OMG, utter chaos!
Judy Garland, Ethel Merman and Barbra Streisand all on the same stage belting out a song.
Poor Judy seemed so confused, Barbra was like a deer in the headlights, and Ethel stole the show, of course.

Goddamn, Ethel could really belt out a song.
What a powerful voice she had.

Entertainment is shit today, with so little both spontaneous and authentic.
Not to mention gloriously campy.

I think this is the only Ethel Merman performance of a number from Gypsy during the shows run that exists.
Yeah, she became a joke as the years went on, but none of the ladies who have played that role can compare to the greatness of Merman. Not even close. THIS is a fucking star.
So perfect as a domineering, monstrous, stage mother. It must have been so thrilling for the people watching this on opening night.
(and gosh, Perry Como was so cute in his prime)

Way back in the day, a friend of mine in college did a hilarious impression of Ethel Merman singing “Been Caught Stealing” by Jane’s Addiction, which was a hit song at the time.
I did say it was back in the day.

I've had more than sufficient.

I was always afraid she was going to eat me.
