Rick Wilson: Democrats should let it burn

After more than a decade of Trump, any Democrat who still believes they can get an “honorable commitment” from him is delusional. There is no compromise, no deal, no promise that won’t be betrayed. The very thing you think is your great victory will be gutted, mocked, and held up to humiliate you.

But Democrats still believe they can poll-test their way out of disaster. They cling to the fantasy that the public will reward them for “doing the right thing.” In some just world, perhaps.

But the world you live in now is not just, not fair, not honorable. The same people who accuse you every day of murdering Charlie Kirk do not see you as partners in governance.

They see you as enemies to be destroyed.

Your fear that you’ll take a political hit for a shutdown is misplaced. The public knows Republicans control every lever of power in Washington: the White House, both chambers of Congress, and the courts, particularly the Supreme Court.

Rick Wilson has done more to help the Democratic Party than all the members of the US House and Senate combined.

And just like anybody else who tries to tell the Democrats anything, he's been roundly ignored.

by Anonymousreply 1September 30, 2025 4:48 PM

Guys like Schumer are scared of what Trump may do. I get it. Trump doesn't make idle threats. He is capable of anything. And he has that Trump Whisperer, Stephen Miller guiding hi with "helpful suggestions." But I agree. Do not cave in.

by Anonymousreply 2September 30, 2025 4:50 PM

Steve Schmidt has a similar take: Schumer and Jeffries are hollow men, not up to the moment.

Rick Wilson is one of the reasons America has gone to shit.

What he did to Max Clelland was unforgivable.

by Anonymousreply 4September 30, 2025 5:19 PM

I think it is actually good advice in this case. Democrats have zero spine and have been completely disappointing. They need to grow a set, fight back hard, and take no prisoners.

by Anonymousreply 5September 30, 2025 7:43 PM

Let it burn: Give America what it voted for.

by Anonymousreply 6September 30, 2025 7:45 PM

If you're seeking to defend my honor, at least get my name right.

by Anonymousreply 7September 30, 2025 9:28 PM

Jeffries isn't the problem. He had his caucus in line last time this came up, Chuck fucked it up. I, too, believe that Democrats should just let it all burn, but will Chuck be a roadblock once again?

by Anonymousreply 8September 30, 2025 9:45 PM

What did Rick do to Max?

by Anonymousreply 9September 30, 2025 9:46 PM

Whatever he did to Max in (checks notes) 2002* is more than forgiven for his steadfast opposition to Trump.

[quote] *Apparently, he ran a nasty attack ad using a picture of Osama bin Laden when Cleland voted against establishing the Department of Homeland Security.

by Anonymousreply 10September 30, 2025 10:25 PM

Trump raped lots of women, including young girls. Whatever Max Clelland did pales

by Anonymousreply 11October 1, 2025 2:01 AM

Rick Wilson was a republican campaign operative who brought America to where we are now.

Has he ever apologized for all the shit he did?

I mean - thanks for not doing that anymore - but he's a large contributor to this mess .

by Anonymousreply 12October 1, 2025 2:09 AM

Wise advice.

You know which states received the most subsidies from Biden for Obamacare? Texas and Florida, at $2.2B and $1.4B. By percentage of new enrollees in response to the subsidies? Texas, Louisiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee.

Let it burn indeed.

by Anonymousreply 14October 1, 2025 2:09 AM

Democrats need to let it burn then shout from the rooftops that’s it’s the Republican’s fault. They always try to reason and compromise and it never works. Let Dump be a blowhard and see what he actually does. Let his own party rein him in for once if they give a shit.

by Anonymousreply 15October 1, 2025 2:14 AM

Meet the Great Realignment, R12.

by Anonymousreply 16October 1, 2025 2:16 AM

Honestly, what do the Democrats have to lose?

Looking on from afar, from the UK, all I have seen in my lifetime (at least from Clinton onwards) is that the Democrats have compromised their policies and views again and a gain, while the Republicans only despise them for their weakness and seek to humiliate them. What price have the Republicans had to pay for their contempt for democratic norms?

