Pete Hegseth has summoned the military's top officers to a "SECRET MEETING" next week

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned the military's top officers — hundreds of generals and admirals — to a base in northern Virginia for a sudden meeting next week, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The directive did not offer a reason for the gathering next Tuesday of senior commanders of the one-star rank or higher and their top advisers at the Marine Corps base in Quantico. The people, who described the move as unusual, were not authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive plans and spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity.

The Pentagon's top spokesman, Sean Parnell, confirmed that Hegseth "will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week.”

Across the military, there are 800 generals and admirals of all ranks. Many command thousands of service members and are stationed across the world in more than a dozen countries and time zones.

President Donald Trump didn’t seem to know about the meeting when he was asked about it by reporters during an Oval Office appearance later Thursday.

“I’ll be there if they want me, but why is that such a big deal?” Trump said.

Vice President JD Vance argued that the media had turned it into a “big story” and that it was “not particularly unusual that generals who report to” Hegseth are coming to speak with him.

The meeting, first reported by The Washington Post, comes on the heels of several unusual and unexplained actions that Hegseth has taken involving military leaders.

In May, Hegseth ordered that the military cut 20% of its four-star general officers, directed an additional 10% cut from all general and flag officers across the force, and told the National Guard to shed 20% of its top positions.

In February, Hegseth fired Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the Navy's top officer, and Gen. James Slife, the Air Force's second highest officer, without explanation. He also relieved the military's top lawyers.

Since then, Hegseth has fired other military leaders without saying why. Most recently it was a general who led a military intelligence agency whose initial assessment of U.S. damage to Iranian nuclear sites in American strikes angered Trump.

I just wonder which country they're going to attack next?

C'mon, Jaydine. How stupid do you think we are?

by Anonymousreply 6September 26, 2025 2:13 AM

This shit is scary. Admittedly, with this crew it could also be something pointless and stupid, but it really sounds like a purge is coming.

by Anonymousreply 7September 26, 2025 2:15 AM

I posted this on the Treason thread, may as well here.

So you take all of the top brass from bases all over the world, move them all to one location, and announce it to the world. This doesn't sound prudent. It sounds Iike an idea he came up with while intoxicated. The dumbest shit can sound like a good idea when you're drunk.

by Anonymousreply 8September 26, 2025 2:15 AM

Hegseth planning a military coup.

Well., people wanted Trump be deposed.

by Anonymousreply 9September 26, 2025 2:15 AM

Probably to introduce the next level of North Korea style obedience to Dear Leader. Disloyalty purges and such.

by Anonymousreply 10September 26, 2025 2:16 AM

Whatever it's about can be done digitally, there's no reason to cause a major disruption.

by Anonymousreply 11September 26, 2025 2:17 AM

Hegseth is planning a massive drunken orgy because he was instructed by Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.

by Anonymousreply 12September 26, 2025 2:17 AM

He wants to pound his chest and show them who's boss. What an asshole.

[quote] So you take all of the top brass from bases all over the world, move them all to one location, and announce it to the world. This doesn't sound prudent.

That's why this is so unusual.

As someone said, it can be (and should be) done through video conferencing or some other digital means.

But since Kegseth leaked details of their previous attack in the Middle East - via TEXT MESSAGE to a news reporter - they probably don't trust him anymore with a major military operation.

So all the leaders have to come to him, from now on.

Which tells me that this is probably a "secret" military operation that is about to be launched.

They're making sure that none of it gets leaked to the press, or anyone else.

[quote] It sounds Iike an idea he came up with while intoxicated.

Again, this is most definitely Trump's plan, and not Kegseth's.

by Anonymousreply 33September 26, 2025 4:37 AM

Can't sleep and it's all due to this news. This is really, really bad.

The BEST case scenario is that it's something dumb and he's just completely unaware that this gives any country or group that would ever consider attacking the US the absolutely insane and unheard of opportunity to take out all the top military leadership in one strike.

Worst is that some of these men are never heard from again and we're in the purge stage of things now. And there's a lot of variations on that option that are technically less worse (e.g. firing rather than execution), but that basically amount to the same thing for the rest of us.

There is no good reason to do this. None.

by Anonymousreply 34September 26, 2025 8:20 AM

Worst case scenario is that PH demands that they state their loyalty to Trump, rather than the Constitution. Bright side: All these top leaders have been preparing for this since Trump's first term, or at least have been mindful of its possible occurrence. Part of elite service training has historically taught about how this is avoided, the warning signs, and how the military must react to demands of personal allegiance to a person as opposed to the Constitution.

I can't think they have much respect for him.

Similar, R48. Don't think I've ever felt so misanthropic.

