Woo wee the new Covid vaccine knocked the shit outta me!
And I'm only 45 and in good shape. Eldergays, make sure you have the next day free to recover. I slept for FOURTEEN hours and still feel achy and have a bad, lingering headache. But, I'd 100% go through the temporary discomfort to protect my health!
I got the Pfizer shot on Wednesday. I was shocked I was able to get it at CVS since I'm in God forsaken Florida and both Trump and Rhonda are doing everything in their power to make it harder for us to gain access. But, they didn't require a prescription, I just had to state what pre-existing condition I had, just like before.
But, I will say, in prior years, I had virtually no effect from the shot other than a mild headache that went away by the next morning. This time, it's hitting me a lot harder. I wonder if fat protects you? I've lost about 10% body fat in the past year.

I have a friend who swears by drinking 8 oz of water immediately after the shot. He's had no side effects. I will try it this Sat and report back.

I've noticed with both flu and covid shots that some years' formulas are rougher than others. Of course, each year includes the viruses they forecast are the most likely to be going around. So your reaction is just a sample of what you might have gone through if you'd gone unvaccinated and ran into one of those viruses in the wild.

The only time I DIDN’T have a reaction to the COVID vaccine was the year after I actually had Covid.

I got the Moderna yesterday (also in God-forsaken Florida). In previous years, I had always gotten Pfizer. I was fine till bedtime when I started to ache all over. I tossed and turned all night, and woke up still aching. But by late afternoon, I was pretty much back to normal.
Drinking water might not be a bad idea since being dehydrated can cause fatigue and headaches. Maybe the vaccine causes you to become dehydrated.

Would you, Ivan, would you really deal with the whole FOURTEEN hours.

Huh. I got the Covid shot on Tuesday and besides a slightly achy arm and a bit of fatigue, I've had diddly-squat for any residual after-effects.
I honestly didn't ask WHICH shot I got...it was whatever Kaiser just started giving out on Monday.
I got the 25/26 flu shot last Thursday and my arm was MUCH achier from that injection, but again - no real residual after-effects.
Also, I don't EVER drink enough water and am almost always at some level of dehydration, so my lack of after-effects from either shot wasn't because I was well-hydrated.

I got the Covid shot in one arm and the flu in the other. This is the first time neither kicked my ass. I’ve lost weight since my last shots so maybe that has something to do with it.

Got mine a week ago, no reaction at all

I took Moderna last Saturday. The fever and chills started about 6 hours later and lasted all night. I still have a weird residual cough that started that night

r8 - hm. Maybe that has something to do with it. I did lose 60 lbs since the beginning of the year.
I had the Pfizer vaccine.

I've had the Pfizer shot several times and it didn't affect me at all.

It doesn’t matter what brand shot you get, if you’re sensitive to the vaccine, you’ll get a reaction. Deal with it, it could be much worse.

Everybody’s immune system reacts differently.. I’m getting mine soon and taking a 12 hr antihistamine beforehand in case that helps.

Thanks for this, OP. I’m getting the flu and Covid shots next week. I’m going to do them on separate days & close to the weekend.

They said that older people tolerate the vaccine better because their immune system is slower.
NEWS! I'm 68 years old and have has bad reactions to the Covid vaccines, from two different drug companies. My immune system is average for my age, average when I was younger, average forever.

I got Moderna and had zero side effects this time. Person who got it with me felt it the next day.

I haven’t gotten my Covid yet, but yesterday I received the flu shot in on arm and the pneumonia vaccine in the other. The pneumonia hurts like hell, I had to blink away the tears! I know, MARY! I was up most of the night with chills and low grade fever, and my arm is so sore I can’t lift it or sleep on it.

I got the pneumonia shot 4 or 5 years ago. The injection area hurt for days. I got the flu shot a week ago and did not even feel the needle going in. I ached for ten minutes or so. It was so uneventful I forgot I had it until I saw the band-aid in the mirror hours later. I am currently killing time before going to get my Covid and a TDAP shot.

I got the Novavax one the last couple years, and the only issue was a moderately sore shoulder.

It helps to get these shots by a real RN, not some flunky at CVS.

R1 And anyone else who plans on getting the shot, Ive had almost every round of shot(s), first few really kicked my arse, migraine level headache and body ache. My aunt, (respiratory therapist) told me to drink as much fluid as I possibly could the day before each shot. Subsequently each 'booster ' and now new shots have been a breeze bc I have countered the fluid imbalance it causes. I also practice yoga, and doing so immediately after and a short evening practice with a lot of twists and spinal flexion/extension, really made a difference too, the only side effect Id experienced was soreness at the injection site.
The 10 yr pneumonia shot on the other hand...was like my arm was attacked by bees for a few days after the fact- it felt like an actual pellet gun shot and the arm was all swollen and inflamed for 3 days!

I got the flu and covid vaccines the same day last week, felt tired and run down the next day, then was fine the next. I would much, much rather deal with that than deal with either flu or covid. (I know I could still get them, but they won't be as bad.)

I had the Moderna vaccine a few weeks ago and only had slight soreness around the injection site. The Pfizer formulation has tended to make me feel very tired the next day, but not *bad* as if I'm ill, more just worn out. I can't recall ever having side effects from a flu vaccine or any other type of innoculation.

That’s exactly how I feel at the injection of the pneumonia vaccine—like it was attacked by bees, and the site is swollen, r23. I’ve never had much of a reaction from Covid or flu shot, but this is kicking my ass. My head hurts like I have a terrible hangover, I’m trying to compensate by drinking water and hot tea.

I'm always down a day after I get the COVID booster, so I always get it the day before I know I'll be free and without anything to do.
I got my booster on Monday, and I just laid around on the couch most of the day on Tuesday. I was more tired than anything, but I had a slight headache and mild body aches. By Wednesday, I was fine.
Totally worth it to feel a little shitty for a day in order to protect myself from feeling really shitty for a week or longer.

R26 Youre having a 'normal' reaction. One friend thought I had cellulitis in that area (thats their default malady), but that 10 yr bugger was the worst shot Ive ever had.
R30 I did get mine at my Dr's office, and they didn't tell me what to expect so when I called the following day I was informed it was a totally normal response. (Insert my Madeline Ashton moment!) But good luck!

R29 The thing about hydration, and easier recovery from the shot, is its all about prepping the day BEFORE. Seriously try doing some stretching afterward the injection, helps stimulate lymph productivity and just helps.

My partner had a sore arm for over a week after the Moderna jab, with redness and heat at the site. He's not usually so sensitive.

My Moderna shot a couple weeks ago, I was talking and I didn’t even realise he’d done it. Wish I’d thought to ask his name as I’m going for flu shot on Friday. This is at CVS.

I got the shingles vaccine in one arm and the pneumonia vaccine in the other on the same day and as a side sleeper I had a very uncomfortable week after.
I am finding it difficult to locate a pharmacy near me that has Novovax this year.

Foolishly, I got the COVID, flu and RSV shots at the same time a few days ago. It hit me hard. I suspect it was the RSV shots that did me in. Extremely sore joints, fatigue and a three day headache. Never again will I get multiple inoculations at the same time.
