day. King Umberto of Italy also tried to pick him up on the Lido. "Such a gentleman. I was later formally introduced to him in the Savoy Grill. He said, "I believe young man we have met before." I bowed very low, and said 'Yes, Your Majesty, I believe we have!"

by Anonymousreply 178August 14, 2011 2:50 PM

"Obviously Spacey only introduced Farrell to Joel Schumacher out of the goodness of his heart, and Schumacher gave him top-billing in Tigerland because he had such a large... resume"%0D %0D %0D %0D Seriously.%0D %0D %0D Spacey is such a sleaze, he doesn't bother helping guys who don't put out.

by Anonymousreply 179August 14, 2011 8:38 PM

[quote]Obviously Spacey only introduced Farrell to Joel Schumacher out of the goodness of his heart, and Schumacher gave him top-billing in Tigerland because he had such a large... resume. Once again, you're conflating things, except in this case it's "kept men" and "fucktoys." Even if we assume Farrell gave up the nappy dugout for Schumacher and Spacey, which I personally doubt but will roll with for argument's sake, why on *earth* do you think giving him one roll on film and maybe a handful of rolls in the sack equates to him being "kept"? You really don't think Farrell would've told those gross old creeps to sod off at the first possible opportunity?

When I first came out and moved to the city, I had two different older guys offer to "put me up" or "take care" of me. I didn't do it, but I wonder what it would have been like. One of them was really wealthy...maybe I'd have a better nest egg today!

by Anonymousreply 229September 15, 2013 2:47 PM

Kurt Cobain doesn't seem like someone who would not be out if he was gay.

More on Michael Stipe? I know Courtney Love made it a point to befriend him as soon as she had access.

Stipe seemed to have a thing for Michael Pitt awhile back.

by Anonymousreply 230September 15, 2013 2:55 PM

Douglas A. Martin wrote Outline of My Body about the time he spent as Michael Stipe's young boyfriend. "Kept" might be a stretch.

by Anonymousreply 237September 20, 2013 2:16 AM

Rock Hudson had a stable of boys.

The only one that I know that went on to greater things was Lee Majors... Did any of his other boys make it big.

by Anonymousreply 238September 21, 2013 6:14 PM

Wasn`t Robert Wagner a kept boy. He was a hunk in his younger day

by Anonymousreply 239September 21, 2013 8:23 PM

Do you think the one who played Magnum PI was ever kept? I mean, he was impossibly good looking. Not so much now, but back then he was quite the hottie. And let's be honest, he isn't exactly the best actor out there.

by Anonymousreply 240September 21, 2013 8:37 PM

What about Burt Reynolds? Was he ever kept?

by Anonymousreply 241September 21, 2013 8:39 PM

bumping this thread up for important reasons.

Met David Geffen. He's a really nice guy, arrogant and cocky, but he has every reason to be. Amazing penthouse apartment on 5th ave. Seriously one of the most incredible apartments in NYC. He e-mailed me online and when we first started talking I had no idea who he was. After a few e-mail exchanges he said "Google me! My name is David Geffen." He propositioned me and told me he wouldn't mind compensating me for my time. Unfortunately I just couldn't do it-the man is old enough to be my father x2. He told me he was into hot younger guys with big dicks. Also just to inform you(and this is relating to previous comments about the boys he likes)I am not white and I don't have a twink-like body.

But then again I could be making all this up just for the hell of it...so..believe what you want!

by Anonymousreply 250June 15, 2014 12:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 251August 5, 2014 8:23 PM

Kevin Lanflisi

by Anonymousreply 252August 5, 2014 8:31 PM

I know he's straight, but you know who I always thought looked like he could've been a kept boy? Michael Biehn circa late 70s/80s. I wouldn't be surprised if he did things to break into the business. It would also explain the problems with drugs/alcohol that he had.

Then he went to CAROLINE IN THE CITY, which I never saw and know nothing about who made it.

Handsome man.

More about Eastwood and Lee Majors please.

Oh get off the cross, Mary/R254.

Don't act like young women who end up with old guys aren't called far worse than "trophy." "Gold-digger," "escort" and "whore" come to mind.

No one is looking at a younger woman who's with some old, rich guy and thinking positive thoughts about her.

by Anonymousreply 256August 5, 2014 10:05 PM

Whenever I read about one of these kept boys who so captivated the wealthy and the royal back in the 20th century, I'm surprised to find them little more than ordinary-looking in their photos. It's like the Mrs. Simpson syndrome.

My line of work involves interacting with a LOT of actors in Hollywood, both wanna-bees and established actors.

Many seem to have no problem flirting with men for the attention.

I don't get it though. If they're not gay, there has to be some special word for it that doesn't apply to most straight guys.

I suppose 'self-involved bi-sexual' is apt.

Ambitious. Narcissistic. If you want to network as an actor you have to learn to be charming and work your good looks. You'd be an idiot to go into the entertainment industry and not realize that includes a lot of gay men.

William Ivey Long kept actor Matt Crabtree

by Anonymousreply 329August 22, 2014 10:58 PM

R328, "Very few woman pay for sex"

That's not entirely true. I've know a few pro gigolos. Usually they're hired by couples, where the older man will hide in the closet. Or he'll get off by watching in the same room, as the paid escort goes down on her.

More likely it's a reversal of the standard roles. A woman with money wants a fab looking, extremely charming man on her arm, which her looks and or weight and personality would not otherwise enable her to possess.

by Anonymousreply 330August 23, 2014 12:54 AM

Bullshit, R330. Link to some examples of females outright paying for it (with no involvement of a creepy husband hiding in the closet). It just doesn't happen. Women are nothing like men. They want to be genuinely adored and desired. They'd rather be alone than have to pay someone to pretend.

