Do you live in a blue state or a red state?

Blue for me. All of the New England States are blue.

by Anonymousreply 66October 6, 2025 5:08 AM

No judgement, I'm just curious. OK, nosy.

by Anonymousreply 1October 3, 2025 12:17 AM

Blue. I was born and raised in Portland, OR and still live in the area. I was exposed to extreme counterculture my entire life, which, believe it or not, actually DOES have some drawbacks. That being said, I'm grateful I wasn't brought up in an ultra red state.

by Anonymousreply 2October 3, 2025 12:18 AM

Red unfortunately. Gerrymandered to hell and back otherwise it would be purple, maybe blue.

by Anonymousreply 3October 3, 2025 12:20 AM

Blue. For now. I’m in NJ. Praying it stays that way.

by Anonymousreply 4October 3, 2025 12:25 AM

What do YOU think?

by Anonymousreply 5October 3, 2025 12:38 AM

Blue - I'm in CA

by Anonymousreply 6October 3, 2025 12:39 AM

Deep red Dixie

by Anonymousreply 7October 3, 2025 12:42 AM

Red, unfortunately. We're stuck here for the foreseeable future. And at 69, there isn't a whole shit-ton of future left. But luckily, we travel often (in Costa Rica right now).

by Anonymousreply 8October 3, 2025 12:43 AM

Georgia RED. I hate it here. Been here for ten years.

by Anonymousreply 9October 3, 2025 12:45 AM

I live in NYS - so fucked up right now. Blue, Red, Purple, Pink, who knows?! Where can I run away too? Maybe the Kingdom of Tonga?

by Anonymousreply 10October 3, 2025 12:55 AM

Williamson County, TN. Not so bad. Could be better. I keep a low profile. Wish I could make more friends. The Pride Festival last June attracted about 10,000 people, however.

by Anonymousreply 11October 3, 2025 12:59 AM

Washington is a blue state. East of the Cascade mountains but sparsely populated. The very blue Seattle area sets the tone of the state. I live in the Seattle area.

by Anonymousreply 12October 3, 2025 1:01 AM

I am from New England and moved to NYC after high school many years ago.

I never felt my upbringing was special or any nicer, but now seeing what many other states put up with I believe it was.

by Anonymousreply 13October 3, 2025 1:13 AM

Grateful to be in Blue Massachusetts but starting to wonder if Canada would be better.

by Anonymousreply 14October 3, 2025 1:16 AM

New Hampshire - seacoast

NH is purple in my opinion.

Way to republican for my taste.

by Anonymousreply 15October 3, 2025 1:17 AM

Blue.

by Anonymousreply 16October 3, 2025 1:19 AM

New Jersey… on the edge of blue/purple. Hoping it will shift back to blue post-Trump.

by Anonymousreply 17October 3, 2025 1:22 AM

Red. It’s Virginia so hopefully it goes blue in November. If that doesn’t happen I’m heading back to Massachusetts. Yes, I already voted for Spanberger.

by Anonymousreply 18October 3, 2025 1:31 AM

California blue

by Anonymousreply 19October 3, 2025 1:32 AM

What about Illinois? It's blue and I can't believe we don't have any Chicago types.

by Anonymousreply 20October 3, 2025 1:34 AM

Blue. California. I won the fucking lottery being born here.

by Anonymousreply 21October 3, 2025 1:41 AM

Texas. Red fascist hellhole.

by Anonymousreply 22October 3, 2025 1:42 AM

Red shithole

by Anonymousreply 23October 3, 2025 1:43 AM

I live in a Blue city in a Red State.

by Anonymousreply 24October 3, 2025 1:48 AM

I'm in that notorious war zone the beautiful blue Chicago, Illinois.

