Stunning Italian actress of the 60's. She was 87.
We played bocce ball just last week!

My grandmother called her CLOWDIA. She was from Scotland. (my grandmother not Ms Cardinale) (and she was short and stout and resented attractive women who ATE GARLIC!)

She had very beautiful eyes (Claudia, not R4's grandmother).

My partner's dad was a big fan of hers and frankly who could blame him. If I was into women I probably would have been as well. Besides the knockout figure, she had the sweetest smile and a fabulous mane of hair.

I liked her in the original The Pink Panther.

She has the expression, “Who farted?!”
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 23, 2025 11:03 PM |
Cardinale couldn’t speak English, so all of her dialog in The Pink Panther was dubbed by another actress.

A real natural beauty. rIP sweet lady

Claudia became a star in Italian language films, but she didn't speak Italian until she went into pictures. She was born in the then French protectorate of Tunisia and spoke French primarily, but also learned the Sicilian language of her parents, Francesco, born in Sicily, and Yolande, born in the Italian colony of Tripolitania in present day Libya.

R15 true......I couldn't understand a word she said in CIRCUS WORLD.....and later in DON'T MAKE WAVES.
The other night I started watching The Pink Panther and her English was great. I thought - something's up.....and yes IMDB tells me her lines were dubbed by Gale Garnett who later had a top ten song hit with "We'll Sing In The Sunshine."

Truly a wonderful actress who did not let her beauty hinder her as an artist. One of my favorite films is “Girl with a Suitcase” by Valerio Zurlini about a young starlet who infatuates a teenage Jacques Perrin.

Rock Hudson was supposed to star opposite Gina Lollobrigida in Blindfold but got stuck with Claudia who he considered a poor replacement. Unlike Gina who he adored . They did not get along off screen and had zero on screen chemistry.

As "The Adulteress" in Jesus of Nazareth. Cardinale conveyed a lot with almost no dialog.

I knew I had seen her in some biblical epic. 🤔

Did she eventually learn enough English so as not to be dubbed? Did she make many non-Italian films?
Sorry, never really followed her career much.......

by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 24, 2025 2:37 PM |
She was in "Once Upon a Time in the West" with Henry Fonda (playing a bad guy, great performance), Charles Bronson& Jason Robards Jr. It's a great western movie, directed by Sergio Leone

R42 strikes again! 🤦🏻♂️
R42 also attended a Charlie Kirk rally three weeks ago.
In late February of 2013, r42 purchased the complete DVD set of “One Day at a Time” to enjoy Bonnie Franklin’s magnum opus “while she’s still alive.”

R40, Claudia learned enough English to get by, but spoke with a heavy accent and ended up getting dubbed in practically all her English language films, including "Once Upon a Time kn the West."

by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 24, 2025 3:24 PM |
Claudia had a son, Patrizio (Patrick), born out of wedlock (some have reported that it was a rape), when she was 19 yrs old and just starting her career. This scandal would've have ended her career prospects, so she hid her pregnancy by moving to London "to learn English" and passed Patrizio off as her brother, until journalist Enzo Biagi uncovered the truth.

R13 She was very beautiful in that charming old film, The Pink Panther. And that cast overall was so engaging. They were also styled amazingly. That film is such a pleasure to watch, even if only for the performance of the song Meglio Stacera, and of course, Capucine (playing the beautiful scheming adulteress and thief).

At her most fabulous in Visconti's SANDRA (65), co-starring the equally beautiful Jean Sorel and Michael Craig. It's fantastic Eurotrash incest drama.

RIP Claudia. She was such a sweet and wholesome gal.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 24, 2025 6:49 PM |
R22, you are wrong when you imply that Claudia Cardinale and Rock Hudson didn’t get along, they became great friends, palled around together when they found themselves in the same city, and she was willing to casually beard for him when they were sometimes romantically linked for publicity purposes. She knew the score and liked him a lot. A real earth mother, that one.
And unforgettably beautiful in the unforgettably beautiful film of “The Leopard.” I was amused to read in her NY Times obituary that she was quoted as saying that “Leopard” director Luchino Visconti taught her how to be beautiful, presumably by getting her to slow down, exude confidence, allow herself to be quiet and serene, therefore suggesting mystery, something hidden, which Visconti considered the essence of feminine beauty and glamor. And it worked.

I thought she died five years ago. And then I remembered that since I'm a teeny weenie gayling I always got her mixed up with Marie Laforêt, but I didn't know why. Well, until today. Today that is. Because today, for the first time, I compared the way they used to look in their glorious years and I was like "they actually look a lot alike: brunettes olive skin,,striking green(ish) eyes, gorgeous faces, soft features. Then same age, more or less the same professional trajectory in the same years. Now I get it: I would get them all mixed up even p if they were my own daughters",
Well, except for one thing: the fact that Marie Laforêt had more the Ozempic version of Claudia Cardinal's face, years before Ozempic face became a thing. Anyway I liked them both and am/was saddened by their passing.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 24, 2025 10:33 PM |
R66, Marie Laforêt was scrawny compared to the voluptuous Cardinale. She also had a very successful career as a pop/rock/folk singer. Cardinale did not. I would have never confused the two, but that's just me, since I was dazzled by Cardinale since first seeing her in "The Pink Panther." I've only seen Laforêt in "Plein Soleil" and wasn't particularly impressed.
