Tanqueray is DEAD to ME!

Stephanie "Tanqueray" Johnson has died after a massive stroke (according to the HONY Facebook page).

Her story, told over several posts in Humans of New York, made her famous, and a book about her life followed.

No news link posted yet but here's a collection of some of the posts telling her story. It was quite something.

Get Bill Condon on the line. This needs to be a biopic star vehicle for me.

I read all her posts. That chick lived 100 lifetimes ! She was fabulous in her youth.

The HONY series was fascinating. Rest in peace Stephanie.

I hope she received all that money we donated to her and was able to live her final days in comfort.

RIP Tanqueray

I chatted her up a few times at Chelsea Sq Diner (23rd and 9th). She could be fairly entertaining.

This reminds me of when Flower, the matriarch from Meerkat Manor, died.

A classic NYer. Glad she got to tell her story - and she deserves credit for brutal honesty. But she knew it was a way of getting attention even in old age - especially from the gay boys of Chelsea. A hard life but at least she didn’t succumb to drugs like most people would who lived that childhood and life. A good long life - and hopefully avoided a long, slow slide into dementia and pain.

A news item, but it just repeats what was posted on HONY.

Oddly her smile reminds me of Michelle Obama.
