Walt Disney Company: "Jimmy Kimmel Will Return To TV Tuesday (September 23)"

(per MSNBC)

SET YOUR DVRs

by Anonymousreply 1September 22, 2025 7:44 PM

Happy to hear this.

by Anonymousreply 2September 22, 2025 7:46 PM

The power of the people.

by Anonymousreply 3September 22, 2025 7:47 PM

Waiting to hear the full back story…

by Anonymousreply 4September 22, 2025 7:49 PM

Thrilled, but nervous.

Has SCOTUS today given this president the go-ahead to fire anyone he pleases?

by Anonymousreply 5September 22, 2025 7:49 PM

Exactly, R3, and good news after that hatefest masquerading as a memorial service yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 6September 22, 2025 7:52 PM

Don't be too sure yet. Or that the return ( if it happens) will be long lived.
Many have pointed out that the situation is less theoretical and more strategic. The administration, some believe, wanted a pretext for silencing a fierce critic. And Disney played along, for reasons unrelated to Kimmel. Now, with the pushback to the pushback happening, ABC is caught between a mousetrap and a hard place.
Michael McCarthy of FrontOfficeSports.com outlines the dilemma. Citing unnamed sources, McCarthy writes that Disney may have to choose between Kimmel and its tentative media partnership with the NFL. Last month, ESPN and the NFL announced a deal that, if/when finalized, would give ESPN control of assets including NFL Network while conveying 10 percent of ESPN’s equity to the league. And while the development carried the caveat that regulatory approval is required, both sides have conveyed confidence that it will happen. Presumably because both sides are committed to treading lightly and otherwise doing what needs to be done to curry sufficient favor.
It was never going to be an easy deal to manage. The administration had pre-existing issues with Disney and with the league. If Disney puts Kimmel back on the air, that could blow the whole thing up.

For once I agree with Cynthia Nixon.

by Anonymousreply 10September 22, 2025 8:01 PM

How much is ABC giving to Trump? There is always a shakedown, um, I mean "mutually beneficial transaction" at the center of every interaction between Trump and a corporation.

by Anonymousreply 11September 22, 2025 8:04 PM

The ratings for that show will be through the roof.

by Anonymousreply 12September 22, 2025 8:05 PM

I haven’t seen hysteria like this since George Floyd. Remember when they canceled the TV shows Cops and Pound Puppies? They had to wait a couple of years before they could reboot.

HAHA!

FUCK YOU TRUMP SUPPORTERS!

We fuckin' WIN!!

by Anonymousreply 15September 22, 2025 8:09 PM

Good news. Unless he starts talking like a MAGA

by Anonymousreply 16September 22, 2025 8:10 PM

Howard Stern's chiming-in could not have pleased The Mouse, either.

Does Stern still retain the vast audience he once had?

by Anonymousreply 17September 22, 2025 8:11 PM

R10 = Kim Cattrall.

by Anonymousreply 18September 22, 2025 8:13 PM

Jimmy should call in sick to Fuck with ABC. I would.

by Anonymousreply 19September 22, 2025 8:15 PM
Remember when they canceled the TV shows Cops and Pound Puppies?

"COPS" DEAD???!!!

by Anonymousreply 20September 22, 2025 8:15 PM

Good the guy didn’t even criticize Kirk from what I saw

by Anonymousreply 21September 22, 2025 8:21 PM

He didn’t. He criticized MAGA for exploiting the death and (arguably incorrectly) said the killer was one of theirs. I say arguably because he certainly comes from a MAGA family and community, but he does not appear to have cared about politics. Of course the MAGA’s will say a trans girlfriend makes him ours.

by Anonymousreply 22September 22, 2025 8:26 PM

What happens if Kimmel comes out and says he's retiring from the show due to censorship of his monologues?

by Anonymousreply 23September 22, 2025 8:31 PM
What happens if Kimmel comes out and says he's retiring from the show due to censorship of his monologues?

