'Big Brother' cancels promised twists and shakeups led to ‘worst season yet’

This deserves a separate thread, not to be lost in the main BB thread. Explains a lot of why this season was so boring and haphazard most of the time.

BIG Brother has canceled its promised twists and show shakeups after a series of tech blunders led to the ‘worst season yet,’ The U.S. Sun can reveal.

Ahead of season 27 premiering back in July, CBS teased fans with a number of new twists they could expect with the show’s new house, which was a Hotel Mystere theme.

Among some of the fun shakeups the network promised was the set being “a suspense-filled hotel, complete with secrets, hidden passageways, and a mysterious vibe that sets the stage for a summer of intrigue.”

Fans pointed out that, despite stars like Rachel Reilly attempting to find hidden passageways, no secret spots appeared to be within the house.

The reception area was another “disappointing flop,” according to fans, after production also oversold what would happen in that room.

“Houseguests are welcomed by a wall of 75 key boxes, some filled with skeleton keys and other clues that might reveal themselves later in the game,” they said ahead of the season.

However, the reception room was not mentioned at all during the season and there were never any clues found in that area for the Houseguests.

According to a show insider, the confusion was caused by a “classic case of production overpromising."

“They had big plans but all of their biggest swings ended up just totally flopping. The interactive set had technical issues so that played a part in why things were not featured as promised.

“But also, as the game played out, certain twists and advantages wouldn't have fit into the season so it was a plot-driven decision too,” a source claimed.

The last good season was Season 6. Maybe 7, but Boogie’s win ruined it.

On the premiere night, the cameras spanned the whole house of 'mystery' - set up like a hotel this season, not necessarily a house. Chen promised all these twists and turns - there was the wall of 72 keys and the suspense was supposed to be what do the keys unlock this season ? AS someone posted on their FB page - you can see that the set designer spent a lot of attention to detail and design this season - all a waste in the end.

Apparently, nothing. No twists no shake-ups. They couldn't even get evictions correct on the schedule. You can tell some of the HoHs and Veto comps were 'thrown together'. Now we know why.

Also, the masked “Mastermind “ with the hidden accomplice amounted to nothing more than having the guy in the mask take over for Julie as the MC on some nights.

R3 True. It didn't help that his 'accomplice' was voted out in week 2, due to the fact that she told everyone if she didn't go home by the end of the week, she was about to lose her job. I mean WTF?

And God forbid they offer the accomplice role to someone else when Any left. This isn't rocket science. I suppose they would be accused of manipulating then but hell they get accused of manipulating anyway.

I wonder how the roles of the crew work out on this show, do most of them get laid off after the season, get roles on other shows, wonder how that works.

I asked AI What happens to the behind the scene crew of Big Brother after the season is over?

Most of the behind-the-scenes crew for Big Brother US are freelance or seasonal workers who move on to other television or film productions once the season wraps. Only a small, core team of executive producers and other top management remain with the show year-round.

What happens to the crew:

Freelance work: Crew members in roles like camera operation, editing, and sound often move to other productions during the Big Brother off-season. A single production company, Fly on the Wall Entertainment, has produced the show for years, but this doesn't mean the entire crew is on a permanent, full-time payroll.

The off-season: Reality TV production cycles are common, and the Big Brother crew is essentially laid off at the end of each season. The core staff may have other duties for the network (CBS) or for the production company during this period.

Story editors and post-production: After the season finale, the post-production teams, which turn 24 hours of raw footage into daily episodes, finish up their work.

Production company and network management: Executive producers like Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan, who have been with the show for years, maintain year-round oversight. Their production company, Fly on the Wall Entertainment, is responsible for managing the show, and its key employees are likely on full-time staff.

Other reality shows: Many of the same production professionals work across multiple reality shows. According to a producer cited on Reddit, former Big Brother crew members can also be found working on other major reality shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race.

I think to get BB back to what it was, you need to hire a bunch of good-looking, in shape, dumb, white 20-somethings, mix in a couple of older people, a gay guy, and a couple of black people, and someone fat, then just let them be dumb all season. The good-looking white 20-somethings will think they're running the game, then slowly turn on each other, and the fans will have people to hate. What makes these shows work is casting, alcohol, a good villain, a sassy diary room narrator, and production manipulation.

These competitions they have are boring, I usually don't even pay attention when they are happening, all that matters is the outcome. The usual suspects fail or drop out first, you can just about predict the order for the first three to lose any competition. First person to lose a competition should be an automatic nomination for the block plus a have not.