Maybe it’s time to try something different. “When they go low, we go high” really doesn’t seem to be a winning strategy in a world containing a President Donald Trump.

by Anonymousreply 17October 1, 2025 2:17 AM

Despite this idea that Democrats have abandoned the working class, the truth is they are constantly bending over backwards to help the working class, with no reward or gratitude from those fuckers. Let 'em burn.

by Anonymousreply 18October 1, 2025 2:23 AM

Maybe Chuck Schumer can take a letter to Maria and. Hakeem can take some more money from Israel.

by Anonymousreply 19October 1, 2025 2:26 AM

If you’re in the UK then you have a working press.

The US doesn’t.

The media here spins everything to make Dems look bad no matter how criminal republicans are.

by Anonymousreply 20October 1, 2025 2:40 AM

The Democrats should stick it to him. No more Mr Nice Guy.

by Anonymousreply 21October 1, 2025 3:07 AM

All it would take would be to go on to a morning show in a face full of orange makeup.

by Anonymousreply 22October 1, 2025 3:17 AM

The GOP hasn’t done shit for the working class. The main reason it attracted them this time around was Trump’s white supremacy message.

by Anonymousreply 23October 1, 2025 3:21 AM

Hilarious when I read articles about the working class being shocked that Trump hasn’t made the economy better like he promised

by Anonymousreply 24October 1, 2025 3:21 AM

The Democratic leadership are fucking IDIOTS if they try to make a deal--particularly one centered around healthcare. Democrats should be BEGGING for people to lose their healthcare at this point because until people feel the effects of Republican leadership they'll have no reason to vote against it. The idea voters will reward Democrats later on for saving their healthcare is complete insanity. Half the country doesn't even watch the fucking news and won't even know they have the Dems to thank for it. It's like when Trump killed the immigration bill because he wanted something to run on. Democrats to let the system burn--including healthcare--so that they can make the case that the Republicans fucked it up!

by Anonymousreply 25October 1, 2025 3:25 AM

People have to feel the pain for a long while before they make the connection .

The problem with the Great Recession was that Obama cleaned it up too fast. Americans didn’t have the time to link it with GOP policies

by Anonymousreply 26October 1, 2025 3:30 AM

I agree with Rick Wilson. Show the people the Republican's true colors.

by Anonymousreply 27October 1, 2025 3:33 AM

As Bill Clinton once said, "It's better to be loud and wrong than soft and right."

Americans like to see that you are vigorously fighting for them. Americans are often stupid about politics. They don't follow the issues and rationale so politicians cannot be meek while doing the right thing since they will look like the loser.

by Anonymousreply 28October 1, 2025 4:00 AM

Republicans paid no price for all of their shutdowns. Democrats should learn and do the same. Fight back for a change, no matter how long it takes.

As the kids in the ghetto say “Burn Baby Burn!”

by Anonymousreply 29October 1, 2025 4:14 AM

The government shut down is now happening. However, the Postal Service and Social Security will still be working. So it's not complete.

by Anonymousreply 30October 1, 2025 4:22 AM

Trump will fire everyone who works for Social Security so it might as well be shut down.

by Anonymousreply 31October 1, 2025 9:43 AM

I have an appointment with them this morning. I’ll go and report back.

by Anonymousreply 32October 1, 2025 12:51 PM

There are other exemptions to the shutdown, R30, including air traffic controllers. So for most Americans, these now routine shutdowns are of no moment.

by Anonymousreply 33October 1, 2025 3:11 PM

The last shutdown was in 2019, so they are only routine when Republicans have power. And we’ll see if there is sufficient “moment” if it goes on. Last time, TSA staff couldn’t afford gas and parking to go to work without getting checks, so enough called in sick to result in major flight delays

by Anonymousreply 34October 1, 2025 4:02 PM

The Social Security office was open. I guess they know what buttons not to push.

by Anonymousreply 35October 1, 2025 7:21 PM

Sadly, this shutdown needs to simmer a while before it affects the power brokers. We will have to wait and see....