R.I.P. Mickey, et al.

WE WIN!!

BAWAHAHAHA!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25September 22, 2025 8:37 PM

Actually, what he said was that MAGA was desperately trying to prove that the killer was not one of theirs, which isn’t really the same as saying he was in fact, one of theirs.

by Anonymousreply 26September 22, 2025 8:39 PM

WE WON!

B in H, Charlie. B in H.

by Anonymousreply 27September 22, 2025 8:45 PM
The cancellations and bad press were killing them.

As were all of their affiliates aside from the two Christofascist ones that bitched: Nexstar & Sinclair. Those two fuckers are the only reason Kimmel was taken off, and I'm assuming Disney's learned from the gravity of its mistakes. Kimmel is literally ABC's most popular celebrity of all nowadays! (Including with non-asshole affiliates.)

Also, Paramount's the current sellout ho among studios: they licked Trump's boots 20 times straight to close their merger with nepo-baby-run, $cientology-enabling Skydance.

Plus Kimmel didn't do what he was accused of doing – MAGA was, in fact, furiously trying to distance itself from Tyler Robinson – though obviously MAGA hates to concede that point & are doing all they can to keep it shut down.

by Anonymousreply 28September 22, 2025 8:46 PM

How does it go?

"every dictator's worst fear is the uprising of their people"

or something like that ...

by Anonymousreply 29September 22, 2025 8:47 PM

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Finally!!!!!

They felt the price of the boycotting, 100% that Kimmel got canceled for SPEAKING THE TRUTH.

Even worse that the Orange clown himself had actually not made any real and explicit threat to ABC; they simply decided to silence Kimmel before MAGA even had the chance of complaining, this type of action only embolden deplorables to get crazier and crazier and the US to become more and more authoritarian.

The whole thing gets even worse when ABC executives apparently all agreed that J.Kimmel had actually said nothing wrong or too controversial, but were afraid of Trump’s regime anyway.

by Anonymousreply 30September 22, 2025 8:50 PM

R26, thank you. So many people seem to not understand what Kimmel actually said. He said that the "MAGA gang" was "desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them" and were trying to "score political points from it." What he said was actually true.

by Anonymousreply 31September 22, 2025 8:57 PM

In fairness, many here were doing the same as MAGA, desperate for evidence that he was not “one of ours” and even more that he was “one of theirs.” I was certainly hoping that would be the case, which made me susceptible to believing bad information.

by Anonymousreply 32September 22, 2025 8:58 PM

Yes but we weren’t in a position to do anything about it.

by Anonymousreply 33September 22, 2025 9:03 PM

People were falsely saying the show was cancelled (it was suspended) but no one who did that is going to admit they were wrong, as usual. We’ve seen clearly in the past that when Disney cancels someone, they state with no uncertainty that a person is cancelled, not suspended.

by Anonymousreply 34September 22, 2025 9:03 PM

I think people reasonably assumed “suspended” meant cancelled, especially with Colbert not coming back next year. I think Disney changed its mind.

by Anonymousreply 35September 22, 2025 9:05 PM

I hope Trump shit his pants when he was told. LOL

by Anonymousreply 36September 22, 2025 9:08 PM

The odds are pretty good, r36.

by Anonymousreply 37September 22, 2025 9:11 PM

The backlash, and the cancellations from subscribers, and the boycotts from celebrities must have been overwhelming.

by Anonymousreply 38September 22, 2025 9:12 PM

MAGA, showing once again they can twist anything in support of their cult leader is now claiming this as “proof” that Dump is not a fascist.

by Anonymousreply 39September 22, 2025 9:14 PM

Are we certain that both "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and its eponymous host will be on-air Tuesday night or is the "legalese fine print" misleading us into thinking that the man, himself, will be hosting the show?

by Anonymousreply 40September 22, 2025 9:15 PM

But before they were saying Trump had nothing to do with Disney’s decision. Typical.

by Anonymousreply 41September 22, 2025 9:16 PM

If Jimmy self censors what’s the point of coming back. I only watched for the Trump trashing.

by Anonymousreply 42September 22, 2025 9:18 PM
I'm assuming Disney's learned from the gravity of its mistakes.

