I hope they do Weekend Update like a North Korean Broadcast.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 5, 2025 1:22 AM |
Good Roo, Emoji Tiger host.
Does you care?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 5, 2025 1:23 AM |
I cares.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 5, 2025 1:29 AM |
I can't wait to see all the new white people who only have online video/stand-up experience and little to no fluency in live sketch work!
And the Black MAGA podcast guy!
This is a formula for major success!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 5, 2025 1:42 AM |
Will they bring up the MAGA Superbowl meltdown?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 5, 2025 1:49 AM |
Are we still on the air??

I wonder if Sinclair and Nexstar are going to get their nipples in a wringer over "community standards".
Fuck them.

Jost as Hegseth.
Interesting choice.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 5, 2025 3:32 AM |
I'm excited to see downer lesbian Wickline make us suffer thru another season.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 5, 2025 3:32 AM |
R10, I believe he's played him before.
LOL, I like Trump's new bird's nest hairdo. Very observant hair department.

Is Dismukes a white name?

Hello Tommy!!!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 5, 2025 3:38 AM |
Is it me - or do these new cast members look like infants?
Are they all early 20s?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 5, 2025 3:39 AM |
What's with the shades? Is he hiding from ICE?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 5, 2025 3:39 AM |
I fucking despise Jon Hamm....
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 5, 2025 3:41 AM |
Jeesh - if you're gonna have a guest host - they should at least speak English.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 5, 2025 3:42 AM |
BAD Bunny? More like Bisexual Bunny. Wait for his "good friend" Pedro to show up...
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 5, 2025 3:45 AM |
Love Bad Bunny, my fellow Puerto Rican
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 5, 2025 3:45 AM |
Game Show!
So original.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 5, 2025 3:45 AM |
Every sketch should involve Marcelo wearing nothing but a fig leaf.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 5, 2025 3:45 AM |
This is really bad for a season opener. Is this truly the best they could do?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 5, 2025 3:48 AM |
Hopefully, this is the year that puts a stake in the heart of this fucking mess!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 5, 2025 3:49 AM |
So the new castmember in the incredibly original “Jeopardy” game show sketch, is the show’s new version of “Kristen Wiig”?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 5, 2025 3:50 AM |
It literally just started r24. This is the first skit
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 5, 2025 3:50 AM |
The Jeopardy skit is laugh free.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 5, 2025 3:51 AM |
The premise of the Jeopardy! sketch was so dumb it would have been rejected as too old-hat 50 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 5, 2025 3:51 AM |
R26, I think Ashley Padilla is the new version of Kristen Wiig. This new chick is some sort of sitcom girl next door reject.
R27, if it starts out with such a stale, unfunny skit, it doesn't get better.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 5, 2025 3:54 AM |
Two sketches in and this is worse than the 1980-81 season.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 5, 2025 3:58 AM |
At least one of the new guys is kinda hot.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 5, 2025 4:00 AM |
Lame
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 5, 2025 4:03 AM |
The writing is not great, but Bad Bunny is game and not bad at sketch.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 5, 2025 4:04 AM |
R43, that's like being kind of pregnant. You either are or you aren't. He isn't.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 5, 2025 4:05 AM |
Will tonight’s episode go into overtime to give him a chance to complete all his sketch lines?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 5, 2025 4:05 AM |
What the fuck with this show tonight? Who the hell are these asian chicks?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 5, 2025 4:06 AM |
This is the best NBC production from a non-English-speaking host who memorized their dialogue phonetically since Pink Lady and Jeff.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 5, 2025 4:08 AM |
I’d love to hear Chloe expand her vocalizations by learning to portray at least one character in her career who doesn’t speak using her one-note Valley Girl Teen accent.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 5, 2025 4:09 AM |
Is the theme from Knight Rider?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 5, 2025 4:12 AM |
This performer’s what happens when Frankenstein and his Bride give birth to Shirley Temple.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 5, 2025 4:14 AM |
Is this the Halloween show? The Rocky Horror Picture Show is alive and well in 2025. Somebody call a medic, Doja Cat has TB.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 5, 2025 4:14 AM |
So that was Doja Cat. Okay.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 5, 2025 4:14 AM |
It's sad SNL didn't have Doja Cat on years ago to do Say So and Kiss Me More, two actual pop hits that have a chance of enduring, instead of this belabored crap.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 5, 2025 4:15 AM |
Doja Cat reminds me of a Klaus Nomi update.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 5, 2025 4:15 AM |
Leslie Jones with a mustache. It just keeps getting worser and worser.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 5, 2025 4:22 AM |
R44 her being on years ago wouldn’t mean she wouldn’t be on now…
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 5, 2025 4:23 AM |
This new guy sketching on news desk tonight is funny and standout…how?!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 5, 2025 4:23 AM |
I can understand Kam Patterson less than Bad Bunny.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 5, 2025 4:24 AM |
This episode is no worse than the last few years lmao.
And this is far from the worst since 1980. 1994 and 1985 still exist.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 5, 2025 4:25 AM |
R47, I mean that those songs deserve to be in the canon of SNL performances, not this.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 5, 2025 4:25 AM |
Say goodnight, Kam.
And call me!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 5, 2025 4:25 AM |

