‘Voices That Care’ (1991) didn’t have the cultural impact “We Are The World” did

Why do you think?

This was to show support to the troops during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and had so many stars.

Wow, there's some horrible lip synching there!

I remember the song but not the video at all.

Why did the soldiers need this?

Was this really a thing? Was this popular? I don't think I've ever heard of this and I was so snarky in my youth I know I would have ridiculed it endlessly. ("Oh, look at the star power: Victoria Principal and Adam Rich!") True, back then there were charity singles for everything but this seems especially obnoxious given the non-singers in attendance seemingly hyped up on cocaine aand aughing, having a grand old time while paying solemn respect to our troops. Sally FField shaking her head as she sings so we know she MEANS it. Peter Cetera as he transitions into Patricia. The "rap" from Will Smith to give the song street cred. This is craptastic at its crappiest.

Wow I barely recognize Celine.

Who knew Lindsay Wagner could sing?

I remember I bought the cassette single at the time but I doubt I've listened to the song in over 30 years. Normally I'm a sucker for David Foster/Peter Cetera schmaltz but this one isn't very memorable. Although it seems to be the direct inspiration for the SNL sketch Musicians for Free Range Chickens so something good came out of it.
