That Darn Cat! (1965)

I remember seeing this movie during Xmas vacation when I was in the 8th grade. I was a Hayley Mills fan and I thought she was wasted in this. It seemed like bargain basement Disney.

The cat was pretty.

I like how 1950s and early 60s typography on movie posters was all "wacky." Comical misalignment of letters guaranteed laffs galore!

I was six and saw it at a drive-in with The Ugly Dachshund as a double feature. Loved both. Yes I was wearing pajamas and was expected to fall asleep. But I didn't!

The appeal of Dean Jones escapes me. He certainly had no sex appeal.

There’s a new version in the works. It’s set during the gay golden age of San Francisco.

It’s titled- That Darn Homosexual.

I was a kid when this came out and remember thinking that the title and everything else about it sounded lame.

Shouldn't the title be "That Damned Homosexual"

The film was in color. The funniest part is Roddy McDowell playing a lovelorn, straight guy chasing after Hayley's on screen older sister.

It took forever to get started. Scene after scene of the two UNFUNNY bad guys.....by the time we got to Hayley and Dorothy I was bored out of my gourd as we used to say.

That Darn Homosexual! follows the misadventures of a twink who puts on the wrong pair of Sasson jeans after a bathhouse session.

In her memoir, Mills talks about the studio being worried about her visible weight gain in this film. The bubble cut she sports seems to be a compensation for that. Also, if you look closely at some of the shots and think "that's the best it got," it looks like the cat must have been uncooperative.

Sorry, but Disney live action didn't really come into its own until the 70s, with such gems as The World's Greatest Athlete and The Apple Dumpling Gang.

I saw this when it came out. Was a fan of all the Hayley Mills movies my parents took me to but once was enough for this one. Hated her hair in it too.

I love The Cat From Outer Space. Roger Ebert thought it was typical kid fare but it holds up as a silly cute movie now.

Also, The Three Lives of Thomasina is superior to That Darn Cat! Susan Hampshire...[dreamy sigh]

Disney's "Old Yeller" was the 5th highest grossing film of 1957.

Mary Poppins, The Parent Trap, Absent Minded Professor...all big hits in the 1960s.

The Shaggy Dog (1959) was another huge hit for Disney. and it was the start of all those other dog and cat comedies.

I remember one if David Letterman’s books with a Top Ten List of modern movie titles and one was, “That Fucking Cat!”