Let's hope R44 has the best guess. I fear there is a chance Hegseth will inform them all that in the wake of the attack on the ICE facility the other day, the US military will now be used domestically to protect and enforce the work of ICE.

Yes, Hegseth does have the title, Washington position, but the real high-ranking service people may eat him up. Hegseth is an author and former television personality. Rick Wilson thinks Trump’s sudden switching sides on Russia-Ukraine is due to overwhelming evidence that Russia is about to collapse. Ukraine has developed a sophisticated domestic arms industry with drone warfare being incredibly effective. They are in the process of destroying Russia’s energy infrastructure, cutting off its sole source of revenue and causing domestic unrest.

They may be preparing for the chaos that will result.

This is totally false and it's obnoxious to keep repeating it. The vast majority of Americans knew nothing of Project 2025 (since the media didn't report on it) and Trump won the election because a lot of Americans were burned by inflation under Biden and felt more economically secure during Trump's first term. The majority disapproval numbers for every single Trump policy (including immigration) are a clear indication that this is NOT what people wanted. Acting cynical about your fellow Americans is lame.

by Anonymousreply 76September 26, 2025 6:20 PM

How completely naive can you be, R73?

In November of 2024, Donald Trump was a convicted felon.

On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump led an armed insurrection in Washington DC against the US government, simply because he didn't like the results of the November 2020 election.

Donald Trump was found liable for sexually harassing E. Jean Carroll. This was known to American voters in November, 2024.

The rumors around Donald Trump and Epstein have been around for years. There is a very good chance that the rumors of Trump raping underaged girls have some basis in credibility. He is already a violent sexual predator.

And yet despite all of this bullshit, 80 million Americans ONCE AGAIN voted for this pathetic piece of shit and this pitiful example of a human being, for POTUS, knowing full well what a dirtball scumbag he is.

And why did 80 million Americans vote for a dirtball scumbag? Look no further than Lyndon Johnson's quote:

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

The incumbent party always loses after a period of inflation.

To take his narrow victory as a vote for dictatorship is a major miscalculation. Most voters are not serious people.

I didn't ask about Admirals. Do they even know how many people to expect? I think they're supposed to come with their close advisers, too. Quantico probably has the facilities to accommodate them and their equipment, but I can't see this administration being able to coordinate something so complex

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s surprise gathering of hundreds of generals and admirals in Virginia next week is being called so he can describe the administration’s reinvention of the Department of Defense as the “Department of War” and outline new standards for military personnel, according to half a dozen people familiar with the planning.

“It’s meant to be a show of force of what the new military now looks like under the president,” a White House official told CNN.

The meeting is expected to resemble “a pep rally” where Hegseth will underscore the importance of the “warrior ethos” and outline a new vision for the US military, said three of the sources. He is expected to discuss new readiness, fitness and grooming standards the officers are expected to adhere to and enforce.

R111 there's a rumor or, hopefully more than a rumor, that Hegseth might leave the Trump administration to run for office in 2026. Senate I think.

by Anonymousreply 116September 27, 2025 12:25 AM

Possibly governor of Tennessee. Long shot.

by Anonymousreply 117September 27, 2025 12:28 AM

He has ties to Tennessee?

The Beast article says the original idea was Hegseth’s and it sounds like Trump didn't know about. I think he's on thin ice with Trump. He's goofed (mild word) too many times. Planning to show Musk intelligence about the Chinese without the White House's knowledge which pissed Trump off, divulging classified information that he had cut from secure servers and pasted into a signsl Signal chat, putting on a sub par parade for Trump’s birthday come to mind.

If something goes wrong with this cockamamie scheme, and there's a lot of potential for disaster, it might be the final straw.

by Anonymousreply 118September 27, 2025 12:41 AM

[quote]The meeting is expected to resemble “a pep rally” where Hegseth will underscore the importance of the “warrior ethos” and outline a new vision for the US military, said three of the sources. He is expected to discuss new readiness, fitness and grooming standards the officers are expected to adhere to and enforce.

[quote]“It’s about getting the horses into the stable and whipping them into shape,” said a defense official familiar with the planning. “And the guys with the stars on their shoulders make for a better audience from an optics standpoint. This is a showcase for Hegseth to tell them: get on board, or potentially have your career shortened.”

[quote]Hegseth’s team is planning on recording his speech and releasing it publicly later, three of the sources said, and the White House is planning to amplify it, the White House official said.

Translation: Trump was pissed at the embarrassing birthday parade he threw for himself and is warning the generals that the next parade he throws will have all the crispness and disciplined devotion to him that troops display in China and Russia. He is using the " warrior ethos" shield as a cover for bringing them all together , at a cost of millions, to warn them that what was presented was a personal insult to him and will not be tolerated or they will lose their jobs. It's pretty simple. The speech will be released so that the " USA! USA!" cretin assholes who were starting to doubt him will once again be reeled back and in their eyes, " God Bless the USA" will forever mean " God Bless Donald Trump."