LOL sure Jan. The same company that was busted a couple of years back for donating to anti-gay Republicans?

They didn't think the blowback would be so severe. They caved to Trump without much of a reason, or fight, and it backfired big time.

And fuck The View, BTW. Another groups of spineless cowards.

by Anonymousreply 43September 22, 2025 9:18 PM

R36-Trumps pants were already shitted…

by Anonymousreply 44September 22, 2025 9:19 PM

He will probably be very careful with his jokes now. He won't go all the way in like before this cancelation.

by Anonymousreply 45September 22, 2025 9:21 PM

I hope Kimmel is secretly negotiating to go elsewhere and can tell Disney to go fuck itself. However, I'm cynical enough to assume he's going to do some sort of apology monologue on his show Tuesday, which will be gross. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, though.

by Anonymousreply 46September 22, 2025 9:29 PM

Did Kimmel recapitulate? Wasn't that one of the terms for him coming back?

by Anonymousreply 47September 22, 2025 9:31 PM
If Jimmy self censors what’s the point of coming back. I only watched for the Trump trashing.

It’s going to be a strange situation. Assuming Kimmel continues doing what he was doing, it will be providing what the audience that left wanted. He may need to reorient to the audience that is still there (or even to attracting a new audience).

by Anonymousreply 48September 22, 2025 9:32 PM

Oh no.No apology unless he apologizes for No Apology to DUMP.

by Anonymousreply 49September 22, 2025 9:34 PM

Apparently the 4 Billion loss in stock value in one day seems to have gotten their attention. I read a bunch of naysayers on reedit who were saying that loss was only like 1% and basically just normal fluctuation and was just a "feel good" boycott. I wonder how they feel now?

Disney stock is down 3% after last Wednesday. However, it dipped 12.5% the month that live-action Snow White premiered. Do you really think Disney has learned the lesson they should about bad casting, bad movies because of that 12.5%?

by Anonymousreply 54September 22, 2025 9:52 PM

People were canceling their Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions.

by Anonymousreply 55September 22, 2025 10:07 PM

Maybe he meant re-copulate because I’d suck Jimmy off twice.

by Anonymousreply 60September 22, 2025 10:42 PM

The Trump autism press conference just provided a shit load of material for Kimmel. If he doesn't touch it, then chances are good he's been neutered.

by Anonymousreply 61September 22, 2025 10:47 PM

Of course this is good news but I don't believe the suspension was ever intended to be permanent.

It was the pound of flesh the right-wing corporations wanted to extract for Kirk's murder in order to appease their boss. I'm sure they knew there would be a backlash of subscriber cancellations.

So what follows is the touching spectacle of a well-attended memorial, a day of remembrance and the inevitable bad-faith statements from right-wing revenants that an FCC cancellation could have blowback on them (don't tell me this was a sudden insight). Kimmel is reinstated after thinking about the anguish he has caused and the importance of choosing your words carefully, or not at all.

I would not like to be Kimmel right now, trying to figure out how to play this dog and pony show for his audience. Suggestions welcome.

by Anonymousreply 62September 22, 2025 10:48 PM

And then 24 hours later, the next South Park episode will ... what WILL it be about?

by Anonymousreply 63September 22, 2025 10:55 PM

Marisa Kabas on BlueSky: "SCOOP — Part of the reason Disney/ABC may have rushed to sort things out with Kimmel is because tomorrow they have a planned price increase for Disney+ streaming, a Disney source tells me. With subscriptions hemorrhaging since last week, they couldn’t risk losing more users with this announcement."

