Why was Italian Brenda (with a mobbed-up Uncle Carmine to boot) throwing her son a bar mitzvah?
They say that Annie lives in Connecticut, yet she's shown walking her whimpering dog down a Manhattan street.

It really is a crap movie. The screenplay is the worst part. Goldie should have gotten a Supporting Actress nod though.

Brenda's husband was a Jewish man, I'm guessing.
Maybe Annie kept a apartment in NYC, lots of people do that.

Brenda says in the movie that her Italian uncle is on her father's side of the family implying her mother was Jewish and she was raised a Jew.

I worked at a prop house and the prop master came in to rent some props. He said earlier in the day that they'd filmed Stockard's suicide and the mood was very somber.

It was nice to see Mark Nelson getting extra work.

Bronson Pinchot has always been underrated.

It's been a while since I've seen this, but I recall Goldie stole the movie from the other two and that while Diane was okay, I found Bette (who I've liked in a lot of other things), really unlikable in this.

Fuck you, R11!

Sorry, r12, but Bronson Pinchot went on the record to say what you were like during filming.

Stockard Channing made a huge impression in her three minute scene.

Does anyone know why Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t have a name title in the opening credits despite having the 5th largest role?

I'm hanging my head in shame for flubbing that line R18. Please suspend my gay card, I deserve it. In my defense tho, it's been 20+ years since I've seen this.

Wow R18. Great job copying R8.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 12, 2025 9:40 PM |
R21. Hahaha. Didn't see that. Sorry R8

I don't know the answers to OP's question, but I concur with R1 that this really is a crap movie. When I saw it, I thought it was so bad that I literally couldn't understand how anyone would like it, let alone how it became a fair-size hit.

Elise was supposed to have a romance with Jon Stewart after she accepted the role in the play, but his part was cut in the editing room so was Heather Locklear’s. The original trailer has a scene where Midler and SJP fight in the department store where she confronts Morty (Dan Hedaya) but it didn’t make the Final Cut.

Also there was a joke about Kathie Lee Gifford that got cut out. They had some great actors that were underused, Victor Garber, Eileen Heckart, Channing and Marcia Gay Harden. Also Stephen Collins and Keaton were nice looking people what did they get someone ugly to play their daughter.
