Perhaps the ol Kath-ode ray was a bit ahead of her time?
Then again, she’d DEFINITELY still get fired today. I mean Matthew Dowd got fired for making a completely factual statement about Charlie Kirk.

What was a perfectly acceptable form of political discourse then, and it is now.
Unfortunately, the "woke" snowflake MAGAts, once again the ultimate proponents of projection, took offense.

Rethinking what? She probably didn't really anticipate the backlash she got but I never saw a problem with what she did. I don't think a lot of people did they're just cowards like Anderson Cooper.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 13, 2025 6:17 PM |
R2, I’m remembering that many liberals clutched their pearls over it at the time.
Was it all a fever dream, or was that the case?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 13, 2025 6:25 PM |
She is not a Judith, and Holofernes wasn't democractically elected. It was pretentious then and it's now. Should it be allowed? Absolutely. But would you be so pro freedom of expression if she held Obama's severed head? If your answer is "no", then it's not about that for you.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 13, 2025 6:31 PM |
I wish it hadn’t happened partly because I am so tired of Kathy not being able to shut up about it.
Cher of all people was scared off by it too. I guess she’s more old school than you’d think.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 13, 2025 6:34 PM |
I know those guys attract a pretty trigger-happy crowd, but what Matthew Dowd said was just stupid and he should have known they would be looking for the left to “minimize” the situation.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 13, 2025 6:37 PM |
1) It was a lazy, witless, unfunny gag, and that more than anything made it indefensible.
2) It's jnever a great idea to make presidential assassination jokes in a country with as much of a history of presidential assassinations as this has.

[quote] Cher of all people was scared off by it too. I guess she’s more old school than you’d think.
Cher dumps anyone who is no longer useful to her. She’s wildly narcissistic and a whore of the highest order. She’d also a terrible mother and can’t fucking sing.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 13, 2025 6:39 PM |
I was not Kathy's idea. She was a prop in an artist's photo. Kathy isn't a big thinker. Clever, sure. I didn't understand the hoopla. I was worth a cluck cluck for an afternoon, at most.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 13, 2025 6:41 PM |
I'll stick by Kathy to the bitter end, just like I'll stick by Brett Butler to the bitter end.
Tough women the world brought down.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 13, 2025 6:43 PM |
I very well remember the woman I was Facebook friends with who got the most upset about the Griffin picture had posted a cartoon of President Obama getting lynched maybe a week or so before.
So, anyone "what abouting" this situation hasn't a leg to stand on.
Republicans are masters at selective outrage.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 13, 2025 6:43 PM |
What r7 said. It was dumb and she deserved the blowback. I hope Trump dies everyday. I certainly wouldn't make a public spectacle of my hope.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 13, 2025 6:43 PM |
R4, one of the reasons Michelle Obama wants nothing to do with US politics (despite some saying she could be elected POTUS on her own strengths). is the crap she had to put up with from racist Americans while her husband was POTUS and having to bite her tongue and keep quiet for 8 long years. She's quite aware that a substantial number of white Americans viewed her and her entire family as "uppity Negroes" who didn't know their place in the world.
So you're holier than thou attitude is pretty baseless.
Also, to my knowledge, Barack Obama is not a convicted felon, not a violent sexual predator, not a child rapist, and not a psychotic lose cannon just itching to go to wage war on his mortal enemies, Democrats and other Americans who don't agree with him.

[Quote] But would you be so pro freedom of expression if she held Obama's severed head? If your answer is "no", then it's not about that for you.
Who said anything about freedom of expression? Not I.
She’s holding the severed head of a tyrant. As we sit here idly inputting text, Trump I’d destroying our democracy and we’re mostly just passively hoping he fails. (But I’m sending you hope he succeeds, r4.)

[Quote] but what Matthew Dowd said was just stupid
What?
According to the Guardian:
[Quote] “Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions,” Dowd said, adding: “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and then not expect awful actions to take place.”
[Quote] Dowd also speculated about the circumstances of the shooting, saying: “We don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration. So we have no idea about this.”
Please point out the stupid part. Seems 100% accurate to me.

