Microdosing magic mushrooms--anyone else?
I've been taking thrice weekly microdoses of psilocybin for the last four weeks, and it's been life-changing. I never feel "high", just markedly more patient, tolerant, peaceful, and grounded. No more road rage, deep political anxiety and anger, wanting to bitch slap my co-workers, or privately seething at my partner's annoying habits. It's also calmed my eczema and lessened my joint pain (apparently it's also anti-inflammatory), and really boosted my libido. Zero side-effects. It feels like it's healing my frazzled brain and body.
I firmly believe if all Americans were secretly dosed with this stuff we would be a far less polarized, anxious, and violent people.
Any other fellow shroomers here?

What’s your regimen, op? I’m interested in doing this, but also scared.

I would do it but I done have a mushroom source.

Shrooms / LSD are the only drugs I DON'T regret taking. And I regret a LOT. But as for taking them now? No, I think that ship has sailed.

R1 I do 4 days on, 3 days off.
R2 I was getting them from a friend of a friend, but then I found this website which sells it in gummy and tea form and is perfectly dosed, so I've been ordering from there, since it was the same price anyway. I think it comes from Oregon, where it's legal.

^ Meant to say, 3 days on, 4 days off.

I"m intrigued. Calming and healing and a step toward inner peace sound great, but R5 does it make you less motivated/productive? I'd like to feel even a little more beatific on the inside but still capable of getting shit done.

R8 Not at all. I've actually been more productive because the anxiety and resentment that enormously contributed to procrastination for me has been softened so much. It also makes me care a lot less what people think (in a good way), so it's eased my perfectionism tremendously. I'm embracing opportunities I wouldn't have thought I had a chance at before, because I was just so hard on myself.

R7 It does seem that way, but because you're taking such small doses, it only comes out to around $40 a month. I buy the 10 gram peach tea for $120, and that will last me a little over 3 months.

I'm prone to severe panic attacks so if you secretly dosed me with hallucinogens you'd probably traumatize me for life. No thanks.

R1 I'm a scaredy cat about drugs too, which is what stopped me from trying it for so long. I get super anxious and paranoid from weed, and the two times in my life I tried acid I basically wanted to jump out a window the whole time. Mushrooms are SO different though. It just makes you feel connected--to your self, to others, to nature. "Grounded" is the best word I can think to describe it. Whereas THC is, in my opinion, detaching.
Also, when you're microdosing, the goal is NOT to be high. If you're feeling high, you've had too much. It just feels like a really good day--one of those days where everything feels a bit easier and happier.
You know how the goal of meditation is not to try and prevent thoughts and feelings from coming, but instead to just notice them and let them flow by you like a river? That's what microdosing shrooms is like. I don't take things so personally that other people do or say, I don't get stuck in thought/anxiety loops or let frustrations or disappointments drag me down or spiral. I observe them, I'm curious about them, then I let them flow past me.

OP, do you take any anti-depressants, and if so, do you continue to do so while microdosing. This is an interesting option for me, as your situation sounds similar to mine, and anti-depressants haven't cut it for some time... Glad it's working for you.

I'm curious to try. But how do 5 tea bags last you three months? Do you only drink it once a week or something and the effect lasts for 2 weeks?

I do not, R18, and from my understanding, they're best not mixed. It can either put you at risk for serotonin syndrome, or else just cancel each other out. For instance, I know Lexapro would prevent the mushrooms from taking effect.

I had a bad mushroom trip as a lad, so I’m wary, but a friend of my brother swears by microdosing.

Uh oh, watching r26's video of Lisa Simpson tripping brought me to a YouTube rabbit hole. This has nothing to do with shrooming, except that I took two gummies an hour ago.
This is a relevant clip for the day.

R22 The best thing to do if you're serious about starting a microdosing protocol for depression/anxiety would be to first titrate off the anti-depressants (safely, of course). You'd pretty much be flushing money down the drain by doing them both at the same time.

