Tasteful friends: Woody Allen buys Catalan Modernist 1917 house in Barcelona, €25M
Reports now appear to confirm that Allen has purchased the house was that featured in his 2008 film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona". The house was used as film location for the family home of Patricia Clarkson's character, and off-camera was Allen's home and office for the filming. The house was listed for sale in late spring for €25 million, the sale concluded in September (purchase prices are not public information in Spain.)
The house combinesd aspects of Catalan Modernism with historicism, drawing from vernacular Catalan farmhouse models. The house is in the barrio Puxtet, a posh bit of Gràcia, with some private enclaves. Gràcia is at the upper/northern part of the city, just above the Eixample district. The architect was Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, marqués de Sagnier. The house sits on a plot of 1600m2 including walled garden and swimming pool, and the building itself is1100m2 (nearly 12,000 square feet). There is a salon of 74m2, 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, and one floor given over to a principal bedroom suite.
Initial reports of Allen's purchase were vague, saying that he had bought a house of a certain size and date and architect. Later reports turned decisive in saying that he had bought the house he had used in filming 7 years ago. [First article references Allen's use of the house in 2008 but was written before the sale was concluded.]

He does seem obsessed with Spain now instead of NYC. Representative of the world I guess. Spain is one of the few places that offer the luxuries of the modern world in a culture thst isn't oppressively capitalistic.

Surprising to me thst a 90 year old man would want to move countries. Or even travel at that point. I would expect to want to just stay in my UES townhouse in the town I’ve called home my entire life. Not move continents - however much time I’ve spent there.

I don't think it was suggested that he's shuttering the UES townhouse and moving the contents and his life to Spain. The Spanish press sometimes like to mistake an international celebrity buying a holiday house in Spain with his moving there permanently.
But good for him if, at 90, he has the interest and inclination to take on new things. When you're 90, how do you weigh the risk of taking on something big versus wrapping oneself in cotton wool? Moving, or even moving between two hones, would be more challenging --in a good way-- than changing nothing.
I imagine Allen's world is well tended and cushioned by others. I don't see him standing in an hours long line, struggling to explain why he needs a NIE card or how to get in queue for public health services, or even wondering for too long what some dish on a menu is. Moving to Spain and watching your money is different from buying a €25M house to see how you like living there - part or full time. He has money enough not to be trapped by a bad decision.
