Two days ago, when I was out for a walk, I spoke to one of my neighbors, a self-proclaimed (short) 300 pounder, pasty-white, full of himself, probably 40, with his dead ass plopped down in a kiddie pool. I only know this guy because he's let me park my MC in his yard while I visit the guy next door to him, who has a driveway impossible to navigate. Anyway, I happened to mention that I guess I should be grateful to live in a red state in a very red county, because at least I don't have to worry about Trumps sending troops here.

And of course, he started pompously ranting about how Trump should put more troops in more places to take out all the "libs."

I posted this on the "Third Party" thread. Reposting here if you missed it....All we do is lose. We've been losing for decades. I don't see any way a Democrat can win the White House now. We don't have the statewide infrastructure to make us nationally competitive anymore. They would have to run a JD Vance on the top of their ticket (which will never happen).

The graphic along with the Trump administration's background work which they are implementing now so that there will be the appearance of free and fair elections but using various tactics such as cowered media, corporate capitulation, justice system capture, captured public service, ICE and paramilitary in the streets, terrorizing blue cities and peoples etc. to ensure that the Democrats can't win again. Sure the Dems will get plenty of votes but they just won't be able to win again. They are using the Orbán/Hungary playbook. One thing we know from human history is that authoritarian regimes don't willingly cede power.

I genuinely don't understand 90% of the posts in this thread. I think this entire thread demonstrates how clueless most Americans are about what has happened to the US and about what is currently happening.

Trump is correct. There has been little to no resistance from the left. They clearly told us that the US was in the midst of a “second American Revolution” and that it would be bloodless “if the left allows it to be.”

And we have allowed it to be.

That’s a cherry-picked comparison with 1992 and 2024. First, there was a third party candidate, so Clinton only got 43% of the vote. He won because Ross Perot picked off conservatives incensed that Bush raised taxes. Second, it ignores the very red elections in 1980, 1984, and 1988 as well as the very blue elections in 2008, 2012 and even 2020. In all cases, showing who won doesn’t show how much they won by - which is critical to understanding their strength.

Democrats have a regional challenge, but solving it will need to involve targeted mass hypnosis. Or broadening the tent to include people like pro-life or business-friendly or gun-toting Democrats.

Clinton and Obama were both moderates. Biden was elected as a moderate but catered too much to the left as Pres. Only a moderate can be elected President but the Dem base who votes in primaries are mostly progressives. I don’t see a solution to this problem anytime soon.

American elections are almost never decided over policy. Trump beat Clinton and Harris because, for enough people, he seemed more powerful. Just as Obama beat Romney and especially McCain because he seemed more vibrant and capable. Just as Bush beat Kerry and Gore, just as his father beat Dukakis.

If you took policy and experience and character away from the equation, you’ll see that a lot of Americans vote solely on personality. The exception is when the personality is at odds with the economic or political moment, as Trump was in 2020.

I've seen various movements via social media telling black people not to engage. I think that's smart, because that's the group he really wants to set off. I don't know what happened to all the pro-Palestine marches; maybe they've just stopped here.
