Any “Maude” fans here?
They reshot two episodes. The original unaired episodes were later released as extras on DVD. Does anyone know why they reshot them with a different cast?
Reshot episodes:
- Unaired episode 115 "The Double Standard"
- Unaired episode 316 "Maude's New Friends"

I must have watched a few episodes, but I didn't like the character. Too much.

Some of the episodes have writing that is more brilliant than the writing of Golden Girls. Some episodes are even more timeless and topical, especially in today’s political climate. Although, the series as a whole isn’t exactly comfort TV even though I’m a fan.

Watched it first-run but rarely in recent repeats. It was a favorite in our house but my father hated all the SHOUTING. He preferred M*A*S*H* or a a hockey game.
We had a neighbor who looked like her and wore those scarves and ultra-long vests.

Susan Harris wrote many episodes. It is really, really funny but some episodes, like the Alcoholism 2 parter switched too radically from comedy to drama. I especially liked that you can often see the performers screw up lines but they kept going, like a real life situation. And Bill Macy was one of the most believable matches for Bea Arthur.

Can we use AI to create another season of Maude?

Looking back, I wasn't a big fan of most of the Lear shows, but I certainly had an appreciation of them.

A stand-out episode is Bea Arthur at her shink appointment. Just her, no one else.

A classic exchange that was also used on Golden Girls.
Couple knocks on the door: We're looking for the Harmons and they're not at home.
Maude: Didn't you hear? They're dead?
Man: They're really dead?
Maude: To us they are (slams door).

Marcia Rodd was much more believable as Bea's daughter.

R11, possibly because Rodd always looked so angry and aggressive. She was Maude's daughter but two of them in one show was too much. Barbeau was a softer presence with nice titties.

R8 Didn't she get an Emmy nom for that episode ? If not, she should have. That was a masterclass in acting.

Anyone remember Teri McCann on Carol Burnett?

Episode 316: Maude’s New Friends had to be entirely reshot as one of Maude’s new acquaintances was originally played by Helen Lawson, whose idea of comedy improv consisted of flashing her cooch at at a dismayed Bill Macy and squeezing Conrad Bain by the balls so hard they needed a medic on the set to complete shooting.
Bea Arthur said she’d never seen Norman Lear cry before this episode.