Shut the fuck up about Chicago!!!! (We love it here.)

by Anonymousreply 25October 3, 2025 2:01 AM

the swingingst swing state there is

by Anonymousreply 26October 3, 2025 2:17 AM

R26 - which one is that?

by Anonymousreply 27October 3, 2025 2:35 AM

More to the point, do you live in a blue county or a red county?

by Anonymousreply 28October 3, 2025 3:00 AM

one of the bluest counties ever, but yeah, if you look t every single election, we are the state that it comes down to

by Anonymousreply 29October 3, 2025 3:01 AM

I’m in the reddest precinct of a purple county seat of a ruby red county of a purple state.

by Anonymousreply 30October 3, 2025 3:19 AM

[quote]Blue. I was born and raised in Portland, OR and still live in the area. I was exposed to extreme counterculture my entire life, which, believe it or not, actually DOES have some drawbacks. That being said, I'm grateful I wasn't brought up in an ultra red state.

A good friend of mine left Portland several years ago and never went back. She went to live in a moderate state. I thought she was crazy to leave such a incredibly beautiful state, and even though she was one of the more liberal people I knew there had been pressure and rejection she had faced in Portland for not being extreme enough.

by Anonymousreply 31October 3, 2025 4:39 AM

OP, is Susan Collins your senator?

by Anonymousreply 32October 3, 2025 4:43 AM

Blue - Illinois, but "purple" area.

by Anonymousreply 33October 3, 2025 4:48 AM

One of the bluest areas in (what’s seen as) a reliably blue state.

But we’ve had our share of Republican governors and mayors. And our Democratic senators are close to useless.

by Anonymousreply 34October 3, 2025 11:06 AM

[quote]All of the New England States are blue.

OP, Maine and NH are considered swing states - they haven't been true blue in a very long time. (They did vote Blue in last year's Presidential election).

I'm in RI - true blue.

by Anonymousreply 35October 3, 2025 12:05 PM

Incompetent blue city of low-end do-nothings in a hateful red state of uneducated haters.

You know. Like half of the USA.

by Anonymousreply 36October 3, 2025 12:09 PM

R34, would that be Michigan?

by Anonymousreply 37October 3, 2025 2:01 PM

Blue Colorado and Super Blue Denver.

by Anonymousreply 38October 3, 2025 2:11 PM

I would be interested in seeing what people think about how well their state and local governments are run. I don’t mean anything related to cultural wars. I mean just the nuts and bolts of government operations, like police, fire, library, license branch, property appraisal, garbage, sewage, etc,

by Anonymousreply 39October 3, 2025 8:47 PM

R39 - why? People always bitch about something local that isn't perfect. There's always budget issues and claims of incompetence or wasteful money in every city or local government.

People like to bitch about what they perceive around them without having any clue as to how complicated the process is, laws that have to be followed, etc.

by Anonymousreply 40October 4, 2025 1:51 AM

Red as fuck Florida

by Anonymousreply 41October 4, 2025 1:53 AM

Blue

by Anonymousreply 42October 4, 2025 1:56 AM

Me, too, R41 -- but I spent 15 years living in a blue city. Too bad I don't live there anymore.

by Anonymousreply 43October 4, 2025 1:57 AM

I live in a perpetual state of aubergine.

by Anonymousreply 44October 4, 2025 1:58 AM

Hi, R37. No, not Michigan. New York.

by Anonymousreply 45October 4, 2025 2:00 AM

Are you a good witch, or a bad witch?

by Anonymousreply 46October 4, 2025 2:00 AM

[quote]People like to bitch about what they perceive around them without having any clue as to how complicated the process is, laws that have to be followed, etc.

Not to mention corruption on every level of government, from the Oval Office right down to your school department in many cities and towns.

by Anonymousreply 47October 4, 2025 12:27 PM

^^^Speaking of which, if you want to watch a (true) story about that with Hugh Jackson and Allison Janney, find Bad Education, which aired on HBO.

Blue. California. Currently traveling to visit in-laws in MA. We drove on country roads all over VT and NH and saw plenty of Pride flags everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 49October 4, 2025 1:14 PM

R48 No thanks. My city has been fighting school department corruption / politics for as long as I can remember, with no end in sight. I 'm living it via my taxes - don't need to see a movie about it.

by Anonymousreply 50October 4, 2025 1:15 PM

Speaking of politics and red / blue states, this is an appropriate story to share...

