Tasteful Friends: Brentwood ranch once owned by Robert Taylor and Barbara Stanwyck available for $70M

It's the largest single-family residential lot in Los Angeles. Realtor listing in next post

[QUOTE]The ranch encompasses a total of 112 acres of private canyon trails with views that stretch from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, 13 of which is flat land, with three residences totaling 20,000 square feet of designer-renovated living space.

[QUOTE]In addition, to the delight of developers far and wide, it also includes eight Assessor’s Parcel Numbers, which would allow the new owner to divide the massive property into eight separate lots. There’s absolutely nothing like it in this area.

I find the main house's ceilings too low for its size. It gives a bit of claustrophobic feel despite the open spaces and indoor/outdoor layout. Beautiful grounds and landscaping.

Ideal for a billionaire with kids with horsey interests and who wants privacy. Or a developer willing to undertake the work to separate eight properties and construct.

The effect seems to be a human version of horse stalls.

by Anonymousreply 2October 4, 2025 3:56 PM

Not bad for a chorus girl.

by Anonymousreply 3October 4, 2025 4:00 PM

I wonder where that blue bookcase secret door leads to?

by Anonymousreply 4October 4, 2025 4:05 PM

If I needed to raise 6 children again, I would ask for that property as part of my divorce settlement.

I think that ranch home is awesome! I wouldn't change much in that home.

by Anonymousreply 5October 4, 2025 5:12 PM

I love all of it. It’s like they thought of everything, theres even a dog washing station. The ceilings are not too low, it’s a ranch ffs. I’d build a fire wall though, clear a swath around the perimeter.

by Anonymousreply 6October 4, 2025 5:12 PM

^^^I saw the dog washing station-I had one put in because of all the animals I raised over the years( plus the kids)^^^

Architect Robert Byrd also designed the Tate/Polanski house at 10050 Cielo Drive.

by Anonymousreply 8October 4, 2025 5:28 PM

It's okay, I suppose. It's very well done and while it would be interesting to visit the property, it's not at all for me, nevermind the cost. I'm just not the ranch/horsey type who wants to live in a traditional California ranch style house/compound.

The setting and grounds are impressive, but I grew up surrounded by (and separated from the world) by a few hundreds of acres of land. I wouldn't rush to repeat it unless it were a choice English country house or an Andalucian finca.

by Anonymousreply 9October 4, 2025 6:11 PM

Bought for $18 million 10 years ago. Ridiculous.

I like it - but not many windows. I just see openings to a patio - but not from all rooms.

I don't love the cliche upgrades and furniture staging - but it is a beautiful house. And 112 acres is massive.

by Anonymousreply 10October 4, 2025 6:19 PM

That sunset in the listing photo is gorgeous!

by Anonymousreply 11October 4, 2025 6:31 PM

IF I had 70 mil or so for a home, and IF I were the “horsey” type, I would buy this immediately; all-in-all, quite fabulous ! ( might not even need to be a “horsey” type; maybe just a bunch of studs to ride, and then brush down…)

by Anonymousreply 12October 4, 2025 6:36 PM

IF I had 70 mil or so for a home, and IF I were the “horsey” type, I would buy this in an instant; quite fabulous ! ( I might not even need to be a “horsey” type; just a herd of studs to ride to a lather and then brush down).

I could really enjoy living there-- it's like it was built just for me.

by Anonymousreply 14October 4, 2025 6:45 PM

Does it have its own Big Valley?

by Anonymousreply 15October 4, 2025 6:46 PM

To give you an idea of its size - This is 112 acres. Disneyland is only 85 acres.

by Anonymousreply 16October 4, 2025 6:47 PM

There's a double-dildo hidden under the bedroom closet floorboard.

by Anonymousreply 17October 4, 2025 6:51 PM

Imagine all of the sex that never happened there between them

by Anonymousreply 18October 4, 2025 6:53 PM

Barbara Stanwyk was married? 🤣

by Anonymousreply 19October 4, 2025 6:55 PM

I recall some wonderful Christmas parties in that barn thrown by Miss Stanwyck

by Anonymousreply 20October 4, 2025 7:11 PM

Does it include a leprechaun?

by Anonymousreply 21October 4, 2025 7:12 PM

The text in the Variety piece reports that Robert Byrd designed it in 1950, but if so it must have been an extensive remodel since Stanwyck and Taylor were divorcing by then, ostensibly over his affair with Ava Gardner, though he considered the marriage over by the time he returned to Hollywood after the war.

He had outgrown his mommy.

R8 Interesting, thanks for sharing that. When I was skimming the listing photos, a lot of them reminded me of the original Cielo property. Now I know why.

R14 I'm going to be kind and assume it was the Carrie Bradshaw luxury master suite closet that won you over. Rather than anything having to do with horses, stables, and ranch living.

by Anonymousreply 24October 4, 2025 8:05 PM

[quote]Barbara Stanwyk was married?

They all had to get married back in those days, even if they were gay like Stanwyck and Taylor. Heterosexual couples living together was extremely taboo, which is ridiculous to think about now but back then it was a big deal. That's why all the old movie stars had multiple marriages.

by Anonymousreply 25October 4, 2025 9:05 PM

Those photos are color enhanced to make the place look much better than it really is.

by Anonymousreply 27October 4, 2025 9:11 PM

Why so cheap?

by Anonymousreply 28October 4, 2025 9:20 PM

Looks like color film of the period to me, r27.

by Anonymousreply 29October 4, 2025 9:22 PM

R29 I was referring to the OP's link to the real estate listing, not the old photo of Taylor & Stanwyck. Most of the high dollar estates you see on these real estate sites are color enhanced.

by Anonymousreply 30October 4, 2025 9:30 PM

Oh, r30, of course.

At which home did RJ Wagner bang her hard in the pool?

by Anonymousreply 34October 5, 2025 4:10 AM

The one in RJ Wagner's imagination

by Anonymousreply 35October 5, 2025 1:17 PM

R34 RJ joined the endless list (sans Lassie) of Mrs. Steeles conquests -in a pool.

Writer doesn’t seem to know that Stanwyck was the bigger star, not just a “wife.”

by Anonymousreply 37October 5, 2025 2:46 PM

He once signed an orange for me at "Farmer's Market"!

by Anonymousreply 38October 5, 2025 2:52 PM

Funny how he’s almost totally forgotten, I can’t think of a single movie he starred in, but Stanwyck isn’t.

There are a few photos of the original interior here:

I think this was where Bob and his second wife lived not Stanwyck.

by Anonymousreply 43October 5, 2025 8:08 PM

I knew Taylor was hung but who knew it needed that much room?

by Anonymousreply 44October 5, 2025 8:32 PM

[Quote] I can’t think of a single movie he starred in,

Oh my god you amateur, you mean you didn’t know he starred in Magnificent Obsession, Waterloo Bridge and Bataan?

by Anonymousreply 45October 5, 2025 8:36 PM

Not so funny, R39. Taylor was a miserable actor, just pitiful.

Does anyone know what the cabinet with the clear plastic door is for?

by Anonymousreply 48October 5, 2025 10:31 PM

R47 My guess is it's the sauna.

by Anonymousreply 49October 5, 2025 10:44 PM

Aside from the obvious fire risk....did anyone else check out the "Flood Zone" map/satellite view of this property? (with the denuded hillsides). Yikes.
