The Chevron refinery in El Segundo near the airport is on fire
It not a question of "if," but "How many?"

Lovely El Segundo, "Where the Sewers Meet the Sea."

Fun fact: El Segundo got its name because it was the home to the second ("segundo") Standard Oil of California refinery. (The first was in Richmond, CA.)

This will just accelerate its closure. Finally.

The Chevron refinery takes up a quarter of the entire city of El Segundo.

You could fit a whole other Beach City in the space this thing takes up.

A particularly annoying former boss lives there.
So…. ha.

The beaches along Santa Monica Bay used to be filled with oil derricks. There was a lot of oil there which is why they built it there
Everything has been drained out but you can still see nodding donkeys when you drive on La Cienaga through Baldwin Hills on the way to the airport.

This refinery produces a fifth of all motor vehicle fuels and 40% of the jet fuel consumed in southern California. Fire was in the jet fuel unit. It's contained now but it's very concerning.
That being said, I dislike El Segundo fundies and their Mayberry crap very much.