by Anonymousreply 64September 22, 2025 10:58 PM

I hope Kimmel eviscerates Trump in his return to the show during his opening monologue.

by Anonymousreply 65September 22, 2025 10:59 PM
Part of the reason Disney/ABC may have rushed to sort things out with Kimmel is because tomorrow they have a planned price increase for Disney+ streaming

Always the fucking price increases from these streaming motherfuckers. I subscribe to nothing.

by Anonymousreply 66September 22, 2025 11:00 PM

ABC had ‘’thoughtful conversations with Kimmel’’ that sounds like no more jokes about the Convicted Felon President. Just stay cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 67September 22, 2025 11:07 PM

I don't know why so many of you queens think Kimmel has been neutered and will no longer speak against Dump. The "thoughtful conversations" is corporate speak to save face and not admit it lost $4 billion in revenue over this incredibly stupid act of theirs.

The ratings will indeed be through the roof tomorrow night.

by Anonymousreply 68September 22, 2025 11:17 PM

Kimmel or no Kimmel please keep up the pressure and the outrage on Nexstar and Sinclair. Call the affiliates and tell them you do not appreciate any attempts to censor free speech ammd that this is biggeer than Kimmel. ABC has shown its ass before. They bounced Terry Moran, too.

by Anonymousreply 69September 22, 2025 11:22 PM

I so hope he’s got some good zingers for Trump and MAGA tomorrow night.

by Anonymousreply 70September 22, 2025 11:30 PM

Sinclair says its affiliates won't be carrying his show.

Don't just boycott your local Sinclair channel; find out who's advertising on them and boycott them too.

by Anonymousreply 71September 22, 2025 11:32 PM

FUCK SINCLAIR.

by Anonymousreply 72September 22, 2025 11:42 PM

A lot of people are still sticking with the boycott. And rightly so especially if R64 is true.

by Anonymousreply 73September 22, 2025 11:44 PM

A quick look shows that the biggest ABC/Sinclair markets are Las Vegas, Washington DC and Pittsburgh.

I wonder if Disney will make the show available to other local stations in those markets.

by Anonymousreply 74September 22, 2025 11:48 PM

Now that that piece of shit’s memorial service is over we can all move on. The world is a better place without him.

by Anonymousreply 77September 22, 2025 11:58 PM

It's not just their stock, they did permanent damage to the Brand Identity. People canceling not just the streaming service, people were canceling trips to Disneyland, some canceling cruises, etc. It's a much wider threat than a momentary drop from a bad movie. That can bounce back over night. But loyal customers canceling their monthly payments to you and to your business is a who different thing.

I watch Kimmel on the West Coast every night shortly after it airs in the East. It's on YouTube for free, as is Colbert and The Daily Show.
It was the pound of flesh the right-wing corporations wanted to extract for Kirk's murder in order to appease their boss. I'm sure they knew there would be a backlash of subscriber cancellations.

Kimmel's ratings were mid and I don't think Disney had any idea that suspending Kimmel "indefinitely" would provoke immediate and palpable outrage. It assumed folks would quickly move on, it does not have an appetite for boycotts as it competes with Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Paramount and others for subscribers. Lesson taught and learned.

by Anonymousreply 84September 23, 2025 4:04 AM

R45, you’re a moron. Kimmel will go even HARDER against Trump and MAGA starting tomorrow night. The rumor is Gavin Newsom will be one of his first guests.

by Anonymousreply 85September 23, 2025 4:17 AM

R84, this is not over Trump's brand is revenge. The boycott and the pressure on Sinclair local affiliates ought to continue. Sinclair and Nexstar need to be crippled.

by Anonymousreply 86September 23, 2025 4:17 AM

R86 You're exactly right. To go with R82 's list of Sinclair stations, here are the properties owned by Nexstar. Take note, there are some national and major market properties, including:

[bold]Network:[/bold] The CW

[bold]Cable:[/bold] NewsNation, Cooking Channel, Food Network

[bold]Stations:[/bold] KTLA (LA), KRON (SF), WGN (Chicago), WPIX (NYC), WDVM (DC), KDVR (Denver)

Jimmy...hit fucking Trump with a lead two-by-four in your monologue and at every chance you get throughout the show and every night of the week.

by Anonymousreply 89September 23, 2025 4:35 AM

With some exceptions, affiliates are mostly in smaller markets, which often means conservative ones. Do you think ABC figured they aren't watching Kimmel anyway?

