Does anyone remember Olivia Newton-John saying she was bi-sexual during early 80s TV interview?
It was on Merv Griffin or maybe the Mike Douglas show. I was watching with my family and she said she was bi-sexual (maybe she even said lesbian). The camera cut off immediately and went to commercial. I was 12 years old and had no idea what it meant but figured it out quickly.
Did anyone else see this???

It was allegedly Johnny Carson. The question was if she had a boyfriend and ONJ allegedly said she has girlfriends.

Perhaps she just meant the term the way a lot of women referred to female friends back then, not to express sexual attraction.

I know for a FACT it was on Carson. She was in the interview chair and Johnny noticed a gorgeous ring on her ring finger and when he asked her about it she said, my girlfriend gave me this ring.
I still have that episode on a videocassette tape. Sadly however, I recorded it on my Betamax machine.

My mom swears she said this back in the 1980s or 1990s. When I started listening to Olivia Newton-John myself, I just always accepted she was bisexual based on what I was told.
However, I never thought the Karen Carpenter and ONJ rumors were valid just like I never believed the Karen and Richard incest rumors.

Again, a lot of women often referred to their female friends back then as "girlfriends." I'm dead serious.
If you watch interviews with people back in the 70s and 80s, women (straight or otherwise) would say "I am going over to a girlfriend's house" or something like that. It wasn't meant to express that it was a relationship in a romantic sense.
However, it wouldn't surprise me at all if she was bisexual.

Thanks for letting me know it was on Carson!
Uhhh yeah R6 it did happen and I remember it 40 years later. I wouldn’t waste my time making it up.

Maybe others too remember this — I recall the immediate cut to commercial, without Johnny saying, We’ll be right back.

Yes. The basket was only about knee height and I am afraid of heights so it was terrifying.

Wouldn't be surprised. She had a butch look during the Physical era and that awful mullet. Isn't Matt Lattanzi at least bi?

Beta max sounds like a kind of BDSM guy

I know for a fact that she demonstrated scissoring with Dinah Shore on her show!

I distinctly remember seeing it OP! I was watching. She said “I’m a big giant lesbian!” and then tore her blouse off.
The next guest was Robert Redford. He said, “I’m sexually attracted to r15 in that one thread on DL.

I think she was 100% lesbian. Never linked to anyone in the 70s. Then that whole Lavender Closet scene with Travolta, Randall Kleiser, Lily Tomlin, Allan Carr, her bff Karen (and probably Barry Gibb)... Lattanzi was a sperm donor and beard for her; I guess she picked him for looks, though their only offspring turned out rather plain (leading her to get extensive, unfortunate plastic surgery).

R5, women still call their straight female friends girlfriends, but they don't give them rings. R12 is onto something. Look into the costume designer she had at that time...

Well in Let’s Get Physical, Ms Newton says, “Let me hear your body talk, body talk,” which everyone knows refers to queefing

R2 is correct. Women refer to their friends as “girlfriends” but no straight man would ever refer to a pal as a “boyfriend.”
Olivia loved cock but unfortunately had very bad luck with men.

Where do people get this idea that Karen Carpenter was a lesbian, much less in some ravenous, heated relationship with Olivia?
KC always struck me as asexual. She didn't want to eat food, you think she was eating pussy?

Poor Olivia. Didn’t her Asian husband fake his death to get away from her? That’s some serious soap opera shit.

r20 Karen was straight. She should have married the first man she was with and not the second because the husband was a cruel gold digger.

I agree with R16.
Olivia had that sort of “hard” or “intense” look in the eyes that a lot of avowed lesbians have.

Karen and Richard were both queer. When their stars started fading in the late-70s they both got hitched quickly to quell rumors. With mixed results.

Apparently, the emotional and haunting “I Honestly Love You” was recorded while Olivia was taking golf lessons from Anne Murray.
