Mariah Carey wants to headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show
It's just incredible that the biggest selling female artist post 1991 hasn't been asked to do it. She has a HUGE library of number one singles. Plus, a brand-new album out that is getting raves.
I mean, Bad Bunny is cute but come on. There's no comparison to Mimi.

Mariah is not half time material

Isn't she a demanding pain in the ass? Maybe thats why she was never asked.......

Do we know she hasn't been asked before? Maybe she has and at the time didn't want to do it.

Please. She can't even get through one song on New Year's Rockin' Eve.

Nobody wants to hear Christmas music in February.

I think the ubiquitous Dame Helen Mirren should play the acoustic mandolin, perhaps slip a nip in a homage to her get her kit off past. I’d also like to see Petula Clark and her well camouflaged colostomy bag.

Mimi allows almost as many Macy’s Thanksgiving Day covers of her Christmas song as George Michael does of Last Christmas.

Mariah doesn't have the razzle dazzle factor. All she does these days is walk around the stage and occassionally squeeze out the few notes she can still manage to sing now that her voice is pretty much blown out.
She couldn't handle a Super Bowl level performance.

Mariah is a boring live performer. She can barely hit those high notes, has no stage presence, low energy, and a practically non-existent choreography consisting of shimmies and lifts.

Because it says so in the header the OP posted R3

If she's going to sit and answer questions like I've seen her do in memes then I'm all for it. "Aaron Mr. Rogers or something. I don't know her."

I’m actually genuinely surprised that she wasn’t asked to do it back in the 90s or during the mid to late 2000s after her comeback.

She’d be a terrible choice now, but there was a point in time where she probably could have put on a great show.

Mariah Carey? Why didn’t you just suggest Hildegard Von Bingen and be done with it, OP?

Mariah of the 90s/early 2000s might have been good. See how fabulous she was during her MTV Unplugged special. But, sometime in the 2000s something really fizzled with her as a live performer. She became so STIFF and awkward and downright uncharismatic on stage. Not to mention, way too many ballads and mid-tempos in her catalog for a Half Time show. The ONLY possibility I can imagine is her being the featured/surprise guest of a younger headliner (like Ariana Grande.)

Once upon a time, she’d have been great…but now it would just be a train wreck.

She'd put on a giant ball gown and stand there and sing her uptempo songs while six twentysomethings would hip hop dance behind her.

I was going to post something but then saw R10's post who has summarized Mariah Carey perfectly. The talent she had which set her apart has long gone. Because she was always a non-performing artist (dancing, stage presence etc.) her talent was in her stunning vocals. She was a recording artist - not a grand concert performer which is what the Super Bowl Halftime Show requires. But her voice is shot now and she's become very, very entitled and difficult because she believes her own PR and she just stands there like a wet lump seething about being there whenever she rarely performs live these days. Her time would have been the 90s or early 2000s. Unfortunately, she missed the boat.
And obviously she's not the best selling female artist post 1991. Otherwise OP would have posted a corroborating link to substantiate his wild, madeup claim.

She'll have to change her name to Bad Pussy.

She does everything in slow motion during her concerts. Terrible performer.
Can you even imagine how boring her half time show would be?

I don't remember the name of the music producer, but I remember him calling out Mariah for arriving to work unrehearsed and unprepared. Then there's her former choreographer, Anthony Burrell, who said "When Mariah doesn't want to do something, she doesn't do it."
If Mariah wants to do a half time show, she's going to have to put in the effort.

I can’t remember her having a tour that was a big spectacle with visuals, dancing etc…I think she does okay with the abbreviated scaled down shows like her Christmas tours and Vegas like shows.
Maybe sing the national anthem.

Soundscan (which is the most accurate as it tracks physical sales) had her as the biggest female selling artist. It's not fudged like RIAA and Billboard with smoke and mirrors.
This is a message board post that talks about it.
If you don't like it, find one that proves different. But you can't.

I hate this woman - so arrogant and so much attitude when she's not THAT pretty, she looks like a stuffed sausage in a streetwalker's outfit, she doesn't tour hardly at all because she can't replicate the studio sessions on her records - and now we've found out recently she manipulated song sales to get many of those #1s.
She's an industry fraud.
Sorry but if you're not a live singer - you're not a singer. End of story.
She whisper coos through so much of her songs and the belts out a loud note or an extremely high note to make it sound like she's some amazing singer. She can do a couple of pony tricks - that's it.
She's a fraud - and Tommy Mottolla bought her career. It feels good that we finally have the receipts - because I've disliked her for 35 years.

We were invited to the neighbors' patio last night & Mariah's new album was playing. I tried my best to tune it out with the conversation, but it was nothing but autotune & tightly produced hack. Nothing sounded genuine, which coming from someone who's highly regarded for her voice was surprising. The half-hour it lasted seemed longer than a half-hour of The Neighborhood.

Mariah is an example of someone with natural talent who worked hard (and fucked hard) to get to where she was and who then started to believe her own hype. Now she's become a lazy, entitled diva.

Not to be a contrarian, but I adore her. Loved her since I first saw her on SNL in 1990, seen her in concert half a dozen time, the whole nine yards. I even think the new album is serviceable!
That said, her voice is toast. Even if the halftime shows are mostly lip synced now, any ad-libbing she does would be off key and her voice would creak and crack like a pubescent boy’s. They should have let her do it in 1997-98 when she had the Rainbow album out. She already had at least a dozen #1s by that point, and they could have trotted out Jay Z as special guest to do Heartbreaker together (which was her biggest hit at that moment).

R30 No, she’s not. In the US, it is only because of the streaming of her Xmas song. WW she is way down the list.
You want to impugn RIAA (which does audits). SS can absolutely be manipulated. SS didn’t cover the entire country for a long time, either.
She’d be the worst choice. Easily the majority of her #1s are through hard core chart manipulation. Billboard has had to change their rules because of her so many times.

R40 bullshit. It was because of JLo Billboard had to change their rules. She released two completely different songs, calling one the remix of the other (all they had in common was the title). Old Billboard rules combined their sales & airplay, giving her a #1.
Ironically both songs JLo cheated the charts with were rip offs of Mariah. Her vengeful ex-husband Tommy Motola had producers copy Mariah's songs from Glitter (a much stronger album than it gets credit for), then JLo released the rip-off versions first.

She is heavily medicated for her mental illnesses, and she's usually drunk. A live show is a no go for Mariah.
