I don't understand men like Spencer A. Klavan or Peter Thiel

Both proclaim themselves to be Christian. Both are married to men. I was wondering what is going through the head of men like that? Ironically, liberal podcaster Michael Barbaro has a more traditional lifestyle that aligns with conservative ideals.

Power, OP. They worship it.

Michael Barbaro would have power in those circles than Peter and Spencer. Michael could base his career on being ex-gay. Peter and Spencer seem to be hypocrites.

But people like Thiel do not see the world through identity; Thiel has no allegiance to anyone. His gayness is irrelevant to the way he sees the world, and he has enough power that any anti-gay pogroms will never touch him. Contemporary Christianity is a perfect conduit for his sociopathy. He can get millions of dullards into a frenzy and then fuck off back to his New Zealand compound when they start hunting gays for sport.

Didn’t Thiel allegedly have some rent boy thrown out a window? There’s a lot more serious problems between him and Jesus than the gay stuff

There are Christian denominations, certainly Christian-adjacent ones, that celebrate same-sex marriages. And more are (or perhaps WERE) likely to follow. I don't understand why this argument isn't made more often - that it's not only a civil rights issue, but a freedom of religion (or FROM religion) issue as well.

Klavan and Thiel are not championing a progressive form of Christianity. They’re promoting forms of conservative thought. They want credibility with traditional conservatives who believe homosexuality is sin. It’s about claiming conservative authority while demanding conservative exception to the rule. They’re hypocritical to the highest degree.

I'm not familiar with the first guy but Thiel is a standard issue oligarch with no guiding principles other than his own psychopathology. If he pretends to be Christian it's bcause it's a convenient way to manipulate others.