Total shit show. Out with this stupid, petty, fucked up criminal cabal of so-called "government."

Americans "elected" a gang of abusers, grifters, liars, and cheats. Republicans are gross delusional fools trashing and debasing democracy, where each of us has a voice and a vote. They want to take that away, take our votes, speak for us, control, us, and drag us through the gutter with them. They are hateful, stupid, and vile. Some may look normal, but when you vote to abuse and oppress, you are evil.

We threw out the kings once, it's time again to take out the trash.

Hegseth is the man who ordered the shooting of boats with people "and drugs" leaving Venezuela. Does he want it to grow bigger?

I was searching new entries on "X" and found Brian Allen@allenanalysis on Sept 26. CONFIRMED: The U.S. military is preparing options for airstrikes inside Venezuela, targeting drug sites.

He continues to describe it, but his followers give us a gold mine of why the drug sites are only an excuse. They come up with lots of reasons why this could happen, including the ramifications once Trump has declared war.

Just thought you might be interested in details.

Many years ago when I was in college I studied the history of Iraq as part of a geo-political class.

Short take: Iraq was an isolated place with a lot of oil. Western countries exploited it, sucking up the oil on the cheap while enriching themselves. Seeing the deal, Iraqis nationalized their oil, claiming ownership and collection of cash for themselves.

Westerners influence on a totally alien culture, interfered and wars ensued, resulting in a decades long and continuing mess.

rump & criminal pals have no knowledge of history, consequences, or ramifications and if they think the can start a military assault on Venezuela, claiming drugs as the cause (think WMDs) but with oil in mind, will further hasten the US downfall. I know nothing about this, of course, don't know anyone involved. I just heard people talking about it. No one I know, just everyone's saying it.

by Anonymousreply 173September 28, 2025 6:50 PM

R143 Butler was staged by Mossad. They wanted Trump in the White House again. Israel also is responsible for keeping Biden in the race for so long through top donors like Haim Saban. They helped him in exchange for a promise to take in Gaza’s refugees.

Charlie Kirk had began to piece this together and had already revealed that Israelis were on Trump’s security detail in a clip from Bill Maher’s podcast.

In August, Israeli wanted Charlie Kirk to come to Israel and apparently they were offering him an incredible amount of money. He refused. Most likely they were going to bribe conservative influencers to support a resettlement plan.

Trump probably tried to back out of the promise he made to Israel to accept Gaza’s refugees because they want to seize and annex the territory. That was why they killed Kirk. If they had killed Kirk because they simply hated him, they wouldn’t have been so conspicuous. Instead, Netanyahu immediately Egan posting condolences and tributes on social media. They killed Kirk as a threat to Trump - do not betray us.

The choice of Miami’s Freedom Tower for Trump’s library gives it away. The Freedom Tower is in a really shitty part of downtown Miami. It’s the kind of place Trump uses when he says “our cities are war zones!” I never went in that area when I lived in Miami. Gentrification is appearing, but it’s still an incredibly undesirable place.

But

The Freedom Tower was where 400,000 Cuban refugees entered the United States. He chose it for the historical connection. Trump would probably prefer to build his library at Mar-a-Lago and make the complex a shrine to him after his death. He would never choose this location on purpose.

It was chosen for him.

This will make tomorrow's meeting a tad uncomfortable:

"Military leaders have raised serious concerns with the Trump administration’s forthcoming defense strategy, exposing a divide between the Pentagon’s political and uniformed leadership, according to eight current and former officials.

The debate over the National Defense Strategy — the Pentagon’s primary guide for how it prioritizes resources and positions U.S. forces around the world — is the latest challenge for top military officials navigating the Trump administration’s unorthodox approach to the armed forces. People familiar with the editing process described a growing sense of frustration with a plan they considered myopic and potentially irrelevant, given the president’s highly personal and sometimes contradictory approach to foreign policy."

[quote] Hegseth's mystery meeting in Quantico could cost millions, require unprecedented security

They're coming to take a loyalty oath. To hear a speech about "warrior ethos." To take a physical fitness test.

These are among the array of theories outsiders have floated in their attempts to explain a mysterious mass gathering Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth hastily ordered last week, summoning hundreds of top military commanders to Quantico, Virginia, on Sept. 30.

The Pentagon isn't dropping hints about why it ordered its highest-level officers from around the world to report to the base for an 8 a.m. meeting, which will likely cost taxpayers millions of dollars and create security challenges at home and abroad.

