Are you going to be impacted by the stricter banking laws starting at the end of this year?
I understand it is especially problematic for people relying on social security deposits into an account that is being closed given the government shut-down.

I haven't heard anything about this -- details, please?
And I belong to a credit union -- will that save me?

Apparently two factor identification with the second factor sent to a phone in the US is being required.
A relative of mine is frantically trying to get the SS payment changed to a wire transfer. A relative of my wife’s is going to have my wife get the code every time she needs to access her account.

How do they define "a phone in the US"? Can it just be a US phone number? When I was in Panama, I used my regular Verizon cell phone number all the time -- I ran the phone off the wifi, to call everyone back home and they could call me as well (for free). How would they know the phone isn't physically located in the US?

I am not entirely sure SL. And it seems like some banks are OK with texted codes whereas others are requiring apps that may be blocked overseas.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
