Then go right down to Circuit City and get a brand new VCR!

by Anonymousreply 1October 16, 2025 1:32 AM

R1 VCRs were already being phased out in 2001

by Anonymousreply 2October 16, 2025 2:05 AM

VCRs were still VERY readily available in 2001. I got a new dual deck VCR in 2000 and it was still on the market for at least a few years after that; I know because a friend got one then. The last new VCR I got was a VCR/DVD combo in 2013. Prior to that, I got a new TV/VCR combo in 2006.

R3 no one said they weren’t available. Learn to read.

They were being PHASED OUT by 2001. Meaning they were available but DVDs were taking top priority. They were moving away from VHS. Just 3 years later many studios stopped releasing films to vhs and only did dvd. Only some releases got VHS. And by 2006 VHS was done.

Then Bluray happened.

R3 buying a TV/VCR combo in 2006 when VHS was barely around anymore is laughably stupid. DVD was the top dog for years by that point and 2006 was the year the final VHS movie release happened.

by Anonymousreply 5October 16, 2025 2:30 PM

It’s not stupid if you own a large library of VHS content.

by Anonymousreply 6October 16, 2025 2:32 PM

If you own a large library of vhs content that means you have a vhs player already. Who the fuck buys a tv vcr combo when they bought a vhs player in 2000…. Your story doesn’t even make sense.

by Anonymousreply 7October 16, 2025 2:34 PM

To piggyback off of r7, DVD sales outperformed VHS by 2002. By 2003 DVD was outselling VHS in mass numbers. By 2005 VHS sales were so low that studios opted out of releasing films on VHS.

Buying a VHS player instead of a DVD player in 2006 was a very silly choice.

by Anonymousreply 8October 16, 2025 2:45 PM

R3 said it was a VHS/DVD combo, not a VHS/TV combo. VHS machines break. That’s why someone with a large VHS library might want a new one. Or perhaps they own more than one TV.

Let's see Paul Allen's card.

by Anonymousreply 10October 16, 2025 2:55 PM

Leto looks EXACTLY the same.

The collage illustration accompanying that article is odd

Kinda ironic that both this and "Fight Club" have gigantic cult following among the straight/bro/dude/incel segment, but were based on books written by openly gay men.

by Anonymousreply 13October 16, 2025 7:10 PM

I really wish they’d stick with the original film posters/packaging with these releases. Some of the new designs, not necessarily pointing to this one, are so bad. The new artwork for The Exorcist re-release was terrible.

by Anonymousreply 14October 16, 2025 7:10 PM

R13 because neither story is focused on gayness. Gay men da write straight stories.

You seem to think being gay is a gay man’s entire mentality and focus.

by Anonymousreply 15October 16, 2025 7:11 PM

The artwork for this one is good. I like that inside the bluray cover is a cd cover and that’s what the movie is in.

This movie has been released so many times over the years which is funny as it was a massive bomb at the time. There are numerous different Blu-ray versions of it.

And I never know what the difference is between the directors cut or the uncut version.

I actually realized recently I hate when there are various cuts of a movie.

R12 R16 For the few of us that didn’t figure it out (I didn’t at first), the “odd” graphic is a take-off on Huey Lewis and the News’ SPORTS album cover.

Yes. As Patrick likes their music. There is a whole chapter of him talking about their music.
