Is thrifting still worth it?

I used to be able to go to a thrift shop in a nice neighborhood and at least walk out with something- brooks brothers sweater, Gucci loafers, nice china, a great out of print book. Now every time I go its crap. On the thrift grift reddit they are literally selling garbage. Even Housing works has declined

It’s always crap. No one needs any more stuff, no matter how fashionable and cheap it may be in the thrift store

No it was wonderful @R1

I’ve seen that there’s still a big demand for previously used underwear.

Small town thrift stores have some great deals. I go to one near me, in a college town. Their store is filled with stuff the students cast off every semester. Like-new clothes and shoes, often current trend.

They aren't what they used to be. The thrift stores don't price things as cheaply as they used to and will sell the good stuff online or mark it high. And there's so much more bad stuff now because of TEMU, Shein, etc.

I remember there was a similar thread a few months back.....not saying you're duplicating it but just that you might be interested in reading it.

Mainly it was about how resellers have really ruined the thrifting experience, since they often swoop in, get the good things and then resell, leaving the casual thrifter empty handed.
