First of all, what happened to the gossip? When did it really start to change?

I've been coming to DL since the early 2000s---back when it was free. I maybe posted a handful of times until more recently. Even when I used to pop in around 2014-2015, it seemed substantively different. There were probably less women--- banal comments like "Fuck (insert celeb name)" used to be less typical, a moralistic tone less frequently adopted.

I don't mind the political stuff really (I'm a political creature myself---wasn't the case back when I first found DL), but I do think that it used to skew much towards legit gossip and the cerebral, paradoxically.

There's no gossip anymore because so many of the posters on the site who were in the entertainment industry are now retired. People will still occasionally tell stories about what they witnessed on the set of Magnum P.I. back in 1985, but there's no one around who can dish on what's happening now in Hollywood.

I grew up in LA and used to tell all sorts of celeb stories that I knew either through my own experiences or through friends/family. But it got exhausting being told I was a liar over and over. I quit doing it years ago except for the occasional story here and there.

I also think social media has made celeb gossip more ubiquitous.
