I saw the original on Broadway. Bad show with Benjamin Walker who was sadly married to one of those hideous Gummer girls. I guess he thought it would help his career. Bad call on his part. Anyone know where he is now?

This is a musical? He aint singing.

Ben Walker hasn't worked on Broadway in six years.
Is he now a used car salesman like that other hot Broadway leading man who failed to launch? The guy in Saturday Night Fever.

I loved it on Broadway! And BW was extremely hot in his tighty-whities. He's on that Lord of the Rings show now

Benjamin Walker was hot in that movie you cannot buy or stream anywhere, The War Boys, with the hot and gay Brian J. Smith.

Edit: there's a low quality stream available on YouTube now. Better than nothing.

Saw the musical on Broadway. It was terrible. They've allegedly rewritten it, but the book writer is a total television hack, and the score sucks.
Also a stupid idea for a musical. No narrative drive forward. Only constant exposition of how trendy and terrible everyone is.

R9 ok you answered my question because I went to see the Broadway show a decade ago (2016 I think?) and it was TERRIBLE. The direction was bad, the writing was bad, the songs were awful, the acting ridiculous etc. it ended up closing early because it bombed.
I saw they were doing this and wondered if they decided to give that same show another go with a new actor almost a decade later in hopes Gen Z will like it or if they rewrote the entire show.

The 2016 show was terrible. And this doesn’t look better. People are only giving it attention because the guy is attractive in nothing but tighty whites
Here is the 2016 performance on Late Night

A breakdown of how badly the musical flopped back in 2016

How fat has composer Duncan Sheik gotten?
He was so cute once. It was a shock to see him doing press for American Psycho's original run looking like Bruce Vilanch's brunet brother.

Benjamin Walker was a much better Patrick than this new guy. The 2016 show was mostly shit with awful music and a ridiculous script but BW was good and looked like Bateman. He looked better than this dude. Good body but dorky face and looks Latino. Bateman would hate this guy.
The 2016 show bombed. Opened April 21 and closed June 5. It had a lot of humor though that at least made the awful script somewhat fun.

The original production in the West End starred Matt Smith, with Jonathon Bailey and Ben Aldridge.
Didn't see it, but I imagine that would have helped its chances. Its initial run sold out, anyway.

It did fine in the West End in 2013. The 2016 Broadway revival was a shitshow. Entertaining though. But just ridiculous.
I’m shocked they’re even trying to do it again but this is only a limited thing, from September 4 to September 14. Tomorrow is the final shows and it’s not even sold out. I checked last night and there were some $33 dollar tickets available for the 2pm show today.
A sign that your show is shit? Use footage of the lead almost naked to get attention and go viral. They can’t rely on any of the actual acting or musical numbers to do that. They need the lead to practically show his dick for any attention

R15 you’re an idiot. So the lead of American Psycho can’t look ethnic? Thats the beauty and magic of Broadway— colorblind casting unless it’s a historical figure. As long as the actor is good looking, in great shape with the aura of physicality and arrogance, anyone from any ethnic tribe could portray Bateman.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 13, 2025 2:30 PM |
September 2 to September 15.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 13, 2025 2:31 PM |
R18 no. He can’t look ethnic as Patrick Bateman being a white yuppie WASP in the 80s is very important to the character. His whiteness is the foundation of all his worth and being.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 13, 2025 2:32 PM |
R20 No it’s not. His greed and looks and sexual prowess is the foundation of all his worth.

I’ve seen the film. In a Broadway translation MUSICAL. Omg why am I arguing with an idiot. The film isn’t a musical. It’s dark satire/comedy but they don’t break out in song and dance. The realism is different. You’re an idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 13, 2025 2:35 PM |
R21 you clearly didn’t understand the book. Or haven’t read it.
His looks and wealth (not greed) are products of his whiteness. This was 80s NYC. Keep your 2025 mentality out of it. You were born in the 00s and it shows. Uneducated as hell.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 13, 2025 2:36 PM |
R23 I was born in 88. I haven’t read the book. I just don’t get how this musical has to be so strict to the source material. Race is not that big a deal in the film.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 13, 2025 2:41 PM |
R24 race is a massive deal in the book.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 13, 2025 2:49 PM |
R25 ok I’m sorry then. It seems played out differently in the film. All the most interesting characters are white. I wish I were white sometimes.