Even someone like Madonna, or other wealthy, powerful women who date younger men, there is some part of them that knows they're buying love and sex, but their giant egos allow them to fool themselves into thinking they are desired as well.

by Anonymousreply 331August 23, 2014 1:53 AM

R331, How could I link you to some examples of females paying for men if they're not famous? My former roomie was a professional model, 20's, originally from the Mid West, and extremely charming. He signed up with a Vegas agency that sent men out to entertain ladies and couples for the evening.

I also wrote about Nico Santucci in the Clooney thread. We had an agreement to write a book, "$10,000 a Weekend, The True Story of an American Gigolo." He didn't want to give up his lifestyle, so the book was never completed. His current pics are nothing like he looked when I knew him, by the way.

In Hollywood I attended a talk given by a casting director, and former secretary, of how to get into the business. B.S., said my Latin friend, and former gigolo. She gave me the same offer she gave to (listed the major male and female stars she had helped get careers.) I couldn't "do her" as she was too heavy set and masculine for my taste.

Want more stories?

by Anonymousreply 332August 23, 2014 2:29 AM

That's very rare R332. If it wasn't there would be tons of escort sites aimed at women. There are none. All cater to men--gay and straight.

by Anonymousreply 336September 2, 2014 1:11 AM

R333, R334, The very wealthy woman who wants a gigolo, possibly because her boyfriend or husband is cheating and/or has left, won't go to an agency. Neither will the plainer lady with a now successful career, who wants a very attractive escort without having to compete.

Most upscale mistresses make the man look and feel better about himself. Extremely charming men, who are very well groomed, well spoken, even flirtatious, and highly complimentary of everyone no matter how unlikable the person, and who work in jobs catering to elite women, are often in essence part-time gigolos if they're single and straight.

Think of the top salesman at a pricey boutique, or at an expensive shoe store, a successful bartender at a restaurant with a mostly female clientele, a straight hairdresser or masseur, or an employee at a country club. Golf pros, kids' private swimming instructors, or those in the luxury industries also rely on repeat business from wealthy ladies.

The gigolos I've known say it usually starts with a "thank you" lunch in an expensive restaurant, or cocktails after the man's work day. Or perhaps the lady buys him an expensive gift, and then gives him a bigger offer.

If the young gentlemen is very flirtatious, he may get a subtle invitation to escort the lady to a fancy social event, when her ex or her friends are in attendance. Of course the woman will pay for everything, and the savvy man may receive "carfare" after the event. Or she might start buying him appropriate clothes to wear to her events, as a guarantee he'll show.

Seduction, slow dancing at a very formal party, sexual teasing after a few drinks, a shoulder or back massage afterwards, are how it all starts. It's not necessarily penetrative sex. He is there to meet her desires, do things her less physically attractive ex wouldn't do for her in bed. That's after making her look good to her social set, so her friends suggest she invite him to their next party.

Perhaps later on he'll be taken on a luxury trip, after she's covered his loss of wages for the week.

by Anonymousreply 337September 2, 2014 6:05 AM

R336, Upscale strip club Sapphires' once offered a comp night to a few ladies, who agreed to be filmed for a Japanese documentary. Sitting in the front row in a low cut, mini/club dress, the very charming, buff blond host gave me a sample lap dance, enticing me to come back for more.

Behind me sat a few very heavy set ladies in their late 20's, more conservatively dressed. After a few of the club's comp specialty drinks, they discussed their bi-monthly visits. Co-workers and bi, their masculine demeanor resulted in constant rejection. Here they could make any dancer do ANYTHING they wanted, behind the curtain in the back of the room. Don't believe women don't pay for sex? Get real.

by Anonymousreply 340September 13, 2014 9:03 AM

Geffen used to go for rentboys. He sometimes gave them jobs in his businesses, but he also tended to be verbally abusive and demeaning to them.

by Anonymousreply 341December 7, 2014 2:27 AM

The number of women who pay for sex is really miniscule. If a large number of women were willing to pay for sex the gay for pay phenomenon would not exist, straight guys could just sell themselves to the ladies.

by Anonymousreply 342December 7, 2014 3:25 AM

Fabian , Frankie Avalon and Lou Christie lived in the same home in the Hollywood Hills, They had the same manager , What a party!!!!

by Anonymousreply 343December 7, 2014 3:45 AM

R342 gay for pay is a myth, if a guy is really hetero/straight he's not going to sell his dick, mouth, or ass to gay and bi men for any amount of cash, and he'll just find other ways to get it instead.

But this is datalounge and many queens here need the "ALL men are bisexual!" fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 344January 1, 2015 7:47 AM

About Robert Gant (without engaging in a battle over Georgetown grad salaries):

Having a decent income means you acquire an expensive livelihood and have tons of bills to pay. Switching to a high-risk, low paying career at a young age can be done only if a) you maintain another source of high income on the side b) you abandon your expenses c) you have a trust fund. Gorgeous Gant could have easily opted for a) by choosing to have a "mentor."

So saying that he used to be an expensive lawyer is no argument against the possibility of having been a hooker but if anything, supports the idea.

by Anonymousreply 345January 1, 2015 11:21 AM

But what's the line R345 between being a "kept boy" and having an older, wealthier boyfriend that you're actually into? [no idea who Gant's boyfriend was or if he even had one. Just asking. And his real last name is Gonzalez or something equally Hispanic.)

Isn't he with the president of NBC now too? Can't imagine they bring in anywhere close to the same amount of money, though they are close to the same age.

by Anonymousreply 346January 1, 2015 12:37 PM

R344, "gay for pay" is not the same thing as bisexual