R19 I brew it all in one batch along with honey and then freeze it into ice cubes which I measure out by 0.25 grams. I microdose in cycles of 3 days on/ 4 days off (other people do 4 days on/3 days off)

I think you’d have to titrate off the antidepressant first for safety. For me that rules out microdosing shrooms for now since I finally found an effective antidepressant and going off of them is unpleasant.

OP, I do take Lexapro to little effect, so I will get off them first and see how long it stays in one's system. Then start taking gummies, which I just ordered this afternoon.

Op, I am interested in this. So, you are saying that each microdose should be 0.25 grams? Does height, age or weight go into the calculations? I am looking at the Peach Gummies at $35 per bag. They have 20 X 100mg in a bag. Does that mean 2-1/2 gummies per microdose? (Math has never been my strong point).

I ate half of a mushroom bar and had a really bad trip. It put me off hallucinogens for life. I really regret messing up and taking so much.

r35, I was an active participant in that thread and grew two crops. It was a hassle. Since then, shrooms have been available legally in San Francisco and Berkeley shops. When I retired, I gave favorite staff members a bottle of gummies. Need to follow up on that.

R33 I’m pasting this from the website upthread. So it would seem to say start with half a gummy and the increase slowly up to 2.5 gummies until you hit the right point. I just ordered some and am very curious. Thanks to the OP for bringing this up… I need to find a different solution from Lexapro.
Microdosing is consuming small, sub-perceptible amounts of a psychedelic substance, typically in the range of 50-250mg. This dosage differs from a recreational dose as users are still able to function without any disruptive effects. In fact, many users report an increase in focus, clarity, creativity, and empathy among many other positive changes.

I live in Florida and had visions of my home being invaded by ICE agents and taking me away. I got totally paranoid and would rather do without than have fear of going to prison for microdosing mushrooms. What in heaven's name has Trump done to me?

R32 There is a microdosing subreddit that could give you much more information about making the transition from SSRIs to microdosing mushrooms safely and quickly. From my understanding though, you don't have to wait until they're completely out of your system before it'll start to have an effect--just mostly.

I've been doing this for over a year and have recommended it in many depression threads.
All of those upsides are what I felt too - but also did not 'spiral' with negative thoughts. They come in, I analyze the thought - and then call it bullshit and wipe it away.
Many studies have shown that it actually changes your brain - effortlessly. That's what you need to get out of depression and negative thinking.
Congrats to you - did you start because of something you read here?

R33 0.25 grams is what I landed on after a bit of experimentation. I started with .1 grams which wasn't quite enough, nor was 1.5 grams. So I quickly moved up to .3 grams which was just a little bit too much. .25 was just right though. It will be different for everyone though.
I'm 5'10" and 170 if that matters, but I think it will have more to do with the way your body metabolizes individual psychedelics than anything else. I think I have a slightly higher tolerance for mushrooms but a VERY low tolerance for THC. One little puff of weed from a vape pen has me stoned off my tits for 6-7 hours.

R44 Actually my sister in law turned me on to it. She uses it to treat PMDD (which is in her words "PMS on PCP") to great success and hasn't stopped talking about it for months. What she said it helped the most with was the irrational rage it would cause, and I was like, hey, that kinda speaks to me.
Ever since the 2024 election there has just been so much turmoil and fear and upheaval, I don't even know what's chemical or environmental anymore when it comes to my malaise, but frankly it doesn't much matter, because my environment can't be changed, but my brain can be. Mushrooms help and there's nothing about them that's unhealthy or addictive, so why not embrace them? A lot more people have turned to weed to deal with their anxiety, but that only further disconnects and dissociates--I want the opposite. I want more tolerance, more empathy, more peace. Mushrooms do that for me (and apparently lots of other people too).

R44 Oh, and congratulations to you as well for finding mushrooms and healing through them. I'm hoping more and more of these online dispensaries pop up to make them more accessible to people. Everyone is walking around these days like frayed wires (for good reason), and anything that provides some relief from that is a godsent.