Preparations for the gathering have ratcheted up since President Donald Trump revealed that he would make an appearance at what he called a "very nice meeting."

"It’s really just a very nice meeting talking about how well we’re doing militarily, talking about being in great shape, talking about a lot of good, positive things," Trump told NBC on Sept. 28. "It’s just a good message."

Commanders had about a week's notice they were expected at Quantico, according to news reports and a defense official who was not authorized to speak publicly. Normally, a meeting of this importance would be scheduled months in advance.

The Washington Post and New York Times reported Hegseth would deliver a speech about the "warrior ethos" and fitness standards.

Some, including retired military leaders, aired concerns about the gathering publicly.

Ben Hodges, the former commanding general of U.S. Army Europe, posted to X, referencing when Adolf Hitler summoned German generals in 1935 to swear a "personal loyalty oath to the Führer." Hegseth wrote in reply, "Cool story, General."

One thing is for certain, several experts told USA TODAY: this could have been an email – or at the very least, a conference call.

"They could host a video teleconference and not have to cost taxpayers millions of dollars," said Virginia Burger, senior defense policy analyst at the Project on Government Oversight.

Congress encourages military units to go through the annual travel-dedicated funds it appropriates to them by the end of the fiscal year – which falls squarely on the day of the meeting, Sept. 30. The pots of money commanders will draw from to book their Quantico trips are likely running low.

Adding further confusion is the increasingly likely government shutdown. If commanders' aides haven't booked return flights, they could get stuck.

Some top generals, such as commanders of the 11 combatant commands, many of which are broadly dispersed geographically, are required to travel on official Defense Department VIP planes. But the majority who must fly will likely end up traveling by commercial flight, in economy seats.

Military leaders from far flung regions will stay in hotels around the area. Quantico has one dedicated on-base hotel, but it will likely fill up, as commanders with large entourages in tow take up multiple rooms, according to Burger.

"Assistance and security personnel have to get rooms near the commander. It might end up being five or 10 rooms for a senior commander," said Harrison.

On top of that, the leaders will require stipends for daily meals and incidentals. All told, it could add up to "millions of dollars," said Burger.

Critics have said that removing the nation's top military officials from the playing field was an inherently risky move.

"Gaps in command worldwide are potentially dangerous," Mark Cancian, a defense expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, wrote of the meeting. "Although there will be acting commanders still in place, the large number of absentees might open a vulnerability."

"Security at Quantico will be a nightmare," Cancian wrote.

Burger said there will likely be a traffic snarl for the ages on the interstate highway near Quantico, and around the small town that surrounds the base.

"If I worked at Quantico, I would work from home that day," she said.

It should come as no surprise that Hegseth is spending money like a drunken sailor.

by Anonymousreply 212September 30, 2025 11:03 AM

I have a friend who worked for the DoD in a civilian role. PhD, so lots of analysis, etc. Anyway, the day or two after Hegseth was sworn in, everyone had to gather so he could talk about Jesus.

She retired the following week.

This is so obscene on so many levels. Former Fox News babbler now in charge of the entire US military and telling them to marinate even more steeply in Grade A toxic masculinity and fuck protocol, fuck the norms. Trump (the Commander in Chief as well as President) totally endorsing it and doddering away, burbling his shitbag of MAGA extremism, obviously half senile.

by Anonymousreply 226September 30, 2025 1:43 PM

So the meeting is happening right now.

It started at 8 am.

I wonder if any of the generals will spill the dirt on what happened at the meeting?

Or will they all be tight-lipped?

One of them has to leak the info, right???

The meeting is being televised live, R227.

by Anonymousreply 228September 30, 2025 1:51 PM

If they violate the rules of enjagement they can be tried for war crimes. MAGA won't be in power forever and the next administration could go after them.

by Anonymousreply 229September 30, 2025 1:57 PM

R227, it's all coming out right now. It's being broadcast. The top military commanders are sitting in silence while Hegseth has demanded good grooming and Trump has praised himself and said we shouldn't be bound by the laws of war.

BITCH. DRUNK ASS BITCH.

by Anonymousreply 231September 30, 2025 2:03 PM

When push comes to shove, and Trump and Hegseth order the US military to attack American citizens when they are exercising their constitutional rights (and it will happen very, very soon), I really don't see any profiles in courage in the US military. The "brass" will do whatever these two dipshits order them to do, if only to preserve their pensions.

Hegseth has pronounced that the military will return to the “Highest Male Standard” whatever the fuck that mean.

Even women in the military apparently must be like men

by Anonymousreply 245September 30, 2025 6:29 PM

Isn't most combat these days fought with drones and tech? How does brute masculinity figure into that picture? It doesn't.