All of this torture and now a wardrobe malfunction featuring Yang's nipple. MAKE IT STOP.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 5, 2025 4:27 AM |
Bowen = mute
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 5, 2025 4:27 AM |
A crotch shot mishap? They're going to get fined for that one.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 5, 2025 4:29 AM |
R31 yeah no. Look up 1985 and 1994. 1980, 1985 and 1994 were the seasons where SNL was closest to being canceled and Lorne himself said the 1994 season almost got him fired by NBC. It was the closest he got to being fired. They were fuming how bad it all was.
So no, this isn’t the worst since1980.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 5, 2025 4:29 AM |
Bowen is the only funny cast member left.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 5, 2025 4:31 AM |
Bowen sucks.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 5, 2025 4:36 AM |
Who was that who got a round of applause when he suddenly walked into the sketch?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 5, 2025 4:37 AM |
R57, R31 didn't say it was the worst SINCE 1981. R31 said it was worse than "the 80-81 season."
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 5, 2025 4:40 AM |
Doja Cat does Georgia O'Keeffe.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 5, 2025 4:41 AM |
Benecio Del Toro, R60

R60, I believe it was Benecio Del Toro.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 5, 2025 4:45 AM |
Thanks R63 and R64.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 5, 2025 4:47 AM |
That big leafy red chair sure was an elaborate set piece to build for one throwaway three-minute song.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 5, 2025 4:48 AM |
I actually liked that song Doja sang
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 5, 2025 4:50 AM |
I don't understand why Ashley Padilla was retained. She gives serious Beth Cahill/Nancy Walls energy.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 5, 2025 4:53 AM |
Terrible. Grade F.
Five new cast members, seven new writers, no signs of life or hope.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 5, 2025 4:55 AM |
What the FUCK is this? LAUGH TRACKS? Seriously?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 5, 2025 4:58 AM |
what will Colin Jost do once SNL is off the air?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 5, 2025 5:04 AM |
Two lame Superbowl jokes. The show overall stayed away from politics except for the open. It's a shame that they seem to be scared of the administration.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | October 5, 2025 5:08 AM |
I usually don’t mind the show and occasionally laugh but this is unforgivable.

by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 5, 2025 7:49 AM |
R68, I was surprised Padilla was retained, but I’m glad she was. That sort of woman, the Jane Curtin type, often gets cut early while mediocre men stay on for seasons. Some of them could have been great if given a little more time.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 5, 2025 12:45 PM |
Bad Bunny didn't understand most of what he read off the cue cards.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | October 5, 2025 1:17 PM |
Bad Bunny is not good at this. I didn't laugh at anything except for Doja Cat's hot mess of a performance. The Chat GPT commercial was dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | October 5, 2025 2:16 PM |
Did Pedro show up? I drifted off during Doja’s first set. I love Pedro.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | October 5, 2025 2:18 PM |
I’m not convinced Doja Cat “sang” anything in that second song aside from the rappy parts. And, I’ve got nothing against Bad Bunny but you can’t do comedy in the US without a command of the English language. No comedic timing whatsoever. And that the post-monologue choice was a one-note Jeopardy sketch told you everything you needed to know about the quality of everything else coming. Poehler will hopefully right the ship next week.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 5, 2025 2:24 PM |
R83 good thing he isn’t a comedian but a huge star who they asked to host.
STFU and know your place.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | October 5, 2025 2:26 PM |
r75, because it attracts the viewer demographics advertisers want to reach. Same reason why Kimmel was called back and Roseanne wasn't.

