He calls it "terrifying" and "dungeony" and "straight out of a horror movie," but I think it's beautiful.
The price is ridiculous, though.

Agree that this is a very nice apartment, very spacious for NYC and clean. It's not fully "basement" in that you have full length windows that look out over the stairwell and can clearly see sky through them.
But also agree the price is very high, both for the apartment and location.

That hallway gives "Silence of the Lambs" vibes.

$5400 month rent? No problem.
Get a roommate to pay half the rent and get daddy to pay the other half.

Yeah, I don't like basement apartments, but I don't find it creepy or dungeony. Maybe a little basement-y, as would be expected.
But it's pretty nice; nice reno of a basement.

R2 No it doesn't. It's a quaint little space presented by the worst salesman I have ever seen. The rent amount is stupid though.

It would flood
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 25, 2025 10:50 PM |
Do those basement apartments really flood?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 25, 2025 10:52 PM |
In a basement apartment, I'd be more concerned about dampness and mustiness, as well as the cold radiating upwards from the concrete floors underneath the floor coverings.

Obviously, R6 hasn't seen "Silence of the Lambs", or has completely forgot what Buffalo Bill's basement looks like.

When I listen to boys like him speak it makes me grateful I won’t likely live too much longer.
Was it so hard for him to find the correct spelling of Manhattan?
And what is “insanely unique” about those stone and brick walls?

Again. One day every basement will flood. Don't do it.
Subways have flooded. Your basement place will too, no matter how charming it may be.
One day, a hurricane downgraded to a tropical storm, one the sewer system can't handle, you will be flooded. The water will come up from your toilet. You won't be insured. Do not buy it. It has happened before.

$5400? In Flyoverstan City that gets you a gated neighborhood and an in ground pool.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 26, 2025 12:32 AM |
Look on Zillow for other 2 beds at that price - there are tons of decent places, with windows in every room. May not be the same dimensions - but who fucking cares?
Bugs, Damp, Cold, Flooding and No light. Seriously cockroaches are going to be a problem - and perhaps rats.
Humans NEED sunlight - so many studies have shown this.
Whoever rents this is an idiot. 2000 less - maybe not a bad deal for the area. But nobody is going to pay 5400 for that shit.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 26, 2025 12:34 AM |
It's a full brick basement on a Gramercy-area side street done over for living space. An apartment? No.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 26, 2025 12:37 AM |
R12 that is very sound advice.

Every apartment this guy shows, is so expensive.
Granted, this 2 bdrm is much nicer than the basement apartment, but it's still $5900 a month!!
And he wonders why no one is renting it.
Idiot.

He's mentally challenged and has a quite restricted vocabulary. What is it about so many young people that they are overwhelmed by the "spookiness" of quite ordinary things?
Audition tape for one of those ghost investigation series? ("I just felt a cold gush of air! Did you feel it, too?")

This 2 Bedroom apartment that he found is actually quite a good deal.
Only $2500 a month, and the inside looks really nice.