Love Kathy but at the time I thought it was a dumb mistake and feel the same way now.

Would you have had a problem with a photo of say Megyn Kelly holding the bloody head of Joe Biden?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 13, 2025 7:17 PM |
Do you *really* want to equate Trump to Joe, r19?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 13, 2025 7:23 PM |
I don't have "a problem" with any of the suggested pictures. Cheap shot, ugliness, vulgarity, Whatever. Do we hae to be drama queens about this. Sheesh the DRAMA around some of these meme level nothingburgers.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 13, 2025 7:25 PM |
Yes, R20, for the purpose of arguing that that sort of disgusting photo is an invitation to violence.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 13, 2025 7:27 PM |
Who are all these creeps normalizing the murderous tyrant Trump with Obama and Biden, both of whom respected American institutions.
Sorry but “both-sides” is just an apology for fascism.

Along with her plastic surgery I have a feeling Kathy Griffith has been rethinking this and realizes what a mistake it was and how in every sense of the word she never recovered from it.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 13, 2025 7:34 PM |
[quote]Yes, [R20], for the purpose of arguing that that sort of disgusting photo is an invitation to violence.
Both sides aren't violent, r22. Nobody on the left was going to go and cut off Trump's head. There has only been one side calling for violence.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 13, 2025 7:39 PM |
R23 If you're referring to my post you're completely missing the point. I think there's no place for that kind of garbage regardless of who it's targeting.
R25 is Helen Keller.

[quote]Would you have had a problem with a photo of say Megyn Kelly holding the bloody head of Joe Biden?
You know who *wouldn't* have a problem with it, r19? Joe. He'd recognize it as free speech and not make her life a living hell.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 13, 2025 7:45 PM |
I don't think it was Dump who made her life a living hell. I think it was 1. herself and 2. the media who loves to bring down anyone who makes a faux pas.

[quote]I was not Kathy's idea. She was a prop in an artist's photo.
The fake severed 'head' she was holding was a prop. Kathy, the human, was a participant. Big difference.
Do I care either way what she did ? Didn't care then, don't care now.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 13, 2025 8:04 PM |
And yet here you are, R30, caring so little, then or now, you had to take the time to make a post about it.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 13, 2025 8:12 PM |
Apparently Miss r19 is rip van winkle and fell asleep in 2014.
We’ve got news for you, Miss r19. The violence is already upon us.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 13, 2025 8:20 PM |
We’d had sufficient of Kathy and used the opportunity to disconnect from her. Reaching B-list made her somewhat insufferable.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 13, 2025 8:28 PM |
R31 Yes here I am. And what of it ? If I don't care about something, I'm not allowed to correct a mistake in a post differentiating between prop and participant ? Is that how your feeble mind works ?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 13, 2025 8:29 PM |
Do you always expend this kind of time and effort on shit you profess not to care about R30/R34? Talk about feeble minded, not to mention futile and soul sucking.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 13, 2025 8:37 PM |
You do know this isn't about Kathy, r33?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 13, 2025 8:41 PM |
And yet she's featured in the OP's pick
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 13, 2025 9:11 PM |
R13 Perfectly understandable. But you also left out the huge part that she was also dealing with nut job para-schizoid transvestigators.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 13, 2025 9:37 PM |
Exactly, R32. Kathy Griffin may have engaged in a tasteless stunt of performative theatre. What is going on in America today is what is truly revolting...the abuse of power, the violence used against those engaged in peaceful civil protest, sending people to prisons in other countries and countries such as Iran, the complete disregard for the rule of law, and the use of the military on its owns citizenry.
That's the true violence.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 14, 2025 1:02 AM |
I liked Kathy then, and I like Kathy now. I think what that entire situation taught her was that her A-list status was just smoke and mirrors, and some of the people she thought were her friends weren't really her friends. A shitty way to learn some hard lessons, but I think she's better and stronger for it.
What happened to Kathy was wrong and should never happen to any American. It was a mannequin's head with ketchup on it for Christ's sake.
