May she rest in peace and without snark.

Dollface thread.

Loved her. She’ll be missed.

by Anonymousreply 2October 1, 2025 6:16 PM

I’m going to give her a big hug when she gets here. Well, not too big a hug.

by Anonymousreply 3October 1, 2025 6:25 PM

Bump for original thread.

by Anonymousreply 4October 1, 2025 6:26 PM

She was no Dian Fossey.

by Anonymousreply 5October 1, 2025 6:28 PM

Oh god. Two of my favorites are gone—Redford and now Jane—both who added value to the world. We need more people like them.

RIP😢

by Anonymousreply 7October 1, 2025 6:30 PM

I love that she and her husband nicknamed their male child "Grub."

May her memory be a blessing. She had a life well-lived, advocating for primates, humanity, and the planet. Bless her.

by Anonymousreply 11October 1, 2025 7:02 PM

Loved her books about her chimp studies. She was fearless! A couple of those chimps beat the shit out of her but she persevered.

by Anonymousreply 12October 1, 2025 7:52 PM

The world is a poorer place today.

by Anonymousreply 13October 1, 2025 8:03 PM

When I was a kid, she was THE National Geographic cover girl. They featured her in numerous issues int he 60s, I remember.

by Anonymousreply 14October 1, 2025 8:05 PM

Diamonds!

by Anonymousreply 15October 1, 2025 8:37 PM

Another icon gone. :(

Thanks for that Far Side cartoon, R10. You know you are part of the world culture when you get a mention like that!

by Anonymousreply 16October 1, 2025 9:11 PM

We'll always have Nymphia Wind's Snatch Game version.

by Anonymousreply 17October 1, 2025 10:09 PM

You beat me to it r10.

by Anonymousreply 18October 1, 2025 10:11 PM

She loved making those gorilla noises.

by Anonymousreply 19October 1, 2025 10:14 PM

Jane Deadall is GOOD to me!

by Anonymousreply 20October 1, 2025 10:15 PM

She made it to 91! What an incredible life and an inspiring human being.

by Anonymousreply 21October 1, 2025 10:18 PM

Flags should be flying at half mast for her, not Charlie Kirk

by Anonymousreply 22October 1, 2025 10:26 PM

Why? He was a lower primate.

by Anonymousreply 23October 1, 2025 10:31 PM

She was so elegant, but so tough.

by Anonymousreply 24October 1, 2025 10:33 PM

Oh, boo hoo hoo

by Anonymousreply 25October 1, 2025 10:34 PM

Gary Larson got an angry call regarding that carton at R10 when it was published. Somebody from her Foundation called him out. But the truth was the complainer was speaking out of turn. Goodall loved it and even included it in a later book of hers.

by Anonymousreply 26October 1, 2025 10:34 PM

The family of primates mourns our loss. Jane Goodall brought awareness of our familial ties which the others knew, but the humans were slow to grasp. Thanks to Ms. Goodall, by daring to respect our cousins' intelligence we, in turn, learned so much more about ourselves.

Yes, she loved and studied her fellow primates, but it was the canine and their mastery of unconditional love who truly captured and owned her heart. There's no arguing with that.

Rest In Peace, Jane Goodall.

by Anonymousreply 27October 1, 2025 10:34 PM

A shining light amid the darkness.

Godspeed.

by Anonymousreply 28October 1, 2025 10:36 PM

As a lower primate, I salute her!

by Anonymousreply 29October 1, 2025 10:37 PM

Please don't masturbate in public r29.

by Anonymousreply 30October 1, 2025 10:38 PM

This is awful, what happened?

by Anonymousreply 31October 1, 2025 10:40 PM

Heroin overdose, R31

by Anonymousreply 32October 1, 2025 10:45 PM

So young!

by Anonymousreply 33October 1, 2025 11:04 PM

She was a fascinating person. She loved studying animals, science, African politics, classical music, literature, and enjoyed a strong whiskey at the end of the day.

A true renaissance woman.

by Anonymousreply 34October 1, 2025 11:16 PM

[quote] and enjoyed a strong whiskey at the end of the day

Just the one?

by Anonymousreply 35October 1, 2025 11:20 PM

[Quote] This is awful, what happened?

She died fighting an oil-rig fire on the North Sea, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 36October 1, 2025 11:31 PM

I know I'll get flamed but with all due respect the woman was 91 years old. Let's not pretend she was in the middle of some new study on primates and about to release some new revelations. She had a good life. Also at some point will we find a way to blame her death on Trump and the GOP as you know that's coming too. Here in NYC if Mamdani was mayor, she'd be alive today and about to go on some new expedition, funded by the NYC left. You know that's coming too. Muriel will block me. See you all in 48 hours.

by Anonymousreply 37October 1, 2025 11:38 PM

Huh?

I hope that was parody.

by Anonymousreply 38October 1, 2025 11:41 PM

"She loved making those gorilla noises." Nope. Diane Fossey studied gorillas. Jane was all about the chimps.

She was very attractive when young: blonde and lithe and willowy.

Rumour had it that Lois Leakey got busy with both Diane and Jane at various times. Who knows?! What a life those woman led, though.

by Anonymousreply 39October 1, 2025 11:58 PM

Forgot to add this, with pictures of a pretty young Jane.

This is one of the greatest losses to humanity in the last 100 years.

[Quote] Let's not pretend she was in the middle of some new study on primates and about to release some new revelations.

“She was very old, so she was worthless and no one should care she died.”

by Anonymousreply 42October 2, 2025 12:06 AM

Oh no! What happened??

Did one of the monkeys finally get her?!

by Anonymousreply 43October 2, 2025 12:08 AM

[quote] Let's not pretend she was in the middle of some new study on primates and about to release some new revelations.

She was on a speaking tour. She’s pictured in the attached article speaking last week at the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Forum at The Plaza Hotel in New York.

She was a class act who spent her entire life learning. We should celebrate her life!

by Anonymousreply 45October 2, 2025 12:39 AM

I had lunch with her once with some nonprofit work and supporting a fundraiser she was doing. Just as she seemed, no-nonsense, kind, careful, intensely passionate while keeping things in objective context. A pro, a little quirky, complete integrity. We talked about the bushmeat crisis she saw happening, regional differences in chimpanzee culture, environmental change and some African political issues. That was 20 years ago.

She had two staff at another table, nice young women who obviously were fixated. She seemed a bit frail but looked healthy. Great complexion. Saw her at her talk that night. She had 2,500 people doing their ga-ga routine that week. She stayed afterwards for over two hours to talk to every person who wanted to talk with her.

Oh, she was intense about water. If one had water served, you'd better finish it or she'd take it with her. I suspected the acolytes would have carried any water out with buckets on their heads.

Obviously the experience made an impression. I appreciate her achievements for conservation and field study. She defended her approach, although her methodology was idiosyncratic at times. She felt that the human element was so pervasive now that there was no point in keeping a "prime directive" approach to primate studies because isolation was over.

God best not fuck with Penny Patterson!

by Anonymousreply 52October 2, 2025 2:23 AM

A wonderful woman. 😞

by Anonymousreply 53October 2, 2025 2:58 AM

Gorilla Girl. She was braver than me.

by Anonymousreply 54October 2, 2025 3:09 AM

R54 Not Gorilla Girl! She was with chimps

by Anonymousreply 55October 2, 2025 3:38 AM

R7, yes, it's a shame to lose both Redford and Goodall so close together. And I feel bad for them that they had to die while Trump was still in office.

by Anonymousreply 56October 2, 2025 7:04 AM

Loved her
