Louis Hayward

Movie star and former protégé of Noel Coward. WWII Bronze Star Medal as photographer documentarian.

I watched 1939 The Saint in New York. Hayward is quite sexy and tough talking, without quite being classically handsome.

Was he a life long bisexual or was it just the early years, hustling to make good?

Oh, OP, how embarrassing - we must always include a reference link of some sort in posts such as this. Let's do better.

by Anonymousreply 1September 26, 2025 1:47 PM

Perhaps OP does not know how. Send him the "how-to" show us Hayward semi-clothed.

Louis smoked 2 packs a day and kept his clothes on.

Never heard of him DL, please tell me more!

I'm sure the OP decided we didn't need a photo of Louis Hayward because he knew everyone has his image emblazoned in their mind.

I've always liked him.

He enlisted in the Marines and commanded the Photographic unit at the battle of Tarawa. The resulted film showed the Marines casualties and when the powers that be saw it, they did not want it released the the public because of the carnage. President Roosevelt disagreed and insisted the film be released. He wanted the American civilian population to see what the battle looked like.

Tarawa was a battle with heavy, heavy casualties.

Eddie Albert was also at Tarawa as he was in the Coast Guard. I've read some of Albert's comments about the battle.

Terrible.

Is Louis Hayward the narrator?

by Anonymousreply 9September 27, 2025 8:27 PM

R9 - No. Imdb claims the narrater was William Lundigan.

by Anonymousreply 10September 27, 2025 11:56 PM

He was emotionally affected by the war and drank a lot afterward

by Anonymousreply 11September 28, 2025 12:00 AM

When drunk he would don a red wig and ask to be called Susie.

by Anonymousreply 14September 28, 2025 4:18 AM

Would he recite Helen Lawson lines, too?
