The one thing I will say is that he is correct that no lawyer would take this pro bono, that the cost of having a lawyer handle this would be six figures in total, that the correct way to handle this is through a lawyer, and that no one with his professional background would have that money handy.

Whenever someone says something is a scam simply because a person is trying to raise money for legal representation, it tells me that they know absolutely nothing about the cost of legal representation and the necessity of legal representation in certain situations, of which this is definitely one.

That does not mean this guy is legit. I have no opinion on that. But what you have identified does not itself raise red flags for me.

If this were actually true and Mike Johnson resigned in disgrace, who would become Speaker? They had such a hard time getting one when they kicked Kevin who's-it to the curb.