Affiliates are owned by networks and have contracts. ABC has some power here. I live in a "Sinclair" affiliate region and there's no way these old farts are up past ten.

by Anonymousreply 90September 23, 2025 4:48 AM

I'm hoping he's courageous enough to take this opportunity to SPEAK TRUTH to MAGA. and shame them.

by Anonymousreply 91September 23, 2025 5:22 AM

Mea culpa about Sinclair. My assumption was incorrect.

by Anonymousreply 92September 23, 2025 4:15 PM

Maybe one good thing to come of this is that more people are aware of Sinclair and that they're purveyors of reich wing propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 93September 23, 2025 4:29 PM

So no one was made to pay the bribe to Turning Point?

by Anonymousreply 94September 23, 2025 5:05 PM

Sinclair won’t broadcast. They have been consolidating power since the 80s

by Anonymousreply 95September 23, 2025 5:26 PM

Both Nexstar and Sinclair are spinning this as the affiliates are pushing back and will boycott Kimmel. But the truth is Nexstar is weak. I'm in GA. They have Augusta, Savannah and Columbus. And what they have besides CW is so random. one NBC affiliate, one CBS affiliate, one ABC affiliate. plus what I call junk networks.

by Anonymousreply 96September 23, 2025 5:28 PM

Does anyone know the guest lineup for tonight?

by Anonymousreply 97September 23, 2025 5:53 PM

Kamala is doing a book tour right now.

by Anonymousreply 98September 23, 2025 6:06 PM

Newsom is on Colbert tonight.

Kimmel is scheduled to have Glen Powell and Sarah McLachlan, so I'll be tuning out after the monologue.

r99, you're tuning out? Sarah McLachlan is a treasure!

by Anonymousreply 100September 23, 2025 7:46 PM

McLachlan should be interesting, since she just canceled a performance at the Lilith Fair documentary premiere this past weekend.

Wish Springsteen lived in L.A. He would've been a great guest, considering that today is his 76th birthday. (Happy Birthday, Boss!)

Agree r68. The fuckers thought the only people paying attention were the Trump Cult whores, and suddenly got their ass handed to them by their own viewers. I suspect Sinclair will fold before too long also, when it realizes that it's not enough to have Trump and the FCC smiling at their stupid asses. You need actual viewers watching actual shows or piss off.

by Anonymousreply 102September 23, 2025 8:01 PM

The Sinclair and Nexstar ad reps must be having kittens.

"I know Kimmel is popular, but you really need to be getting your message out at 11:45 with a 2022 rerun of Celebrity Family Feud ... "

by Anonymousreply 103September 23, 2025 8:09 PM
Sinclair and Nexstar need to be crippled.

They need to stop existing in their present form.

by Anonymousreply 104September 23, 2025 8:18 PM

As I look at what CBS did to Colbert and what ABC did to Kimmel, seems like there are some lessons on how not to fire someone. With CBS, they simply told Colbert once your contract expires we aren't gonna renew it. SBC suspended Kimmel. So IMO and I am not a lawyer, Kimmel has grounds to file a million lawsuits but Colbert is kind of fucked. CBS was shrewd buyt more lethal.

by Anonymousreply 105September 23, 2025 8:21 PM

As an advertiser I'd be damned pissed at airing during repeats of the likes of Big Bang Theory instead of a first run show.

by Anonymousreply 106September 23, 2025 8:22 PM
Here are the Sinclair stations where Kimmel will remain “pre-empted”.

