Why do Polynesian guys wear fat so well?

I don’t get it. Other races look swollen and uggo when fat. But Polynesian dudes look cute and kind of natural when fat.

PLEASE EXPLAIN.

I wouldn't exactly say that guy is wearing it well.

by Anonymousreply 1September 20, 2025 3:50 PM

He's young and he's covered up. Put him in a bathing suit and you'll change your tune.

They are a large people - quite a lot of them in the NFL. Some of them do look great being big - but I think you're overgeneralizing.

by Anonymousreply 2September 20, 2025 3:51 PM

Some guys wear fat really well. It looks hot. Others just look fat. White fat guys with not much hair hard to pull off. I think it's what we perceive or associate with different cultures or races for better or for worse.

by Anonymousreply 3September 20, 2025 3:56 PM

If they seem to 'wear it well' and I kind of know what your saying, it might be because it's a different culture where fat shaming isn't a thing and fat people don't feel humiliated and self-conscious.

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2025 3:57 PM

*you're* I'm so ashamed.

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2025 3:57 PM

OP, fyi - you need an eye exam stat.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2025 3:59 PM

R4 - there's also a big line between fat and obese - OP's guy is morbidly obese.

I can't think of too many hot morbidly obese men. I've seen several guys online who look handsome - but you know they would be really hot if they lost the weight.

Young John Goodman for example - he was obese, but he was also a very handsome man (IMO) as you can see from his earlier commercials when he was thinner.

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2025 4:04 PM

Um… no, OP. Just… no.

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2025 4:07 PM

OP's example is way overweight, looks like it, is not healthy.

But in general, not this example, OP has a point. Here's my explanation: the weight is evenly/proportionately distributed, their bones are thick, the frame supports the extra weight, the brown/golden skin makes them look healthy.

Also, I need to stop logging in the DL and responding with intent and seriousness to absurd topics. The Internet broke me.

Don't stop. Your post is thoughtful. We need you here.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2025 4:49 PM

I can get behind the premise, but that sure isn’t the image I would choose to make the point.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2025 4:57 PM

Has anyone here ever had one? Uncircumcised and flabby? If they tried to sit on you would your bed break?

by Anonymousreply 12September 20, 2025 4:58 PM

OP, you know that's obesity, right?

by Anonymousreply 13September 20, 2025 5:03 PM

Is Keanu of this season's BB Polynesian ? He's fat - no doubt about it - but he also has some muscle (he supposed to be a personal trainer). He doesn't get fat in his face, but his torso, arms, legs and ass.

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2025 5:07 PM

I'm reminded of that sweet-voiced Hawiian singer, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, who didn't make it past 38, due to weight-related health issues. I don't think he wore fat well at all, and neither does the guy at OP's link.

by Anonymousreply 15September 20, 2025 5:55 PM

Because they want to spam your musubi, OP.

by Anonymousreply 16September 20, 2025 5:57 PM

Genetics.

by Anonymousreply 17September 20, 2025 5:58 PM

Because you're used to seeing them fat.

by Anonymousreply 18September 20, 2025 6:36 PM

I must say, in their 40+ years of publication, I don't think PLAYGIRL ever had a Polynesian model in their pages - despite some hunky handsome Hawaiian men that are out there in the world.

by Anonymousreply 19September 20, 2025 6:51 PM

It’s unhealthy and a net negative for societies.

And if you look at old-timey photos, the Polynesian men of yesteryear were way hotter than their obese contemporary counterparts.

R20 I went to Captain Cook's journals and other paintings from that era, and you're correct.

The native Polynesians who met Captain Cook's ship were all healthy and muscular.

200+ years later, they're all obese because of the introduction of an American diet.

R21 - it's more than that - many of those nations saw fat as being a sign of wealth and social status.

Can't blame it all on American imports. They don't get everything from the US.

by Anonymousreply 22September 20, 2025 7:32 PM

I'll never eat again.

by Anonymousreply 23September 20, 2025 7:37 PM

If you’re going to carry 40 or 50 extra pounds, looks-wise it helps to have broad shoulders and thick bones and solid, wide-set facial geometry. Most Polynesians and native Hawaiians have those features.

Beyond that, though… an extra 100 lbs is morbid obesity and never looks good.

by Anonymousreply 24September 20, 2025 8:02 PM

I'd go for a guy like this (one of the Tuilagi brothers).
