Madonna's unheralded 1994 masterpiece "Bedtime Stories" is getting a reissue with unreleased tracks and demos. It is the last Madonna CD I enjoyed start-to-finish. Somehow "Ray of Light" managed to eclipse this one with Grammys and critical acclaim even through the title track "Bedtime Story" is the sonic blueprint for -- and better than anything on -- ROL. "Bedtime Stories" featured the longest running No.1 pop hit of Madge's career, "Take A Bow" and it is not even the best track on the CD. Some say this album was inspired by Dallas Austin's work on Joi Gilliam's "The Pendulum Vibe" CD. I think this was Madonna's most accessible record of the 90s but it came right after that awful "Sex" book; radio was shutting her down and the Grammys were shutting her out. She cancelled the support tour so she could do "Evita" (blech!)
Some really outstanding album cuts on this one. "Love Tried To Welcome Me" is probably my favorite Madonna ballad...and she has recorded many beautiful ballads. It is considered an under-achiever in sales but her fans love it. Glad it is getting a reissue.
