They're dropping like flies.
The only Kiss member to have a good solo effort.
Yes, I know it's a cover; it's still good.

He only played with them for ten years decades ago. Call us when Gene dies, which probably will be soon as he keeps getting into accidents.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 16, 2025 11:06 PM |
R5, he was part of the band during their biggest years. I remember my brother had all four of their solo albums and I believe his was the most popular with the fans.

The New York Mets still play Frehley's "New York Groove" every time they win.

KiSS fans are so weird and generally low-class, flyover trash. Same goes for.AC/DC and most other metal bands.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 16, 2025 11:21 PM |
I hate to say this with one of the members being so recently departed, but when I see pics of the band members without their makeup, I can easily see why they chose the clown makeup to cover up. None of them were exactly "lookers."
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 16, 2025 11:27 PM |
R8, I've found those who use the term low-class tend to be well, you know. Pot. Kettle. Black.

I always thought KISS was for people for whom Alice Cooper was too sophisticated.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 17, 2025 2:59 AM |
I forget what his superpower was in the TV-movie KISS MEETS THE PHANTOM OF THE PARK. Paul Sytanley could fire laser beams from his eye; Gene Simmons was super-strong; and Paul Criss could climb things like a cat.

R21 ChatGPT says...
"In Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, Ace Frehley's superpower was the ability to shoot lasers from his guitar and to teleport by making a "hitchhiking" gesture. He was known as "Space Ace" and was described as being able to communicate through gestures and sounds, though this was originally because the script didn't give him any lines until he threatened to leave. Lasers: He could shoot lasers from his guitar, which was a key part of his stage act. Teleportation: By making a "hitchhiking" gesture with his thumb, he could teleport from one place to another. Communication: His character was initially written with only the sound "Ack!" as his dialogue, but he was later given some lines to say. "

I loved Kiss. My first New Year’s Eve party on my own was spent shooting pool with friends and listening to Destroyer over and over—probably around ’78. I even had a massive 4' x 3' Kiss poster on my bedroom wall, proudly purchased from Spencer Gifts (of course).
R20, I don’t think the whole Kiss vs. Alice Cooper thing was ever about sophistication. I was really young when I got into Kiss—their music was incredibly accessible. Alice Cooper came later for me, sometime in high school.
I just listened to “Christine Sixteen” from Love Gun and realized my parents had absolutely no clue what I was up to back then, given those lyrics! Like most of us growing up in the ’70s, I had the opposite of helicopter parents. And Love Gun—come on! I vaguely remember that album even came with some kind of cardboard gun.

I mean they look like the New York Dolls at R11, Kiss just took the glam clothes and makeup and ran with it.

Alice Cooper post on Instagram today:
"Alice Cooper had the following to say about the passing of his friend and fellow Rock N Roll Hall Of Famer Ace Frehley - “The worst part of being in rock ‘n’ roll at this point is the fact that some of our fraternity have just reached that age where they’ve… they leave the planet. Ace was an absolute Guitar hero to so many people. I did more tours with him than anybody else, as far as opening for us, for quite a long time so… we became quite good friends. We know that right now KISS fans are certainly in mourning, and certainly his family and certainly everybody that knew him… Ace was an ACE” We’ll miss you Ace! Godspeed. 🛸 ☄️ 💫 🎸💨 "

I’m not ready for all the rock and roll idols and other musicians whose music I grew up with as long as I can remember, start dying off. I’m just not. My past is so much better than the present and my future. I want them to live as long as I do because their familiarity is greatly needed.

Probably hit his head on the corner of a table or something as he fell. Maybe was holding something so he couldn't brace himself.

R31 - According to his Wiki page, he fell twice. It sounds like he tried to get up on his own, but was too light-headed and weak and fell again. He was on a ventilator for a full three weeks.

So he died weeks later from catastrophic injury from a fall. Scary. And random.., Stevie Nicks fell hard and landed on her shoulder, breaking it, a few weeks before his fall. She’s mostly fine now, back on tour, but they each could have landed the way the other one did, and he’d be recovering/ok and she’d be dead.
Stay careful out there.

My partner gets so sick of me always being on his case about being careful in the shower, "hold the rails", etc., but ONE fall can just destroy your life.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 17, 2025 7:29 PM |
The fall could have been precipitated by the brain bleed (anyeurism). Never know!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 17, 2025 7:42 PM |
R39, a local straight couple I’m friends with, husband was doing too much on a hot day, didn’t recognize he was severely dehydrated. He passed out in the shower, fell and hit his head so hard he was in a coma for weeks. Mostly ok now but some residual brain injury.
Sometime earlier this year a Datalounger posted about feeling lucky to be alive after a bad fall down a staircase, and how the fall could have been so much worse.
Kids roll their eyes at “accidents can happen at home” warnings… but older adults know it’s true.

We'll always have the Halloween special...
The original four KISS members—Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley—appeared on the 1976 Paul Lynde Halloween Special. They were the musical guests, performing with host Paul Lynde and other celebrities.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 17, 2025 8:44 PM |
The only good thing about coming of age in the 90s is that most of our elite rock stars are already dead. We have thick scar tissue for these things at this point.
I truly hated KISS (I just never "got" them), but had a soft spot for Ace. RIP.
