Dennis Farina

The youngest son of a doctor, he shocked his Old Town neighborhood when he quit the Chicago Police Department to pursue his love of acting.

Within five years of quitting the force he became a reliable character actor in films Manhunter, Midnight Run, and Out of Sight are a few, and a leading man on television in Prime Time hits like Crime Story, Law & Order, and Unsolved Mysteries. Sadly, he passed away in 2013.

Sauvé, cool, and sophisticated, let's discuss the Sicilian character actor Dennis Farina.

He had the bad fortunate to replace the irreplaceable Jerry Orbach on Law & Order.

by Anonymousreply 1October 2, 2025 11:49 PM

He's just so charming

by Anonymousreply 2October 2, 2025 11:50 PM

He WAS Dennis Farina!

He never remarried after divorcing in 80 and quit a law enforcement gig to join a job in the arts?

Hmm? Are we sure he wasn’t family?

by Anonymousreply 5October 2, 2025 11:52 PM

It's impossible to be cool with a name like Farina.

Apparently not a dermatologist.

Good character actor

by Anonymousreply 8October 2, 2025 11:55 PM

R5 He had a female partner for years

by Anonymousreply 9October 2, 2025 11:55 PM

He loved wine and opera, but that was more about being Italian

by Anonymousreply 10October 2, 2025 11:56 PM

I bet she was bosomy.

by Anonymousreply 11October 2, 2025 11:56 PM

Would’ve.

As God as my witness, I’m sitting in what used to be his sofa. A white sectional. WHITE.

Loved him since I first saw him on Miami Vice. Great in Get Shorty. Fine as a replacement for Orbach in L&O. His response when doing questioned because he was doing something not quite legal was That’s okay, we’re authorized. I used that bit on a packaging design once, Authorised.

Oh, dear. What was he saved from?

by Anonymousreply 16October 3, 2025 12:47 AM

R13, who’s that?

by Anonymousreply 17October 3, 2025 1:04 AM

Didn’t know he died that long ago.

by Anonymousreply 18October 3, 2025 1:17 AM

R14, clearly you have a story to tell.

We’re waiting.

by Anonymousreply 19October 3, 2025 1:24 AM

Crime Story was a great show.

by Anonymousreply 20October 3, 2025 1:36 AM

Lot of hot blue collar types on Crime Story. Farina, Bill Smitrovich, Steve Ryan, Anthony Denison......

by Anonymousreply 21October 3, 2025 1:40 AM

I really enjoyed his season on L&O, wonder why it didn't work out. The creatives on the show had created an interesting backstory, Farina was excellent and turning from charming to threatening easily.

What didn't work?

by Anonymousreply 22October 3, 2025 1:43 AM

God, I love an authentic Chicago accent. Drops my panties, so to speak, every time.

by Anonymousreply 23October 3, 2025 1:48 AM

A hottie. Looks like a good fuck.

[quote]It's impossible to be cool with a name like Farina.

Giovanni Battista Farina was about as cool as it gets.

by Anonymousreply 25October 3, 2025 2:01 AM

His breath smelled like a boiled egg left in a dumpster in July.

Why aren't you sitting *on* it, r14?

by Anonymousreply 27October 3, 2025 2:38 AM

I’d fuck him silly.

by Anonymousreply 28October 3, 2025 2:38 AM

Did someone say sofa?

by Anonymousreply 29October 3, 2025 2:45 AM

That would be a typo, you fat cunt R27.

by Anonymousreply 30October 3, 2025 3:03 AM

Survived making "That Old Feeling" with the Divine Miss Midler. Carl Reiner's last film. Co-starring the gorgeous James Denton and the even more gorgeous Danny Nucci. I enjoyed it bigly.

And I liked him VERY much in that role, R1, and was sad when he decided to leave.

In [italic]L&O[/italic] he had the same off the charts chemistry with Michael Imperioli that he'd had with Tony Denison in [italic]Crime Story.[/italic] I didn’t miss Jesse L. Martin at all.

And there was always something mysteriously shady about him, that I was hoping would be revealed in time--the custom suits, shoes, and coats, the expen$$$ive car, on and NYPD detective salary.

by Anonymousreply 32October 3, 2025 3:38 AM

I liked him as Jack Crawford in Manhunter. Closer to the books than Scott Glenn and Harvey Ketel.

by Anonymousreply 33October 3, 2025 4:30 AM

I loved his L&O character and I think he worked fantastically with Imperioli and Martin, but especially the former because he was greener than Ed Green. The elder sage, young pup dynamic was terrific. I also thought Green's sardonic approach to the questionable Fontana worked well.

This 💯. What an opportunity for the series and writers. it could have been if he had continued. Was Dick Wolf opposed to featuring a "nice" yet crooked cop as a central character?

[Quote] As God as my witness

Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 35October 3, 2025 5:35 AM

He had chronic halitosis?

by Anonymousreply 36October 3, 2025 6:07 AM

R22 Farina was actually on 2 seasons of L&O. The reason he left the show is that his contract was up right when NBC was making it sound like they were going to cancel the show (season 16, I think). Farina went ahead and got other work thinking the show was dead. This is also why Annie Parisse (ADA Borgia) was written out at the same time.

It was a bummer because he was great. That being said, the season 17-20 core cast ended up being pretty good, and never should have been cancelled. This continuation series that’s airing presently is so bad as to be unwatchable.

R21 and let's not forget sweet Billy Campbell.

I'm hotter than hell but I'm not and never have been blue collar.
