Why doesn't Congress negotiate in public?

I just heard Schumer answer a reporter's question by saying "I'm not going to negotiate in public." Maybe it's time for the public to see how the sausage is made.

Because in public it will be posturing and soundbites.

People need to be free to explore potential compromises without having an angry base weigh in on every idea and without having their political enemies exploit what they say.

And that’s why Schumer’s ineffective.

He should be shouting for all to hear what MAGA’s up to and what the Dems are doing to stop them. If anything.

R1 Isn't that what it is now? CSPAN should be allowed in.

I was going to say the same reason EL Chapo didn't negotiate in public but that would be implying congress had the capacity for shame.