Bad show. Bad host. Bad musical guest. Give it up, Lorne.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | October 5, 2025 3:21 PM |
[R84] Right, a huge star… who should have remained the musical guest. Let people shine where their talents lie. Also, It’s not entirely his fault, the writing was terrible. A season premiere should come out of the gates at full power.

Here's why Jane Wickline is still around according to the internets: SNL Cast Member Jane Wickline is daughter of former Letterman writer, Mathew Wickline, and Marcella Hardart, a former personal Assistant to Lorne Michaels.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | October 5, 2025 4:51 PM |
Well, we knew she wasn't there because she's talented.

by Anonymous | reply 93 | October 5, 2025 4:54 PM |
Godawful big season opener. Supposed to be this big new thing with a big new cast and it was just sad, tired, relentlessly dreary shit. Lorne Michaels really needs to throw in the towel and say either I'm done or hand the show over to somebody who actually still gives a shit.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | October 5, 2025 5:32 PM |
R71 He will be the new host of Jeopardy.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | October 5, 2025 5:43 PM |
I tend to dismiss all the hyper ventilating that people go through to try and out trash SNL to one another. It’s a trite national pastime at this point.
But what I will say is that the first episode of a season should be top notch as they’ve all had months of time to write good stuff. I get it when things the season goes on and time each week gets crunched with only a week to write, prepare and execute a show. But you had all summer and the best you could do was that Jeopardy skit? Seriously?
I did think the Spanish language sketch was serviceable and a great idea, but under developed. When they said “why is a dress a male noun?”, I was half expecting Nate Bargatze to come on stage and say “nobody knows”.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | October 5, 2025 5:49 PM |
Wow, that was a season opener that NEEDS to be shut down by the FCC.
What a worthless piece of shit.
What will Amy do?
by Anonymous | reply 97 | October 5, 2025 8:34 PM |
It really was an awful season opener. I honestly root for SNL too. My friends make fun of me because I watch every Saturday night. There was zero funny going on last night.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | October 5, 2025 10:18 PM |
Quite frankly, I really hope this show continues to suck this season and suffers a serious rating dip so NBC will either have to cancel the show or Loren to retire and the replacement will immediately cut the cast in half.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | October 5, 2025 10:29 PM |
I just finished watching and agree it was terrible. The only parts I enjoyed were Jost as Pete Hegseth and Yang’s wardrobe malfunction. I don’t listen to Bad Bunny or the female singer so they lost me there. He seemed game, but that’s about it.
I wondered how they would put this together on time when they were still hiring in September. I can see now they need more time. This was utter shit.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | October 5, 2025 10:44 PM |
I have come to conclusion I've aged out of SNL. Been a good run, ha ha. I started watching in 1989 and as a 13 year old thought the cast was full of sophisticated adults and very New York. They did not seem like my peers, which is what I guest the cast would seem like now to a teenager.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | October 5, 2025 10:51 PM |
I enjoyed the high school counselor flirting with the parent, and I enjoyed Weekend Update. Jeopardy was cringe. I gotta say. Bad Bunny is HOT. I'm a fan.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | October 5, 2025 10:54 PM |
I don’t feel I’ve aged out of the show - the musical guests, definitely (I’m 60).
It all starts with the writing and the show does occasionally write good sketches. The taped skits are probably what they do best. I’ve watched since I was 10 and don’t plan to stop, but last night should have been much, much better.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | October 5, 2025 11:00 PM |
Last years opener was bad too.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | October 6, 2025 12:14 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 105 | October 6, 2025 1:22 AM |
They really don’t have a lot of women this season-2 in the regular cast, and 3 featured players. I think the last time there were so few women on the show was in the piggish Farley/Sandler/Spade seasons.

Why would they have had months of time to write? You expect them to work during their time off? Most of the writers didn’t even know if they were going to be back until the last minute.

Yeah R106, when they had Chloe and Sarah in one of the first sketches, I thought something was missing. Then I realized they used to write sketches for the female cast members as a group a lot and I missed Ego and Heidi.

Bad Bunny proved he is no actor. His sketches were embarrassing. And while not everyone has mastered the King's English, he desperately needs to find a coach who can help him get better in his line readings. Much of what he said on air was nearly unintelligible.
Overall, the season debut was one of the worst in recent memory. And casting Colin Jost as Pete Hegseth was a mistake.