I'm friends of 25 years with this couple on FB in their mid-50s . Since Trump I, the wife went MAGA-crazy, and showed a side of her I'd never known (or would've guessed). She also joined the Evangelical church, and bases all her political / MAGA beliefs from her church. By mid-2017 I 'unfriended' her, as I didn't need her anti-liberal comments flooding my page. More importantly, I didn't want her showing up under my 'list of FB friends'. Her husband has stayed sane, doesn't post much political stuff - occasionally making a joke about something political post on my page, but all in good fun. The other day, though, he ripped a lot of people in his CT city for 'personally attacking his wife' in an interview she did with their local newspaper, as she's running for a seat on the town council this November. He says this is why no one wants to enter politics, no one wants to get involved - because the 'left' attacks. I decided to read the interview and the 'follow-up comments' to see what all the brouhaha was about.

In the interview, she made all her FOX / Hannity/ Trump talking points without skipping a beat. She backs up all her points with the Evangelical Church's teachings and quoting the Bible. So be it - this is what she believes in, this is what she's running on. She needs to hear feedback. The readers' comments following the interview weren't 'personally attacking her', they were sharing their political / religious beliefs to let her know why she'd never get their votes. Nothing wrong with that - this is what politics is all about. It was rather civil feedback from those in her community who would be voting for her. Some let her know that the 'Christianity' she was interpreting from the Bible didn't match up to what they were taught in their Catholic / Methodist / Episcopalian church - and they would cast their votes on what they were taught. Again, all very civil.

So many on her husband's page also found the interview and tried to explain this to him - no one was attacking, they were giving her solid feedback. That's politics. If you want votes, listen to what voters are saying. If you can't deliver - drop out. They're not going to blindly agree with any candidate.

I'm curious if she's going to stay in the race.

by Anonymousreply 51October 4, 2025 6:44 PM

Blue, avoiding red, not even a connecting flight.

by Anonymousreply 52October 5, 2025 12:23 AM

I live in a red state in the deep south. I've told this story before, but I was wearing a souvenir t-shirt from New York, and while waiting to get my car inspected the guy working there said "You shouldn't wear that around here. People might think you're a yankee."

by Anonymousreply 53October 5, 2025 4:26 PM

Live in Central VA - Albemarle County. Mostly blue due to lots of NOVA transplants/retirees. People here are pretty decent overall although the well heeled are kinda snooty.

Nice area, lots to do and plenty of shopping - it could be worse so I count myself as lucky to live where I do.

by Anonymousreply 54October 5, 2025 4:55 PM

I love a Southern liberal, dressed in pearls and armed with bourbon.

Blue, but it's slowly inching toward reddish based on the last few elections. God help me.

by Anonymousreply 56October 5, 2025 4:59 PM

True Blue California

by Anonymousreply 57October 5, 2025 5:05 PM

Purple state. I live in the blue section, which is smaller in terms of area than the red section, but has a larger percent of the population.

Incompetence and corruption can happen in any political machine, but on the whole Republican voters are more inclined to pretend it's not happening if it tickles their asses in the right way.

by Anonymousreply 58October 5, 2025 5:15 PM

R3 here. Should have added that at least my city is a blue part in a sea of red. At least for now. Surprised Hotwheels hasn't deployed the TX national guard by now.

by Anonymousreply 59October 5, 2025 5:47 PM

A couple of years ago I moved from Florida to CT for a job. Just in time! CT is pretty blue although there are pockets of little Magats here and there.

by Anonymousreply 60October 5, 2025 6:20 PM

Blue Cali

by Anonymousreply 61October 5, 2025 7:09 PM

I'm going to say Purple because Michigan tends to waffle, and I think my area went blue but there's a lot of red nearby

by Anonymousreply 62October 5, 2025 7:26 PM

I like blue states.

by Anonymousreply 63October 6, 2025 12:29 AM

You wanna talk about t-shirts, R53? I was in a restaurant yesterday in reliably blue St. Petersburg, FL, when a guy about 45 with a crew cut came in wearing a t-shirt that said, "Gulf of America, Est. 2025."

Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 64October 6, 2025 1:29 AM

Red.

by Anonymousreply 65October 6, 2025 2:23 AM

Blue. Massachusetts.
