With Hollywood looking to potentially reboot the franchise, they need a new Freddy.
Director Chuck Russell wants Jim Carrey to play Freddy Krueger in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ reboot

No.

“The reboot absolutely no one asked for and everyone actually begged not to get made is coming soon to a theater near you”

Why Jim Carrey? Is Kevin James too busy?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 16, 2025 5:57 PM |
Jim isn’t considered scary. He’s an actor. They think he can pull off scary but funny at the same time
The 2010 remake was not liked much by the public because they felt it was too serious and boring. That’s why no other sequels came from it.
Now they wanna reboot it with the funnier Freddy we got in the later films

Maybe they could get Melissa McCarthy to play Frederica Kruger.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 16, 2025 6:03 PM |
I think he’d be good if he doesn’t ham it up too much.

I think Jim Carrey would make a great "funny mean Freddy" if the Jim Carrey who shows up is the "In Living Color" Jim Carrey, who was insanely FUNNY!!
Freddy by Jim Carrey would sell tickets& make $$$$ if done right..

Fire Marshall Bill Burn Victim Krueger

He would be great

I don't think Jim Carrey is looking to have a comeback and certainly not in this.
He seems to be happy being very private and painting.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 16, 2025 6:38 PM |
He would be great I think. He has a dark side to him.

Sarah Jessica Parker is also being considered for the role of Freddy Krueger.

These movies always pissed me off because I went to school with the sweetest kid who was horribly burned by a kerosene heater and was scarred for life. Kids were assholes to him. He had to hear Freddy Krueger whispered about him or yelled to him nearly every day. He's doing okay now and has a great life and wife and kids, but I still don't enjoy the movies.

There is something hyper-aggressive and imposing about Jim Carrey when he is in full comic mode that I think could be successfully channeled into horror.
I don’t enjoy Jim Carrey at all unless he either dials it down or funnels it into something completely unexpected, as he did playing a sociopathic gay grifter in I Love You, Phillip Morris.
I’d be very curious as to what he’d do with Freddy Krueger.

Comedians sometimes can be used as sinister characters to great effect. Robin Williams had a small sideline in it in later life. If he actually wants to do it he should.
Now I'm thinking of him as Dracula in "In Living Color."

Most comedians are very angry people internally
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 16, 2025 10:22 PM |
How about you come up with some new ideas, Hollywood?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 16, 2025 10:25 PM |
I heard he’s being considered to star in the live action film of The Jetsons. I doubt he’ll take this role. Englund left too big of a mark for anyone else to step into this role and do it justice.

R5, if not, Melissa can play Frederica Bimmel. She's got roomy hips and would make a lovely woman's suit.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 16, 2025 10:27 PM |
More like Freda Cruller r5
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 16, 2025 10:34 PM |
r16 I don't think that's true. I think it's more true that most comedians are very SAD inside; not angry.
The suicide rate for comedians is up there.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 16, 2025 10:37 PM |
R21 they can be both.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 16, 2025 10:40 PM |
R18 the 2010 version had someone else playing Freddy.

[quote] the 2010 version had someone else playing Freddy.
But no one remembers that version.

I think he was would be great as Freddy

Viloa Davis IS Freddy Krueger!

Didn’t Chuck Russell direct Dream Warriors?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 16, 2025 11:59 PM |
Fuck no. Kevin Bacon makes more sense.

Why not cast Johnny Depp as Freddy?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 17, 2025 2:53 AM |
Obviously I should be cast. The whole project can be a meditation on the construct of intergenerational TROWMA!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 17, 2025 3:07 AM |
Somebody STOP him!

Chuck Russell directed a remake of the 1986 Tawny Kitaen cult classic "Witchboard", which was released a few months ago. It BOMBED at the box office, but being a fan of the original, I caught it in the theater when it was playing near me. It is NOT a good movie, but I'll be damned if I was not entertained from start to finish.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 17, 2025 3:56 AM |
Movie producers float the "being considered for" just to get peoples attention about a project. It's the equivalent of "Jerry Seinfeld being considered for Troll 3!". It's usually bullshit.
Jim Carrey is better off just where he is. There are also mental health and substance abuse issues to consider.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 17, 2025 10:51 AM |
No. The 2010 remake showed this franchise is dead.