They are gearing up for a brute-force military to unleash it on Democratic and left-leaning cities. That's the whole plan, Trump basically laid it out today.

by Anonymousreply 246September 30, 2025 6:35 PM

Unfortunately R246, yours is an explanation that does make sense. Fat people and unfit people can manage and maintain equipment, drive it or steer it, fly drones and drop bombs. They aren't so good at using bodily force to frighten, confront, and beat up "the libs" in Chicago or Portland.

by Anonymousreply 247September 30, 2025 6:55 PM

Hegseth announced 10 new directives that would be implemented across the military, emphasizing physical fitness, grooming standards, and a merit-based promotion system. These directives include:

Physical Fitness and Grooming Standards: A return to "the highest male standard" for combat positions, with all service members, including generals, required to take a fitness test twice a year and meet height and weight requirements Hegseth explicitly criticized "fat troops" and "fat generals and admirals," calling it a "bad look". He also mandated stricter grooming standards, stating, "No more beards, long hair, superficial individual expression," unless for special forces He clarified that if new gender-neutral physical standards prevent women from qualifying for some combat jobs, "it is what it is," and that this is not about preventing women from serving but ensuring high, uniform standards . Elimination of "Woke" Policies: Hegseth declared an end to "politically correct" leadership, "identity months," DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) offices, and "gender delusions," stating, "We are done with that shit". He accused previous administrations of promoting leaders based on race, gender quotas, and "historic so-called firsts" rather than merit Overhaul of Internal Watchdogs: Hegseth announced an overhaul of the Defense Department's Inspector General and Equal Employment Opportunity programs, introducing a "no more walking on eggshells" policy. This includes ending frivolous, anonymous, or repeat complaints that he claimed were "weaponized and bastardized" to undercut commanders.

Loosening Disciplinary Rules: A review of definitions for "toxic leadership," "bullying," and "hazing" was ordered to empower leaders to enforce standards without fear of retribution. Hegseth also suggested allowing leaders with "forgivable, earnest or minor infractions" to not be permanently encumbered by them. He also indicated a return to more aggressive drill sergeant tactics, such as "shark attacks," to instill "healthy fear in recruits" . Rules of Engagement: Hegseth advocated for loosening rules of engagement, stating, "No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement," to "untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt and kill the enemies of our country" . Social Media Policies: New proactive social media policies were introduced, with Hegseth stating that "anonymous, online or keyboard complaining is not worthy of a warrior" and that unit-level social media pages trashing commanders would not be tolerated.

Both Hegseth and Trump promoted the new name, "Department of War," for the Pentagon, although this change has not been officially approved by Congress. Trump stated he "loves the name" and believes it will "stop wars".

Domestic Role of the Military

President Trump's remarks focused heavily on the military's role in domestic affairs, proposing the use of American cities as "training grounds" for the armed forces to "quell civil disturbances" and handle "the enemy within". He cited an executive order signed in August to train a quick reaction force for this purpose and mentioned deploying the National Guard to cities like Chicago and Portland, despite local objections. Trump also committed to spending $1 trillion on the military in 2026 and expanding the U.S. Navy.

by Anonymousreply 248September 30, 2025 7:07 PM

Reactions and Context

The meeting itself was unusual, with hundreds of generals and admirals summoned on short notice from around the world without initially being told the purpose. This led to speculation and criticism regarding its cost and the potential operational

impact of gathering so many senior commanders. Democratic lawmakers, such as Senator Jack Reed, criticized the meeting as an "expensive, dangerous dereliction of leadership" and expressed concern over Hegseth's ultimatum that officers who disagree with his vision should resign. Retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling called Trump's speech "somewhat shocking" and "filled with mistruths," particularly regarding claims about promotions based on "wokeness".

The meeting underscored the Trump administration's intent to significantly reshape the Pentagon's culture and priorities, aligning it with a more conservative and interventionist domestic agenda.

These morons think all these changes are driven by wokeness. Moar of them are driven by recruiting necessity. We don't necessarily need a military he can masturbate to.

Why? He has messed up some important shit. So it begs the question who is backing him and orchestrating his moves and pronouncements. He isn't coming up with this shit on his own. He has a sponsor and he is on a mission. We have no true investigative reporters who will dig up the true dirt on him.

R271 it's certainly true for Trump, but I'm inclined to agree with R269, dark forces and puppet masters. Ordinarily a person who was subject to as much exposure and controversy as Hegseth, a drunk, ordinarily would drop out before confirmation hearings. But he didn't. It was unprecedented. Then the fuck ups with Signal. Other things. And yet he hangs on. I don't think I have heard even one Senator call for a hearing or suggest he resigns. He is protected and he is in a key position. Secretary of Defense is not chopped liver. So it begs the question Who is protecting him. It's ultimately Russia who benefits but I think it's something else too. Trump was glad to get elected. It protects him from Prison. He gets perks and shows off and uses the power of the Presidency to take revenge. But the Project 2025 guys, Stephen Miller, and others are really running the show. Trump showing up for Hegseth's show with the generals is a big deal. It tells the Generals t hat Hegseth has the President's backing. This is a very dangerous time.