I'm old. I remember Belushi and Dan Ackroyd, and Gilda. OMG Gilda. Teaming her up with Bill Murray was hysterical. Then, later, Seth Myers, Bill Hader, Darryl Hammond Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Kristen Wiig, Fallon was funny in skits. Dana Carvey, Martin Short as Grimley, and Steve Martin. Good Times.

Here’s the deal with the casting that r118 and r119 mentioned. They were about HALF the cast SNL has this season and the last several seasons and yet the comedy was CONSISTENTLY MUCH BETTER than what we’ve had, again, in the last several years.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | October 6, 2025 1:54 PM |
It’s the writing. It’s been the writing for years now. While the show has always had a youthful streak, it used to feel more adult, with a touch of sophistication. Modern SNL feels very young and often childish.
The cast has been too big for a while, and I would argue the past 10 years has featured the least impressive cast in the show’s history. But I don’t think any cast could elevate the bad material.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | October 6, 2025 3:53 PM |
[quote] 1985 and 1994 were the seasons where SNL was closest to being canceled and Lorne himself said the 1994 season almost got him fired by NBC. It was the closest he got to being fired. They were fuming how bad it all was.
What happened in 1994 that almost got him fired? Wasn’t that the golden years with Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Victoria Jackson, GAP girls?
by Anonymous | reply 122 | October 6, 2025 5:00 PM |
Don Ohlmeyer was an NBC executive who became tasked with overseeing SNL in 1993. Unlike previous NBC executives, he was very involved in SNL and gave Lorne a lot of input and direction on what needed to improve . Ohlmeyer was good friends with OJ Simpson, and in 1998 he forced the firing of Norm MacDonald and writer Jim Downey , because they kept mocking OJ during Weekend Update.
By the 1994-95 season, SNL felt tired. Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman were gone. Mike Myers was half out the door. The humor with Spade/Farley/Sandler had become infantile. Lorne hired known actors to beef up the cast, like Janeane Garofalo, Chris Elliott, Mark McKinney and Michael McKean, but the cast was bloated and they didn’t have much to do. Garofalo went to press and complained about the show while on the show-the “Saturday Night Dead” articles started popping up in the press.
Additionally, it was known that Fox planned to launch Mad TV in the fall of 1995 as SNL’s competition, at a time when SNL’s ratings were dippinG.
As a result, Lorne’s job was on the line going into the 1995-96 season. To keep it, he had to agree to fire Sandler and Farley; demote Jim Downey from head writer to Weekend Update writer (which is why he was later fired); and demote David Spade to a one minute appearance on Update.
Lorne then sourced new talent, like Cheri Oteri, Will Ferrell, etc., and the show started to improve in the ratings and reviews.

Yes, Cajun is White, descending from Acadians, who were white French-Canadians living in the Acadia region of Canada.
They migrated to Louisiana to be closer to other French during the American Revolution, once they felt threatened by the British.
They interweaved with the BLACK CREOLE people to some degree, but not a great degree. So many folks think Cajun means Black, but it usually doesn't. Some Cajun have a bit of Creole in them, and vice versa.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | October 6, 2025 8:08 PM |
I’ve always felt there is a little revisionist history around the idea that Sandler and Farley were “fired.” Sure, in technical terms, maybe. But everyone knew that 1994 cast was not coming back. It was a disaster of a season. Mike Meyers left halfway through the year. Farley and Sandler and some others were already halfway out the door with their other projects. Others, like Rock and Hartman, had already left a year or two before. Frankly, the bigger surprise was that David Spade, one of the other “boys” from those years, stayed into the next season. It was universally known that 1995–96 was going to be an overhaul.

I think I'm the only one who really enjoyed the 10-4 episode. I thought BB was fine as host, and did well in his sketches. Weekend Update could have been better. It was nice not to see Heidi Gardner in ever sketch for a change. I FF my DVR during Doja Cat.

I think the inferior writing reflects both the staff and the audience being much different from the audiences and writers from previous successful seasons. I'm trying to say that people don't have much life experience, people aren't very observant of human behavior, and honestly they're not as educated or mature as previous audiences and staff. These writers suck. B ut they're trying to accommodate the data analysts who are profiling their audiences.