This is where you play Bobby Kennedy (père), LBJ, Mayor Dailey and LaGuardia politics. Find out who owns or runs these station and blackmail them. Unfortunately, today's response will include a speech by a Congressperson no one has heard of, followed by an Aristocat postcard write-in campaign that will flop. In fact, it will fail so spectacularly that Sinclair will feel emboldened.

by Anonymousreply 107September 23, 2025 8:25 PM

Sinclair owns KTLA in Los Angeles, it's one of several local news channels. This now makes sense because whenever I go to YouTube to comment on local news, KTLA followers are about 75% pro MAGA based on the comments I read. Which is odd for a city like LA. The news itself does not seem that way. Now it makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 108September 23, 2025 9:13 PM

Sinclair does not own KTLA, Nextstar does.

by Anonymousreply 109September 23, 2025 9:32 PM

My bad r109, but my point still remains, KTLA has an unusually high percentage of MAGA viewers. But they don't come across as Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 110September 23, 2025 9:53 PM

Local TV Giants Boycott Jimmy Kimmel’s Return to Late Night

Together, the two TV station groups, Sinclair and Nexstar, control more than 20 percent of ABC’s local affiliates.

Those decisions set up a high-stakes impasse between Disney and the TV station groups that transmit its shows to millions of households across the United States. The threat of a sustained boycott — a rarity for local TV — puts stations at the center of a debate over free speech that has erupted in the days since Disney initially paused Mr. Kimmel’s show.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 111September 23, 2025 9:58 PM

Those two companies can stop their feet all they want it's not going to change the fact that Kimmel is back. Most of their millions of viewers are in red states or areas of red to begin with. Demanding that Kimmel pay money to Kirk's foundation and rich wife is outrageous! Not to mention blackmail.

by Anonymousreply 112September 23, 2025 10:05 PM

And I hope Kimmel laughs at them loudly about that tonight r112, and calls them out. Fuck the rules, cause clearly nobody on the other side gives a shit. Tell them to eat a big bag of dicks and fuck off, but you know, within very technical FCC guidelines. But do laugh and do treat them like shit and do not pretend to have any respect for them or their stupid nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 113September 23, 2025 10:09 PM

It's probably a higher percentage of MAGA voters who are too poor for cable and streaming and need to watch ABC on KTLA on antenna TV.

by Anonymousreply 114September 23, 2025 10:10 PM
need to watch ABC on KTLA on antenna TV.

KTLA is NOT the ABC station in LA. It's a CW station.

KABC is the ABC station in Los Angeles. It's one of the stations owned and operated by ABC/Disney.

Yup, r117, and in part because bitch will never say anything real about anything. And I don't just mean THAT. But really, when's the last time that fucking fraud has given an honest opinion about Trump or the whole Trump view of the world. Or anything else.

Her’s the threat R120 references:

Jimmy’s a great guy-have there been any reports of dick size or dic-pics?

by Anonymousreply 122September 24, 2025 3:25 AM
Trump just re-threatened abc for allowing Kimmel to come back.

Trump has gone completely around the bend and is full-out batshit crazy now. Whether its senile dementia or just progressive mental illness, who knows.

by Anonymousreply 123September 24, 2025 3:26 AM

Donald Trump is a very bad man.

by Anonymousreply 124September 24, 2025 3:27 AM

I was working at Disney today in Burbank, and the other crew were telling me that they were relieved that there weren't people demonstrating in front of the studio today, unlike yesterday. I'm going to have to stay up way past my bedtime to watch Jimmy.
I'm going to have to stay up way past my bedtime to watch Jimmy.

What time do you go to bed, R125?

by Anonymousreply 126September 24, 2025 3:30 AM

Who’s going to be on the first comeback episode?

by Anonymousreply 127September 24, 2025 3:31 AM

Lethargic, shlurring and overdone.