Agree with r284, Dump always wants to convey that HE is in charge. He couldn't let Kegseth preside over this unprecedented gathering as if he were the commander-in-chief. They are both civilian leaders with limited or no military experience. I can't imagine they were taken that seriously. Kegseth can say whatever he wants but he can't implement any cultural changes without the cooperation of military leadership.

Banning trans from military service was one thing, completely demoralizing the remaining troops will lead to disaster.

by Anonymousreply 287October 1, 2025 2:29 AM

Do people not get this? Trump was always going to be there because the purpose was always to declare that this is his personal army to be used entirely as he wants, very much including against other Americans entirely at his whim and discretion. He had to be there for that.

by Anonymousreply 288October 1, 2025 2:53 AM

R288, I agree. These military men didn’t have to applaud him or swear loyalty to him. Just showing up and sitting there was visual proof of their obedience. I don’t know why I expected anything from them. They seem well educated and well spoken, but as long as I’ve been alive they’ve been corrupt and incompetent. It doesn’t matter how much equipment we have or how much “brute force” we use or how many war crimes we commit. We don’t win because fight stupid wars we have no business fighting. The military is just another one of our allegedly fabulous institutions that is, in reality, bankrupt.

A post written by Deborah Cross from Canada on the White Rose Resistance Facebook page:

Donald Trump walked into Quantico Tuesday expecting a rally. He got a funeral.

The generals sat in perfect silence, faces locked in the kind of grim stillness that comes from years of watching idiots talk and choosing not to react. Trump, of course, couldn’t handle it. “I’ve never walked into a room so silent before,” he confessed, his voice trembling somewhere between wounded pride and panic. Then came the kicker: “If you want to applaud, you applaud.”

This wasn’t leadership. This was a washed-up Vegas act begging the crowd to clap. The Commander-in-Chief turned into the Clapper-in-Chief, reduced to prodding the nation’s top brass like a sad carnival barker who forgot his punchline.

A campaign rally in uniform.

Instead of strategy, Trump delivered his usual medley of grievances: Barack Obama ruined everything, Joe Biden ruined it twice as hard, and only Donald J. Trump, self-proclaimed “two-term, maybe three-term president” could save America. It was less a military briefing than an episode of The Apprentice: Pentagon Edition. The generals, trained to withstand battlefield chaos, sat stone-faced through the barrage of nonsense. They have endured artillery fire with more enthusiasm.

Enter Pete Hegseth, America’s Pastor-in-Arms. Trump’s “Secretary of War” took the podium with the intensity of a man who thinks Tom Clancy novels are actual military doctrine. He promised “fire and brimstone,” called for purges of “fat generals,” and announced he wants the next war to look exactly like the Gulf War, because apparently it’s still 1991 and CNN is running that same grainy footage of tanks in the desert. But Hegseth wasn’t done. He led them in prayer. Yes, prayer. The nation’s top generals, summoned by presidential ego, now folded into a forced altar call like extras at a megachurch revival. The separation of church and state? Obliterated. Constitution? Shredded. Jesus, apparently, is now Commander-in-Chief. Trump can play Vice.

Weakness on parade.

Trump likes to brag about firing generals who “aren’t warriors.” But on Tuesday, the real firing squad was silence. Not one clap. Not one cheer. Just the steady hum of contempt vibrating off the brass like feedback from a dead microphone. These men and women have seen actual combat. They’ve buried soldiers. They’ve lived with the weight of real command. And now they’re expected to cheer for a man who brags about moving “a submarine or two” like it’s a toy in a bathtub, or who lectures about “two N-words” as though nuclear strategy were a stand-up routine. No wonder they didn’t clap.

The pin-drop presidency.

What happened at Quantico wasn’t just awkward. It was diagnostic. Trump’s presidency is a hollow shell propped up by applause, and when the applause disappears, so does he.

And Hegseth? He’s the zealot-in-chief, delivering sermons about war and Christ in equal measure, a man confusing the Book of Revelation with the Pentagon’s operations manual. Together, they make quite the duo: one desperate for claps, the other desperate for amens. The generals gave them neither. Instead, they gave silence, the most cutting judgment of all."

Hegseth bitching about his concerns as a platoon infantry not allowed to kill enough women in front of our greatest military strategists. Wild. No wonder he's scared shitless all the time. Must have been weird running around like a maniac on stage pretending to be Patton, looking out at a sea of stone faces who all want you gone.

