I remember seeing this movie during Xmas vacation when I was in the 8th grade. I was a Hayley Mills fan and I thought she was wasted in this. It seemed like bargain basement Disney.

The cat was pretty.

by Anonymousreply 1September 29, 2025 12:32 AM

I like how 1950s and early 60s typography on movie posters was all "wacky." Comical misalignment of letters guaranteed laffs galore!

by Anonymousreply 2September 29, 2025 10:58 AM

I was six and saw it at a drive-in with The Ugly Dachshund as a double feature. Loved both. Yes I was wearing pajamas and was expected to fall asleep. But I didn't!

by Anonymousreply 3September 29, 2025 11:13 AM

and I loved Dorothy Provine

by Anonymousreply 4September 29, 2025 11:24 AM

The appeal of Dean Jones escapes me. He certainly had no sex appeal.

R5, this was a Disney movie and hat made him perfect.

by Anonymousreply 7September 29, 2025 12:12 PM

There’s a new version in the works. It’s set during the gay golden age of San Francisco.

It’s titled- That Darn Homosexual.

by Anonymousreply 8September 29, 2025 12:16 PM

I was a kid when this came out and remember thinking that the title and everything else about it sounded lame.

by Anonymousreply 9September 29, 2025 12:43 PM

Shouldn't the title be "That Damned Homosexual"

by Anonymousreply 10September 29, 2025 12:47 PM

Filmed in black and white in 1965. Looks terrible.

by Anonymousreply 11September 29, 2025 12:53 PM

I remember laughing my 8-year-old butt off at “That Darn Cat.” Thanks for bringing back a very pleasant memory, OP.

by Anonymousreply 12September 29, 2025 12:55 PM

R10, recycling R8’s joke. Poorly.

by Anonymousreply 13September 29, 2025 12:56 PM

That Darn Cunt! (2026)

by Anonymousreply 14September 29, 2025 2:01 PM

I avoid movies about pussy.

by Anonymousreply 15September 29, 2025 2:40 PM

R11 this trailer shows the film is in color.

by Anonymousreply 16September 29, 2025 2:49 PM

The film was in color. The funniest part is Roddy McDowell playing a lovelorn, straight guy chasing after Hayley's on screen older sister.

by Anonymousreply 17September 29, 2025 2:53 PM

r16 So does the word TECHNICOLOR prominently shown on the poster.

by Anonymousreply 18September 29, 2025 2:54 PM

It took forever to get started. Scene after scene of the two UNFUNNY bad guys.....by the time we got to Hayley and Dorothy I was bored out of my gourd as we used to say.

by Anonymousreply 19September 29, 2025 2:57 PM

That Darn Homosexual! follows the misadventures of a twink who puts on the wrong pair of Sasson jeans after a bathhouse session.

by Anonymousreply 20September 29, 2025 3:01 PM

[quote]That Darn Homosexual!

Hated it!

by Anonymousreply 21September 29, 2025 3:02 PM

Ok, it was in color, thanks.

And that was Dl fave Dr Julia Hoffman, Grayson Hall.

by Anonymousreply 22September 29, 2025 5:24 PM

What's New, Pussycat?

Oh wait that's a different movie.

by Anonymousreply 23September 29, 2025 10:18 PM

But it reminded me of this.....funny

I thought I read once that Dean Jones (a.k.a. the Bad Guy from Beethoven) testified on behalf of a gay marriage ban.

by Anonymousreply 26September 29, 2025 10:36 PM

Dean was a devout Christian. You know what that means.

by Anonymousreply 27September 29, 2025 10:37 PM

Even "That Darn Cat" was funnier than these "That Darn Homosexual" jokes.

In her memoir, Mills talks about the studio being worried about her visible weight gain in this film. The bubble cut she sports seems to be a compensation for that. Also, if you look closely at some of the shots and think "that's the best it got," it looks like the cat must have been uncooperative.

How's the Christina Ricci remake?

by Anonymousreply 30September 29, 2025 11:22 PM

Is he kicking her in the cunt on the movie poster?

by Anonymousreply 31September 29, 2025 11:27 PM

r31, that was the sequel. "That Darn Cunt."

by Anonymousreply 32September 29, 2025 11:45 PM

It's inferior to "Million Dollar Duck."

by Anonymousreply 33September 29, 2025 11:53 PM

[quote]Many Duncan's glass eye

Actually, Sandy Duncan doesn't have even one glass eye, let alone many. She's blind in one eye because of tumor surgery.

by Anonymousreply 34September 29, 2025 11:57 PM

[quote]Dean was a devout Christian. You know what that means.

