Madonna returns to Warner Records with new dance album

Madonna will drop a new dance album in 2026 while rejoining Warner Records nearly two decades after she left the label. The seven-time Grammy winner began her career with Warner and spent 25 years with the label, according to a release from the singer and the record label.

"From being a struggling artist in New York City to signing a record deal to release just three singles it seemed at the time my world would never be the same again and in fact that couldn't have been truer," Madonna said in a statement included in a release reflecting on her early years with the label.

"I am happy to be reunited and look forward to the future, making music, doing the unexpected while perhaps provoking a few needed conversations," she continued.

The singer's new album, set to arrive in 2026, will mark her first studio album in seven years. She will team up with DJ Stuart Price for the project, according to the release.

Looks like she's doing Mae West there. How fitting.

Positioning this album as "Confessions 2," which she has done several times now on social media in the past few months, seems like a capitulation to pressure from the "fandom." I think a lot of artists fall victim to that now. If they don't, they seem to get punished for it with heavy online criticism or dismissal. A lot of the very vocal fan culture online is toxic and delusional at best. I'm not sure it's a great idea to feed that beast, which she seems to be doing here. The fandom, especially younger fans who weren't around for her 80s megahits, seem obsessed with the original Confessions On A Dancefloor album and revere it as her greatest work, which it isn't. It was a good album, but not among her best, in my opinion.

A dance album! Now that's something different for her and to get excited about.

by Anonymousreply 3September 18, 2025 9:10 PM

I'd be happy with a Confessions 2. It's at least more likely to be better than the shit she's released since the first Confessions.

by Anonymousreply 4September 18, 2025 9:13 PM

The Cher lower lip is coming on, with the weird bump at the bottom.

by Anonymousreply 5September 18, 2025 9:13 PM

I'll certainly buy it. Probably like it. And likely dance around my apartment in my underwear.

by Anonymousreply 6September 18, 2025 9:15 PM

R2 But that was what The Re-Invention Tour and first Confessions albums were about after “American Life” flopped so she’s been crowd pleasing for 20 years. Even working with fan favorite producers again the last decade.

by Anonymousreply 7September 18, 2025 9:15 PM

This is certain to make her popular with all the kids who go out dancing today!

by Anonymousreply 8September 18, 2025 9:19 PM

What's most interesting is that there's no mention of money in the article - how much are they paying her and what are the terms of the contract ? Years ago, that would be the lead-in for the first paragraph, especially when a popular artist would join a new label or return to an old one. Not this time. I'm going to take a wild guess it pales in comparison to those contracts of younger artists, such as Taylor Swift and Beyonce.

[quote]while perhaps provoking a few needed conversations," she continued.

We need to have a conversation about people who don’t know when to retire before they make complete embarrassments of themselves.

by Anonymousreply 10September 18, 2025 9:22 PM

R10 Are you talking to me ?

by Anonymousreply 11September 18, 2025 9:26 PM

So, Maverick Records went bankrupt? Why else would she move to Warner?

by Anonymousreply 12September 18, 2025 9:40 PM

[quote]Madonna will drop

Again?

by Anonymousreply 13September 18, 2025 9:43 PM

Madonna sold 100% of her interests in Maverick in 2004. She then went to Interscope Records, and left them in 2020. She's been without a label since. With her new Warner deal, they will own her whole catalog over the past 40+ years.

by Anonymousreply 14September 18, 2025 10:01 PM

She is going to get all her sales recertified. Watch some breathtaking numbers. A lot of her music hasn’t been certified since the 80s and 90s. Her numbers are going to be huge. CNN already verified through RIAA that she has sold 87 million albums in the USA (currently only certified at 65.5 million) which will put her #1 in the USA.

Whoever said her deal must pale in comparison to Taylor and Beyonce- AND? She’s 67! Also, I wouldn’t be so sure. Her back catalog is worth billions. She likely will allow Warner to profit off of it meaning she’ll finally allow her music to be played on shows and in movies which she currently severely restricts. Warner will also fix her streaming. She hasn’t had a true record company since 2007! She’ll be pushed on every playlist imaginable now and her streaming numbers will increase a lot. Just watch.

