Yesterday, Hamish Steele, the creator of Dead End: Paranormal Park, informed his followers on BlueSky that he would be taking a social media break due to “extremely nasty weird homophobic and antisemitic emails” he was receiving. “I will just say today is much much worse and I am going to basically be on the down low for the foreseeable,” he wrote. “My apologies.”
In one of the cartoon’s episodes, the character Barney Guttman says he is transgender. A clip of that moment has made the social media rounds in recent days. Musk too latched on to the anti-Netflix trend, writing on X, “This is not ok” and “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”
Steele responded lightheartedly, “It’s all lies and slander! Netflix is NOT promoting at the moment!”
Later that day, Steele posted, “I have mostly been very ok today and found it all quite funny, while really appreciating everyone who has reached out, but the extremely nasty weird homophobic and antisemitic emails have started rolling in and it is getting a little scary so I apologize if I take longer to respond to stuff.”
Still later, he posted the message about the day being “much much worse” and taking a social media break.