There's certainly a parallel with the Great Military Parade in June on Trump's birthday... a huge disappointment. They keep trying to invoke Great Dictator memes and look desperate and incompetent. The straggling mundane troops at the parade. The silent generals yesterday. Trump droning on with his usual routine in front of both... looking old and sad.

And if you listened to the President yesterday, he is unraveling. Seems older every week. Eyes squinting. Voice reedy. Sentences more incoherent.

Both Hegseth and Trump seemed comedic, weak. But make no mistake, preparing the military to attack "the enemy within" is very, very dangerous. And the current cohort of military leaders might reject non-constitutional orders, but the Project 2025 paybook is to identify those leaders who would not demonstrate absolute obedience to Great Leader. Yesterday was just one more step in that project.

Having said that: I do think the absurdity of Hegseth provides a pointed opportunity to weaken the delusional MAGA faithful. My brother, a wise, educated, kind and intelligent man.... a retired Marine officer, and retired police captain, and an evangelical and consistent "I'll hold my nose and vote for Trump" guy.... thinks that Hegseth is a joke and this gathering of officers is just a joke.

Light grows in the darkness....

There is something pathetic and scary about the way they are using this shell of a man, an obviously incoherent, physically failing, mentally deficient, disturbed, dementia riddled man, dressing him up, then trotting him out to babble, on this stage, while they run the Project 2025 playbook for all it's worth.

I repeat my concerns about Kegseth. When Trump announced his cabinet, even though they are terrible choices, we knew where they came from: Rubio, Kash Patel, Tulsi, Ratliffe, Pam Bondi, Noem, RFK, Jr. etc. But IMO Hegseth, a total loser, undistinguished weekend anchor on FOX, as Defense Secretary? That is a major cabinet position. I want to know how it came about. We do not know the story of Hegseth.

What kind of resources are available to investigate 800 generals/admirals located across the globe?

by Anonymousreply 321October 1, 2025 9:12 PM

a diverse group too. magats are seething.

by Anonymousreply 322October 1, 2025 9:22 PM

R321 One possibility: the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

by Anonymousreply 323October 1, 2025 9:50 PM

R321 - Of course they won't investigate 800 generals and admirals across the globe, but don't for a single moment think that Hegseth and Trump haven't compiled a list of people they consider suspect or insufficiently loyal. For example, they may be considered friends of Gens. Miley, Mattis, or Kelly or having been too loyal to Mark Esper or Lloyd Austin. They'll look for any flimsy pretext to get rid of them and install their own, hungry loyalists who'd never advance up the career ladder otherwise due to a limited skills or general competence.

And the increasingly manic, paranoid Hegseth has an appetite for witch hunts. Within weeks he fired people he had brought in who were friends and associates for years. He accused them of leaking. There's an Atlantic article covering it.

If they're lucky, they'll just get dismissed with pensions. Or at the worst, Hegseth will try to reverse engineer bogus charges as the DoJ has with Comey and Bolton and is attempting to do with Adam Schiff, Leticia James, and Lisa Cook.

It very intelligently and clearly explains why we are where we are and how rump has succeeded so far. It's eye-opening and enlightening.

So much damage has already been done. It's not over yet though, we all have to step up and do our part, however we can..

I'm not a military person, although my uncle was a highly ranked naval surgeon. But I found it extremely disturbing that Hegseth fired the top three JAGS in February. What do JAGS do? They "educate" the military leadership on the legality of actions by the military. If there are gray areas to the generals and other brass, the JAGS are there to clarify what the legal precedents are and the constitutional limitations of the military. There are other JAGS remaining. The question is, will they speak up, when Trump orders the military to fire upon US civilians willy-nilly?

What worries me is that these generals, and in fact most officers will understand their mission and uphold the Constitution. But the enlisted guys? My point is that I believe that the grunts are just as divided as the rest of the country.

DeSantis wasn't among the Top 3 JAGS by any stretch of the imagination. Compared to him, the top three are ethical lawyers, which is precisely why Trump fired them. Meatball Ron left of his own accord after an undistinguished career as a JAG.

He also had an undistinguished career prior to the Navy paying for law school. As a private girls' high school teacher who became cozy with students and did not receive an invitation to return. Prior to the end of the school year, the school issued a "reminder memo" of appropriate faculty student relations.

Yes, Fox News has been aired and still is, on some military bases, often through common area televisions and the American Forces Network (AFN), though policies vary by base and service branch. While some facilities have moved away from carrying news channels due to their perceived divisiveness, with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) in 2019 switching to sports channels, others still feature Fox News.