As a fan, Warner will absolutely buy a hit single or two and ensure the album is a hit. I can admit that. Nothing is organic anymore. This album will not be organically popular. She’s 67! But, Warner will do everything they can to make this a comeback because they see the Netflix biopic coming and interest in her will rise.

by Anonymousreply 15September 18, 2025 11:06 PM

I might sound crazy, but I still think she has one great album left in her.

by Anonymousreply 16September 18, 2025 11:18 PM

R5, those lumps can happen when the body tries tries to reject filler.

Hmmm. Streisand currently has 68.5 million albums certified in the USA, though other reports say 72 million. The last time her albums were certified was 11 years ago, in 2014, after the release of 'Partners'. If Warners re-certifies Madonna in the near future, there's probably a good chance Columbia will do the same for Streisand. It will be interesting to see where they land; I expect it to be close.

by Anonymousreply 21September 19, 2025 1:25 AM

R19 is next level yet old school DL brilliance. I gasped, R19. You win. Heart emoji.

by Anonymousreply 22September 19, 2025 1:32 AM

R21 Do you think Streisand has sold that much in 11 years? Madonna’s 87 million may be a bit low. She has so many songs that have multiple videos on fan accounts that WILL count but Warner Music has to combine THEN count them. Also, WM pulled ALL their artists off YouTube for a year in a dispute. When they ended the dispute they put their artists back on YT at ZERO views. Madonna’s videos has millions and millions of views wiped out. If they add those, too, she could easily be approaching 95+ million albums sold.

by Anonymousreply 23September 19, 2025 1:32 AM

It’s come out that she’s working with rapers and Latin artists again on this. Pass. She’s beyond over.

We’ll have a meaningful conversation about designer label cameltoe

by Anonymousreply 25September 19, 2025 1:38 AM

I saw a handful of these press photos today and they’re all giving Courtney Love.

by Anonymousreply 26September 19, 2025 1:39 AM

Confessions on a Dance Floor had one memorable track thanks to ABBA. People now know the ABBA song rather than hers thanks to Mama Mia. Her song was a rehash of 1989’s Love Song too. The album was a pile of fluff after the shitastic American Life album. 99.9% of the public couldn’t name more than one song off of Confessions on a Dance Floor. She’s again running back to the same tired producers: William Orbit with MDNA (bombed), Mirwais with Madame X (biggest bomb of her career), and now Stuart Price, a one-trick pony. Girl, hang it up already. It’s embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 27September 19, 2025 1:42 AM

R23 Well, Streisand had another massive #1 album a couple of years later with "Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway", which sold platinum upon release. She released five more albums after that, but they didn't fare as well upon release. Not sure how her back catalog has been selling.

by Anonymousreply 28September 19, 2025 1:42 AM

This is Warner Records, not Warner Bros. Records. Totally new people. This is a one-album deal. She sold Maverick in 2005 to them. She was really upset about it. They bought her out.

by Anonymousreply 29September 19, 2025 1:43 AM

She looks exactly like Amanda LePore now. Jesus Christ.

by Anonymousreply 30September 19, 2025 1:43 AM

Janbot working overtime. It won’t change a goddamn thing. Madonna will be recertified leaving all in her dust. Calling her names or dragging her won’t change this.

R30 Age does a number eventually on everyone. But when she looked great, she was Ms Charisma.

by Anonymousreply 33September 19, 2025 1:51 AM

R12, Maverick ceased to exist in 2009. Madonna surrendered control as chairman and CEO to Guy Oseary in 1998, then sold her shares in 2004 after a nasty lawsuit between Maverick and parent company Warner Music Group. That she's back with Warner Bros must mean that all is forgiven.

I’m a lifelong Madonna fan, I became obsessed age 12 when I saw the video for Open Your Heart. Her younger fans aren’t the only ones who think COADF is her best record.
