r2 here - I googled to answer my own question. The case I mentioned above, which is another one where the missing kid's mother was "uncooperative" during the investigation after claiming the kid had been kidnapped, has an update: the father pleaded guilty to homicide of the disabled and missing child, but they haven't been able to find the kid's body yet.
Hoping that this case (with yet another "uncooperative" mother) doesn't end up having the same outcome for the child.