No anal on Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 35September 29, 2025 11:58 PM

That poster knows that, r34. They think saying she has a glass eye is the height of hilarity.

by Anonymousreply 36September 30, 2025 12:04 AM

Sorry, but Disney live action didn't really come into its own until the 70s, with such gems as The World's Greatest Athlete and The Apple Dumpling Gang.

by Anonymousreply 37September 30, 2025 12:06 AM

R34. Ever heard of HIPAA?!

by Anonymousreply 38September 30, 2025 12:39 AM

I saw this when it came out. Was a fan of all the Hayley Mills movies my parents took me to but once was enough for this one. Hated her hair in it too.

Hayley’s weight?! I thought Dean Jones looked middle aged in it!

by Anonymousreply 39September 30, 2025 12:45 AM

Looks decidedly lowbrow.

by Anonymousreply 40September 30, 2025 4:07 AM

The poster looks like Dorothy is farting. Dean reacts as if she is.

by Anonymousreply 41September 30, 2025 4:09 AM

It's Disney, r40. It's decidedly lowbrow by definition.

by Anonymousreply 42September 30, 2025 7:41 AM

Scene after scene of the two UNFUNNY bad guys

R19 one is Frank Gorshin, overacting wildly.

by Anonymousreply 43October 3, 2025 2:16 PM

^^^THE RIDDLER" is always twisted-funny!

by Anonymousreply 48October 3, 2025 2:49 PM

Disney kept doing these kinds of films for years.

Remember "The Cat from Outer Space"?

by Anonymousreply 49October 3, 2025 2:52 PM

I love The Cat From Outer Space. Roger Ebert thought it was typical kid fare but it holds up as a silly cute movie now.

by Anonymousreply 50October 3, 2025 3:08 PM

Also, The Three Lives of Thomasina is superior to That Darn Cat! Susan Hampshire...[dreamy sigh]

by Anonymousreply 51October 3, 2025 3:14 PM

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.

by Anonymousreply 52October 3, 2025 5:38 PM

Loved it! "It looks as if someone was trying to spell "HELP"...but was interrupted!"

by Anonymousreply 53October 3, 2025 5:51 PM

I know someone who just named their newborn Thomasina.

[quote]I thought I read once that Dean Jones (a.k.a. the Bad Guy from Beethoven) testified on behalf of a gay marriage ban.

So my bad taste in men goes all the way back to childhood. I wouldn’t call it a crush but he definitely made me feel something when I was little

by Anonymousreply 55October 3, 2025 7:54 PM

I preferred the kinky gay porn version - “That Darn Scat!”

by Anonymousreply 56October 3, 2025 8:08 PM

What about "Summer Magic" and Burl Ives singing "The Ugly Bug Ball"?

by Anonymousreply 57October 4, 2025 12:40 AM

[quote]Sorry, but Disney live action didn't really come into its own until the 70s

Not true.

Disney's "Old Yeller" was the 5th highest grossing film of 1957.

Mary Poppins, The Parent Trap, Absent Minded Professor...all big hits in the 1960s.

The Shaggy Dog (1959) was another huge hit for Disney. and it was the start of all those other dog and cat comedies.

by Anonymousreply 58October 4, 2025 1:10 AM

I remember one if David Letterman’s books with a Top Ten List of modern movie titles and one was, “That Fucking Cat!”

by Anonymousreply 59October 4, 2025 1:26 AM

Get your hands off me, meatball! Get 'em off!

by Anonymousreply 60October 4, 2025 11:54 AM

I have to laugh when Neville Brand calls Grayson Hall "Miss America".

by Anonymousreply 61October 4, 2025 11:56 AM

Even in the more-innocent 1960s, it was pretty obvious that cat was code for pussy.

by Anonymousreply 62October 4, 2025 12:03 PM

Dan says of Margaret Miller: She's been a pretty good girl. No hysteriaville, no gas, no struggling.