I worked in network affiliate relations many moons ago, and most of the workday was spent calling the affiliates and tracking which programs they were scheduling and, if not the network's, trying to persuade them to go with the network.

by Anonymousreply 130September 24, 2025 3:36 AM

JIMMY! JIMMY! JIMMy!

by Anonymousreply 131September 24, 2025 3:37 AM

Is anyone watching live?

by Anonymousreply 132September 24, 2025 3:38 AM

R132 yes and he has a touching monologue but nothing over the top. Lots of applause. Jimmy is making jokes out of it.

by Anonymousreply 133September 24, 2025 3:40 AM

Now he’s starting to tear up.

by Anonymousreply 134September 24, 2025 3:43 AM

California here-WHATS HAPPENING???

by Anonymousreply 135September 24, 2025 3:43 AM

Is there an east coast live feed anywhere?

by Anonymousreply 136September 24, 2025 3:45 AM

He’s roasting Brendan Carr and I love it.

by Anonymousreply 137September 24, 2025 3:45 AM

How do I watch on the west coast?

by Anonymousreply 138September 24, 2025 3:46 AM

Thank you for the update, R133.

It’s hitting home that I can’t just turn on the TV and see what others are seeing. I truly hope this wakes people up.

by Anonymousreply 139September 24, 2025 3:48 AM

The public has power so why is Trump still president?

by Anonymousreply 140September 24, 2025 3:48 AM

r136, it's showing at 11:35pm here in L.A.. I usually go to bed around 10 if I'm not working.

by Anonymousreply 145September 24, 2025 3:52 AM

Jimmy has so much class. He spoke from his heart. He was gracious not kicking sand in the faces of those who wronged him. He's always been a very decent guy. Trump wouldn't recognize decency in a million years. Trump is a fucking animal.

by Anonymousreply 146September 24, 2025 3:56 AM

It could be on you tube any time now.

by Anonymousreply 147September 24, 2025 3:57 AM

Robert DeNiro is playing Brendan Carr as a mafia boss.

by Anonymousreply 149September 24, 2025 4:00 AM

This is a huge loss for MAGA. They overreached. They tried to make Charlie Kirk's murder the impetus for a Reichstag fire moment to crush "the Left." The public wasn't having it. And now they lost.

I have very little hope these days, but this gives me hope.

I’m hoping the return of Jimmy Kimmel finally triggers the massive, debilitating stroke which many of us have been begging the karma gods to inflict on the Cheeto Mussolini for way too long.

by Anonymousreply 153September 24, 2025 4:11 AM

That was lovely-I need a tissue…

by Anonymousreply 154September 24, 2025 4:11 AM

I’ve loved it so far. He’s doing great. Go, Jimmy!

by Anonymousreply 155September 24, 2025 4:12 AM

It was NOTE PERFECT.

He said every single thing that needed to be said. He made Sinclair and Nexstar look petty and ridiculous.

And as I predicted, he reached back 65 years in broadcast history and used Jack Paar's line when he'd left the air for several days.

I loved it.

by Anonymousreply 156September 24, 2025 4:15 AM

R156 I missed that, or I didn't catch the reference to Paar. Can you tell me?

by Anonymousreply 157September 24, 2025 4:29 AM

It really was good - funny, humble and emotional. I loved his smile when he aired a clip of Trump dissing his show and saying something like, “he has no viewers” and Kimmel just said “I do now…”

by Anonymousreply 158September 24, 2025 4:31 AM

For R157:
In a very emotional monologue, Kimmel kicked off with a reference to Jack Paar when he quit and returned to The Tonight Show in 1960. “As I was saying before I was interrupted…,” he joked.

I loved the part at the end with the Robert De Niro Mafia bit. It would be cook if it became a running gag. De Niro has a good sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 160September 24, 2025 4:38 AM

^it would be COOL not cook.

by Anonymousreply 161September 24, 2025 4:39 AM

I woke up just before Kimmel's show started - the opening segment was nearly 20 minutes. It was GREAT - touching and funny with plenty of jabs at DUMP and Brenden Carr.

