Spike Lee's JUNGLE FEVER (1991)

Saw it for the first time on TCM last night. What an amazing movie with a great cast including Halle Berry as a strung out junkie selling BJ's on the street for $3. Any other fans?

Meh.

Halle claimed that she didn’t bathe for two weeks in order to get into character.

The scene with Gator and his parents at the end is so gut wrenching, I can barely stand to watch it. This movie is one of the reasons we all know the name Spike Lee. It’s 34 years old and everything in there still resonates today.

I imagine there is a lot of great footage of NYC from 1991

Is this the one with Wesley Snipes and that terrible actress from The Hand that Rocks the Cradle?

Whenever I think about that movie, I first remember that hauntingly beautiful shot of the sunlight pouring through the cracks in the trap house roof. Brilliant work by the cinematographer.

I saw it on the big screen back in the day. I remember Debi Mazar's character fighting with her boyfriend in the car about music-she wanted to hear Madonna. That's kind of all I remember about it, actually.

I also saw it once in the theater 34 years ago and only remember thinking it was interesting that John Turturro seemed to be the only admirable character in the film and that maybe Spike Lee didn’t really understand his characters’ motivations.

I like the Stevie Wonder Title song
