Why do gays blame trans for so much, when the right wing still hates gays?

Some gays think that getting rid of all trans is going to in any way make things better. It doesn't. You'd be very foolish to think that what Anita Bryant and Jerry Falwell preached isn't making a comeback - and it has to do with the fact that fundamentalism has not disappeared. It's grown more powerful, not less. Fundamentalists abhor trans, but they abhor gays along with them.

The enemy continues to win because they've successfully thrown a wedge in between our community, and they know it. And you're falling into their trap if you think that being anti-trans is getting you anywhere. You're being used as tools.

1. I'm gay. I know we have a common enemy. Same as lesbians, women of reproductive age, and many other groups.

2. I am not lesbian, nor a woman of a reproductive age, nor any other group, including trans.

3. Having a common enemy does not mean we are the same.

Only troll gays on DL blame trans. We’re smart enough to know the right hates all of us

by Anonymousreply 2October 13, 2025 10:47 PM

It's funny that Obergefell vs. Hodges (the most beloved ruling of the gay conservatives) could very well be undone by Donald Trump's Supreme Court... and once Obergefell goes back to the states, what is there left? How soon before we have the return of Don't Ask, Don't Tell?

by Anonymousreply 3October 13, 2025 10:54 PM

It’ll be difficult to get rid of gay marriage altogether, even if Obergefell falls. Congress passed the law that says all stares must recognize interracial and gay marriages performed in other states.

Certainly the right can get rid of that law (or SCOTUS can say it’s unconstitutional) but both will be very difficult

[Quote] Having a common enemy does not mean we are the same.

All Latinos aren’t the same. All Asians aren’t the same. All Whites aren’t the same. All Blacks aren’t the same.

These are political groups that come together because they have common characteristics and there is political power in numbers.

The right has been desperately trying to break up the LGBTQ coalition and pushing against trans is a major part of that strategy.

Having a common enemy means that enemy will do everything to divide and conquer. Don’t let them

Gays have confused tolerance for acceptance for a long time now, and they still are. For some, it's easier to blame trans, instead of facing the fact that most people just aren't that into us.

I have never had an issue with trans folks - it’s just that the trans struggle/journey has sucked all the LGBTQ air out of the room and the rest of us can’t breathe.

White wing gays, closeted and out, are maga and responsible for this mess

Once gays got marriage, it was felt that we had reached equality. Everything (organizations, money) shifted to trans equality. The fact that this may not affect you directly is why you’re whining about trans sucking all the air out. Now that the right is coming after gay marriage, we’ll see some shift back towards gay equality

Because we recognize that this whole trans thing is a fad for a lot of them. Where were all these people 15 years ago. It suddenly got popular to claim you were not the sex you were born as. It's just a way for a lot of these people to get attention. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Unless you've had full sexual surgical reassignment you are not a transsexual. You are a transvestite, and you're just riding a wave until you get tired of it.

Gay and lesbian rights and acceptance felt like a gradual thing in terms of your everyday average straight person getting on board with it. Gay and lesbian rights didn’t ask anything of anyone else and it didn’t need to affect any straight person’s life, just to let gay and lesbian people have the same rights as straight people (marriage, next-of-kin rights, protection from discrimination at work etc). It was more ‘hey we happen to be attracted to and love people of the same sex, but we’re just like you so leave us alone to live like that and you live how you live’.

But then in the last 5-10 years the trans movement has asked for more than acceptance and rights but for people to acknowledge what is factually wrong (e.g. men cannot become women). Add to that that some in the G camp of the LGBTIQA+++ have taken an approach of ‘ok you accept us being gay but now accept every sex fetish and clap for us as we parade on floats in bondage gear or dressed as piss pigs’. And less dramatically the ridiculous ‘pride month’ crap that’s foisted on everyone whether it’s through advertising or their employers. That’s where the average straight person thinks ‘hang on, we accept it and are fine with it but why do we have to be forced to celebrate it constantly’ and not just celebrate ‘normal’ gay and lesbian people but all the kinky shit we don’t want to see.

by Anonymousreply 12October 14, 2025 1:29 AM

Add to that, the reason some gay and lesbian people ‘blame’ trans people for a roll back in acceptance of gays and lesbians is that all of the above, because it’s grouped as LGBTIA whatever we’re all lumped in that basket. So the average person thinks when they watch a biological man beat up a woman in the Olympics or they watch a biological male get swimming medals competing against their females that gays and lesbians support this too.

The media is in large part responsible for this as they never say ‘the trans community is offended’ or ‘the trans community is up in arms about…’, it’s always ‘the LGBTI community…’

Why do bitter ancient moribund obsessed gits of Datalounge blame trans for so much, when the right wing still hates gays?

The difference is that gays and lesbians wanted the same rights as an everyone else. To marry, to be accepted as normal members of society, to not be treated as outcasts.

The current iteration of the trans activists don’t want equal rights. They want their identities affirmed. It’s not enough for them to not experience discrimination and bigotry, and to have access to support specific to their particular needs. They want public individuals to possess thoughts and opinions about gender identity that align with their own. And the gay liberation movement historically didn’t really do that - demanded equality, not adoration.

by Anonymousreply 15October 14, 2025 2:02 AM

I don’t remember marriage equality activists making death or rape threats to get their point across. I don’t recall gays and lesbians calling straight people bigots because they didn’t want to fuck them. I mean enough people saw that marriage equality didn’t affect their own lives and their lives wouldn’t be any different if marriage equality was legalized.

I mean trans women are women is as silly as gay men are straight men.
