Sinclair to Resume Airing Jimmy Kimmel Live
The local TV station boycott of ABC‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live! appears to be ending.
Sinclair said that it would end its preemption of the late night show Friday night after “thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders representing a wide range of perspectives.”
“In our ongoing and constructive discussions with ABC, Sinclair proposed measures to strengthen accountability, viewer feedback, and community dialogue, including a network-wide independent ombudsman,” Sinclair said in a statement. “These proposals were suggested as collaborative efforts between the ABC affiliates and the ABC network. While ABC and Disney have not yet adopted these measures, and Sinclair respects their right to make those decisions under our network affiliate agreements, we believe such measures could strengthen trust and accountability.”

They caved because they public told them in no uncertain terms they were wrong. Bravo.

The problem with these schmucks is they think the American people will just stand by and let them impose their political beliefs on everyone else.
We won’t.

I sure hope that means the tide is beginning to turn.
This last thing -- labeling "the Left" as terrorists -- has me pretty freaked out. Maybe some MAGAts will start to pay attention. For a change.

Well done to everyone here who made their voices heard. Also of interest, the timing of Sinclair's reinstatement means it will have to air Kimmel's return episode after all. From Variety:
[quote]Sinclair said in a statement Friday that it will end its preemption of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and the show will return Friday evening on Sinclair’s ABC affiliates. The Sept. 26 airing of the show is a rerun of Tuesday’s show, featuring Kimmel’s return after ABC temporarily suspended him.

I don't remember the exact quote, but I read that ABC/Disney threatened Nextar and Sinclair and were told that if they didn't resume broadcasting Kimmel, weren't getting ESPN and other sports programming.

So, it was all for nothing....the FCC may rethink decisions in the future.

Don’t be an idiot. Trump and the FCC threatened them, but the economic power of the viewers is a bigger threat. It’s not that the government wasn’t involved.

Sinclair is controlled by MAGA true believers so their instincts aligned with what Trump was trying to get them to do. They were just looking for an excuse to take a liberal voice off the air and the fake outrage over his Kirk comments gave them an excuse. In addition, they need an FCC waiver to allow them to take over even more stations which the law currently prohibits, so they thought they’d hit the jackpot—make Trump happy and silence the liberal on their stations. Ooops.

I suspect they also caved because their sales department informed them that no one is interested in advertising on a 2021 Celebrity Family Feud at midnight.

It's encouraging to see that we, the common people, still have some influence on political events by economic protests and boycotting.

There were boycotts being organized of any company that advertised on the substitute programming so Sinclair could not sell ads.

The local stations probably were complaining about the local ad revenue they stood to lose as well, since those advertisers weren't about to pay for ads no one would see.

Well that makes sense. It’s not like they only own stations in Bumfuckistan. Most of their market does not need or want Sinclair to pre-censor the content they choose to watch or not watch.

It’s surprising that conservatives didn’t organize a boycott of advertisers on Kimmel’s show now that its returned. I wonder why they didn’t do that.

Sinclair will likely look to dropping network affiliation in the future, so it can produce its own news and game shows.
Gray, the biggest TV news conglomerate, already tried to distance itself from networks and failed hard. Its CEO is a little MAGA troll as well.

Is it any wonder a transactional asshole like Trump is their spiritual leader?

What shocked me about this saga were the Disney adults. People I always thought were losers for being obsessed with Disney. Well, jokes on me, so many Disney adults, from here and abroad, openly cancelled their submission to Disney+ and even trips to the park. They addressed it head on as a little (need) community.
I have mass respect for them and need to work on my judgement. Won’t see me making fun of them anymore.

Maybe because Kimmel didn’t actually do anything wrong?
Also, a good chunk of the right split with Trump over this on First Amendment grounds.
The audience angry over censorship is much bigger than the audience offended by his relatively anodyne remarks.

The longer Kimmel stayed suspended and off the air, the more time canceled subscribers had to explore alternatives and realize they didn’t really need Hulu or Disney+. Disney had to resolve the issue quickly to stop the subscriber bleed and win people back before they moved on for good.

I once worked for Sinclair. They are evil SOBs. After they refused to renew my contract at one of their affiliates, they tried hard to deny me unemployment compensation. I was scheduled to participate in a conference call with Sinclair and a local judge. At the appointed time, the judge said he hadn't heard from the company's attorneys. He told me he'd give them ten more minutes. After ten minutes, the judge said, "Okay, they're done. Go and have a nice life."
My agent at the time told me Sinclair has an entire slate of attorneys who do nothing but try to deny fired employees unemployment. Thing is, he said, they've lost every case.

It’s interesting that Nexstar is revealed to be right wing. . I thought our local news broadcast was the most unbiased reporting and informing about everything local. I never saw them with any sort of slant or agenda.
I just thought they were a Texas company.
Sadly, there are two fucking Sinclair operated channels here plus that NBC affiliate from Nextstar. I guess that means that the ABC affiliate is the only agenda-free local news channel.
Damn, this fucking sucks.