His ratings will be to the moon and beyond - this will be the talk of the day on Wednesday - DUMP will be pissed - in more ways than the usual one.

BTW - I live in Central VA - wasn't sure if local station would carry the show but they did.

Long Live Free Speech no matter the content.

by Anonymousreply 167September 24, 2025 4:47 AM

I loved the bit with De Niro as well. It never ceases to amaze me how funny he can be when giving a comedic performance given the fact he’s never displayed much of a sense of humor when doing interviews as himself. The man truly is a talent.

Well done, Jimmy Kimmel!

He was welcomed back with a three-minute standing ovation, and I'll bet many viewers at home joined in; I know I did.

Another, continuous dissimilarity between Jimmy Kimmel and Burnt Orange is how damned good Jimmy looks in a business suit! Impeccable tailoring. BO should take note.

by Anonymousreply 185September 24, 2025 7:26 PM

I sat next to a Kimmel writer at a bar who had had a few drinks. Apparently the staff loves him (his wife Molly is another story).

She made the point "Colbert is a theater kid, but Jimmy's more of a regular guy."

I agree, which makes his message even more effective.

by Anonymousreply 186September 24, 2025 7:28 PM

I know this isn't related to Jimmy's return but he (along with some others) came out with 'The Man Show' in 1999. That was a great show and the skits with fat kid selling beer on the street as well as hitting on women was a riot. I believe the kid was fed lines remotely which made the reactions more extreme since most kids wouldn't be that glib at such a young age.

For someone that was so creative back then and is still a top contributor of humorous takes on current events, he's a real class act and last nights monologue was proof of that.

by Anonymousreply 187September 24, 2025 8:15 PM

R186 I get the sense that Molly is the bad cop in the relationship.

by Anonymousreply 188September 24, 2025 8:21 PM

Why do all the staff love him? They don’t all love Fallon.

by Anonymousreply 189September 24, 2025 8:23 PM

Who is BO?

by Anonymousreply 190September 24, 2025 8:23 PM

Well, R189, they are different, so why wouldn't they like one and not the other? Besides which, Fallon is a complete suck-up.

by Anonymousreply 191September 24, 2025 8:26 PM

Isn’t it rare to love your boss so much? I would hate both.

by Anonymousreply 192September 24, 2025 8:27 PM

Burnt Orange, r190.

My fail.

by Anonymousreply 193September 24, 2025 8:33 PM

What I'm reading about Kimmel is how caring and generous and kind he is to his friends, his co-workers and colleagues, and to the people who work for him producing the show, etc. His staff are dedicated a loyal. he's just a really good person.

by Anonymousreply 194September 24, 2025 9:03 PM
His staff are dedicated a loyal.

The news report today is that his staff were going to abandon him and walk if he dared to apologize in any way for previous comments related to Charlie Kirk. Maybe that loyalty is conditional.

by Anonymousreply 195September 24, 2025 9:10 PM

That makes me like him even more. That means the people who work for him have a shred of ethics. Very rare in Hollywood. Most CEO's in that position would have said STFU or leave if you cant fallow orders. There are plenty of people who want your job.

by Anonymousreply 198September 24, 2025 9:24 PM

It was okay for Gutfeld to trash Jessica Tarlov and discount the murder of Rep. Melissa Horton because ‘’nobody knew who she was ‘’

by Anonymousreply 199September 25, 2025 12:51 AM
I get the sense that Molly is the bad cop in the relationship.

Could be. The staffer to whom I spoke said Molly would sit in on any meeting she liked and make suggestions. For a bit she talked Jimmy into letting her do on-air bits.

Holy crap. That was a couple of years ago and I just looked it up and found Molly is now co-head writer.