AAFES Policy Change: In 2019, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), which oversees retail services on bases, changed its policy to stop showing news channels due to their "divisive political nature," favoring sports programming instead, according to Military.com.

Varying Local Policies: Whether Fox News is displayed can depend on decisions made by specific base commanders or facilities, rather than a single, mandatory policy for all bases, notes The Atlantic. Controversy: Organizations like VoteVets have campaigned to have Fox News banned from bases, arguing that its content and hosts spread divisive "anti-military disinformation".

[quote] ICE is launching a nationwide operation today, Friday 10/3, reportedly named “Freaky Friday” that will target unaccompanied children aged 14 and older of all nationalities. Here is what we know:

[quote] 1. Children detained and released will be sent a “threat” letter from ICE threatening indefinite detention and immediate transfer to ICE upon age-out if they do not waive jurisdiction under the TVPRA and withdraw applications for relief, including withdrawing their request for admission with EOIR.

[quote] 2. Children will be offered $2,500 to return to their countries of origin.

[quote] 3. If children do not comply with the “offer”, the letter indicates their parents/family living in the US will be arrested.

[quote] 4. ICE plans to detain all age-outs, and they anticipate legal challenges.

[quote] 5. It is possible that the age threshold for this threat letter may be lowered to youth 10 years old and older.

[quote] 6. ICE will first target detained children but will also target children released from custody.

That is how I would interpret it, yes.

I'm personally not sure how many there ACTUALLY are. There are definitely some, but it was a big talking point on the Right during the Biden admin.

by Anonymousreply 360October 3, 2025 7:25 PM

I thought they (ICE) were supposed to go get all the immigrant criminals, first. Have they successfully completed this, now that they're running around after CHILDREN?

by Anonymousreply 361October 3, 2025 7:30 PM

R359, one of my great-grandfathers was tossed onto a ship and sent over to the U.S. when he was thirteen. He did not speak a word of English and, as far as I know, did not know anyone here. Why? It was that or continue to starve in war-torn Central Europe.

by Anonymousreply 362October 3, 2025 7:37 PM

There were about 100k unaccompanied minors each year of the Biden administration. International law, and general decency, requires that the government (CBP) takes the children into custody until HHS can find sponsors for the children. On their18th birthday, they are subjected to the full glory of our deportation machine.

To go after this population, trying to pit them against their parents and bribe them into leaving, is one of many new lows for Tom Homan, Stephen Miller, and Kristi Noem.

[quote] The reason Trump and Pete Hegseth gathered all those generals in one room was not just about a loyalty speech or a pep rally.

[quote] I’m hearing that the Trump team used artificial intelligence and facial-recognition technology during those briefings to monitor the generals’ reactions in real time.

[quote] Every eyebrow raise, every flicker of doubt, every moment of discomfort was scanned and analyzed by an algorithm designed to detect who would obey orders without question—and who might resist.

[quote] I’m also hearing from my sources that this isn’t limited to the generals. This same technology is being used as a tool inside Trump’s orbit — a quiet weapon of power, deployed by his loyalists to identify and weed out whistleblowers and anyone who isn’t completely obedient.

Couple of things to know. FACTS. The Biden administration deported more than 4.4 million immigrants. Obama 3. ? million. We never had this chaos then. So much of this is for putting on a show. They want us t o be afraid of them. Of their cruelty and their ruthlessness. Right now 80% of the people detained at immigration facilities, have absolutely no criminal record.

by Anonymousreply 382October 4, 2025 1:57 PM

Be careful about these conspiracy theories. It's part of their strategy to make themselves seem invincible and all knowing. But the mantra that was popularized during Watergate still holds today, nearly 50 years later. "These guys aren't very bright, and things got out of hand." If you step back and watch this shit show it is almost comically absurd except for the cruelty. They will do a lot of damage. But the worst thing that can happen is for us to feel helpless and afraid. Yes they're vengeful. They will do illegal things. They will abuse power. They will spy, and lie, and destroy. But don't give them more power than they have. Don't surrender in advance.

by Anonymousreply 383October 4, 2025 2:06 PM

Nixon was actually pretty bright. Just incredibly paranoid and cruel. I agree some of the folks he surrounded himself with weren't very smart tho. Of course, they're geniuses compared to this crew.

As for conspiracies, it depends. Some of the folks closest to Trump have literally publicly stated their desires/intentions with Project 2025 and other things. So many of those things are coming true it's hard to think that they aren't trying to do it all.

But it's true that not everything is part of a plan. A lot of this shit will just be comical evil shit for no reason other than being evil and cruel.

by Anonymousreply 384October 4, 2025 2:34 PM

R382 - The thing is that this administration is run completely by a bunch of cocaine-addled fucktards.
